DIY 60 Site Aero Cloner - EZ Cloner Replication

thanx for the ideas on the cloner stealthsniper. here's the one that i just built. it's got 50 sites with store bought neoprene plugs @ $.35/ea. i wanted to cut them but couldn't find foam at the time, i have some now so i'll cut my own for pennies. i added a drain to mine cuz the tub has 12 gal's of water and i figgerd it would make my life easier(a good thing) heheh. i also put a gasket on the underside of the cover that was foam tape used to seal drafts around doors and windows. when i stuck it on i pur to the inside edge of the cover to try and keep the water away from the rim of the tub itself. the tub is 41 gal from kmart. it had wheels on it so i had to silicone the holes before doing any work on the tub. worked good w/no leaks on tub and cover.
used a becket pond pump i had laying around and pvc 1/2" pipe like in the start of the thread. the misters i got are adjustable so you can fine tune the spray on individual misters. seems to work good. it runs 24/7 and i filled it w/cuts two days ago so i'll keep ya updated on root progress. not tryin to show up anyone or hijack, just showin what i built from the info on this thread. again, many thanx stealthsniper and king ralph.

No Hijack whatsoever man, great job on your cloner. Very professional. This site is all about sharing information and showing your show, so bring it on!

Is the foam tape not going to get water logged? I'm thinking that if my lid lip is going to be leaking, I'll run a good bead of silicon all around the edge.

Thanks for sharing

Pipedream, that's an excellent idea, to drill some holes down to reduce pressure. It would help to aerate more. Thanks for that!

BunchOfPiranhas - I'd actually enjoy having mine in the bedroom, the pump is very quiet, and the sound of water running is nice.

Stay safe

EDIT/ SS, most of the foam sits inside the rim of the tub. it acts like more of a splash rail than a gasket. runnin three days with no leaks so far.

My pipe is only supported by the pump. There is no connection to the box (tub). The misters are screwed into holes that I have drilled and tapped. Although, tapping is not necessary.

Stealth - Lookin' mighty good. I'm in the process of doing the exact same project. Albeit in a different order. I've got my internals finished, but have yet to do the top. My issue is, that when the system is up and running, so much water is hitting the underside of the top, that its leaking out all around the edge. The big advantage to the Original EZ Clone is that the top sits inside instead of outside. Please keep us posted as to wether you have the same problem and if you come up with a solution. I'll do the same.

One more thing, don't forget to seal up the holes in the molded-in side handles from the inside.

The way I fixed that problem was..I purchased a second rubbermade tub that is slightly larger than the first one. That way when it leaks from the rim of the lid it just leaks into the larger container. I then driller a couple tiny holes in the bottom of the first rubbermaid (the insert) to allow the water that has dripped into the larger outside drip container to flow back into the first one... Sounds complicated but in reality its quite simple. If you got any questions feel free to ask.

Makes total sense. The only thing I'd be a little concerned about is water getting trapped in between the two tubs, and developing bacteria. Plus, this tub is the biggest I could find, the next move would be into the bathtub!!

I haven't had an opportunity to work on it, but I do need to get a crackin, it's time to cut clones this week.

Have an awesome day!

PS. Here's a baby cola shot, 3 week flowering Kush...

It's been about a week, the foam tape still holding out ok?
I'm still feeling more inclined to use a silicon bead along the edge, it seems a little more permanent.

Cheers man

Ok, it's been 7 days and most have roots so i'm repotting tonite. the foam tape worked good for the most part. one corner of the foam pulled off and leaked but it didn't wick thru the tape like i thought might happen. the foam tape i have says it's a closed cell foam so that probably helped. i now have some that is wider than the original so i'll reapply the wider one and see if it does any better(it'll have almost twice the sticking surface).
the one mj cutting i had in the tub hasn't rooted enuff to transplant yet. it was a cut from a flowerin plant so i'm thinkin it may need time to recover first. the next run will be with vegging cuts.
the reason it was filled with perennials is cuz i have a friend that works in a greenhouse and i need plants for my outdoor gardens. it's a new house that has no plants so i'm starting from scratch. i happen to be a grower of many types of plants. heheh
edit: as far as the leakin goes tho, i don't think i'd put these cloner tubs in a nice finished off area cuz you're gonna get water drips and leaks no matter what, so a concrete floor will definately be a better spot for it.

If you take foil tape and run a seal with that stuff around the edges of the container you can eliminate the leaking problem. You cant open the lid, so the only way to add water is through a hole where a plant site was. I'm having no problems yet, make sure you stick the foil tape onto a dry surface.

My only concern about sealing the top is that either small pockets of water will become trapped and create a breeding ground for bacteria and that it becomes very difficult to truely clean everything out between cycles.

bartender thats a great way to harbor the lost water but it doesnt solve the leaking problem really, also in my case i dont have much more space to work with. I think ill use your idea when I put the cloner back into my cabinet though, because that looks like a great way to make a drain setup for the leaking water, its like a little sump.

It doesnt solve it in the most traditional means but it gets rid of the real problem at hand which is water leaking onto your floor and you having to constantly refill the aerocloner. lol who knows maybe the drip action adds O2 to the water :p rofl

A'ight, so I finished it, and it's working like a charm!

I found this weather stripping called Climaloc Heavy Duty Water Proof Foam Tape Weatherstripping. I applied it all around, sealed up the handle holes, filled her up, and ran it for about 45 minutes with no leaks.

Here's a couple pics of it finished:

Now for the ultimate test, I'll be taking clones this weekend sometime... here's to roots in 5 days!!

Have an awesome easter weekend!

Looks awsome Dude. Congrats on finishing her up. Can't wait to see a post with some roots hanging. Did you cut off the bottom of the netpots, or leave them intact?

Thanks man, right back at yah!

I cut the the entire bottom off, so there will be nothing for the roots to get tangled in. The bottoms are so flimsy, it didn't affect the structural integrity of the top whatsoever. Depending on how the first run goes, I may end up gluing the netpots into the hole. When you open the lid past 90 degrees, some of them fall out, so I could see that becoming a bit of a PITA.

Have an awesome weekend

How did the repotting go? You are putting these into soil I presume? How did you go about transplanting from the cloner into soil? I haven't done this yet, and am curious as to your procedure and survival rate. I'm thinking that wetting the soil more then normal with b52 & voodoo when transplanting would probably help reduce some of the shock factor on the naked little roots. Maybe a little no damp around the stem?

Thanks for sharing your project.
