Designing a dual 150-watt CMH cab

Well today I finally got my clones planted. I am missing a few because only 27/36 or 75% rooted. The ones that didn't root were on the edges and not totally covered by the seedlings mat.

They will get 24 hours of 40W CFL until I see new growth. Then I will turn on the CMH 18/6 until they are 4-6 inches tall.

I've decided to flower out the moms on the other side as a comparison.

It begins! 75% is still a good success rate and at least you've identified the issue. I struggle to get 50% out of laziness and lack of talent haha. Nice to see some greenery poking it's head out of those pots regardless!

Have you flipped the mom's to 12/12 already?

So the girls were flipped to 12/12 and I started getting worried about the buds growing into the bulbs. I thought about using some hardware cloth around the bulb, but that didn't appeal to me. Then I remembered Marlo's vertical screens. I decided to shrink the design down to my 2 gallon fabric pots. Here is a single screen, made from 1/2" PVC. The holes in the screen are 2" for scale.

I have six plants in there, so I wanted to make sure they would fit. Here are all six in the cabinet. This may be easier all around than the 30 clones.

I plan to get them built this weekend, next round I will veg them in the screens then flip.

Got screens?

Got screens?

Got all six of the screens made. I didn't do a whole lot of training yet, but I will as they stretch. I think I'm going to like this setup.

Clones are right about where I want them, I flipped this side to 12/12. This side is on from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, the other side comes on from 10:00 PM to 10:00 AM. I think this side will go perpetual clones, three in and three out every week for variety. So far they have only been watered once.

The screens look awesome! This is going to throw another variable into the work vs yield debate. My money is on the screens yielding more than the clones and being a lot less work.

Bring on the stretch :)

I want to agree with you, but the lack of training will probably prevent me from out yielding the SOG. If I would have started with the screens, I think they would be close. This round my money is on the SOG. In the end I think I will run the SOG perpetual, three in and three out each week. Then on the other side, I will monocrop the screens with a longer veg time.

As far as work goes, last night I watered both sides. It took about 90 minutes to water the clones and about 45 to water the pots. That's time includes from the time I started mixing nutrients until they are put back. I water the SOG using a submersion technique I learned from DrBudGreengenes. I fill a pitcher with my water or nutrients and then put the pot with the plant in the pitcher. The plant will slowly sink and wick up the water. More water is usually added to the pitcher until the top soil is wet. Then I drain the water back into the pitcher, give a little squeeze, and put it back. Rinse, repeat.

:off2:
Last round with the Delicious Candy was one of my best grows yet, both in terms of quantity and quality. I followed the Canna grow schedule and I feel like I really dialed in my nutrients. I was listening to Hash Church 50-something and they were talking about flushing, or watering with just clear water, at the end of the cycle. Mel Frank, Todd Mccormick, and a couple of others were arguing that it is not necessary and is depriving the plant of nutrients it needs at the end. They continue to argue that flushing does nothing that a proper dry and cure won't do. So this time I'm going to continue to feed until chop and see how the quantity and quality compare.

TLDR, Puffing on some Delicious Candy now

What does canna have to say about flush?

If I remember right they suggest a 1 week or 5 day flush right?

Damn I can't wait to run that candy!

I'm using canna classic flores and was only planning on flushing for 1/52, if I use an organic veg fertilizer which releases over time or a flower nutrient heavy in nitrogen I usually do 2 weeks because the nitrogen seems to effect the burn most. Will be interesting to see how your smoke compares with no flush, if you're running a no/low-nitrogen nute in flower it makes sense!

Filling screens

Filling screens

Two weeks of 12/12. One more week, or until they stop stretching, then I'll clean up the back of the screens. They are about 2/3 of the screen now, so looks like my timing for the flip was good.

Sorry I missed this Dion, they actually show using Bio Boost up until harvest.

Clones are two weeks of 12/12. I tied them all to their stakes and watered with:

10 ml/gal Bio Vega
8 ml/gal Bio Boost
2 ml/gal Rhizotonic
5 ml/gal SM-90

The screens are filling out nicely at three weeks of 12/12. I trimmed up the back of the screens and am trying to clone some of stuff I cut at my brother's request. They were then watered with:

12 ml/gal Bio Flores
8 ml/gal Bio Boost
2 ml/gal Rhizotonic
5 ml/gal SM-90

Is the third section of the coliseum full of plants and removed for the pics? or are you only running two of the three sections?

Can't wait to see the cab in a another couple weeks when they really start budding!

The third section is mostly full (27/30) and is just removed for the pics. I plan to move this to perpetual and have started my clone factory back up.

I can't wait either. In another couple of weeks I may have to remove a couple for the screen pics too. This is my first time with the HID bulb, gotta say I like it so far!

Love how the cab is filling out dude, those screens are beautiful!

The low wattage CMH bulbs are gold for microgrows, I've just ordered a couple of 70w 6500k MH bulbs and plan to go all HID for my next round. Might try 4200k CMH for both veg and flower on the round after that.

Here is a different way to look at my screens. I take them out to water and trim them up. They are from left to right: Delicious Candy x3, Deadhead OG, Tahoe OG, OG Kush.

I'll have to get a picture like this for the clones next time I feed them. They are going nuts!

Sure demonstrates how space efficient the vertical design is, that's a lot of canopy for such a small space.

Now imagine I planned to run this way and trained hem properly. Look how much canopy the coliseum gives me!

As promised, here are all three sections of the coliseum. I accidentally left them without water for seven days instead of the normal five, but as you can see they perked right up. Now that they are three weeks flowering I did a nice trim. I cut a few suckeres that were too low and the bottom half of the fan leaves. They got pH 6.1 tap watering. They are a little bit taller than I would have liked, it is getting tricky to remove those that are taller than the top of the coliseum.

I think this round, the coliseum is going to yield more. I'm pretty excited to have more Delicious Candy in my jars.

Love the shots outside that cab! Really lets us see what all the plants look like, and they're looking great!

Can't wait to see how the screens and coliseum compare at the end.

I think the screens are going to need a rematch. I'm not too happy with themy right now.

So far they are about the same amount of work. I've started taking clones weekly and am going to start running the coliseum as a perpetual SOG, three in and three out each week. I like variety and miss running my PC (retired) that way.

Fantastic! Love the ingenuity in this grow.

Keep us posted on how things go!

Welcome, this project has been developed over many months. There are a few areas that need to be reworked, like the intake.

Awesome dude, you are doing some micro epicness! :) best of luck on this first run! Things are looking great!

Thanks I could never have done it without ICMAG.

And now for the bad news...

I have been sick and busy lately. I feel like these ladies look right now. I usually water every three or four days. Unfortunately I forgot to check on them for eight days
:wallbash:

Here they are after a couple of hours and three gallons of:
12 ml/gal Bio Flores
2 ml/gal Rhizotonic
8 ml/gal Bio Boost
5 ml/gal SM-90

I removed everything behind the screen or that was yellowing. It was quite a lot actually. They all perked back up except the OG Kush.
