Desert Southwest Growers Union

hola fellow desert dwellers.

i did a flouro grow in a spare bedroom in 1982. mesa was a lovely place in those days. i panicked after my gf showed two of her friends and cut them down when they were about 4 foot tall. lovely ladies but not very bright.

i just cut the last of my latest. apollo 11 (spice bros via a friend), bubble gum (serious) and a swiss bliss.

i have a 400 veg closet and a 1000 watt 5' x 5.5' flower closet. it's a lovely hobby eh? :)

i had a friend with a bomb shelter under his garage. what a great set up. he was about to do a large grow and was telling me about these new kinds of lights that you could grow with. i didn't know at the time but he was referring to the metal halides. someone ratted on him and the cops came BUT he hadn't set it up yet. so much for that idea! lol

the flower room needs a thorough cleaning. in veg i have a bunch of apollo 11 clones, a few bubble gum's, a few apollo 13s that i will breed with the apollo 11 and a swiss bliss.

i have a bunch of genetics. i need another large closet! :)

oh, are there any strains that will withstand the summer of the real hot desert? maybe with some shade cloth or something? i dunno. but if anyone knows any good hot weather strains let me know

hey blueberry. i read that post about using trash cans. it's a great idea. i'm not sure about in the desert though. i think it would get like 140 degrees in the can during the summer, at least down here it would.

i don't know of any good desert strains. do a search using the desert countries of the world and marijuana and see what pops up. i might just do it myself. "algeria +marijuana strains" :)

Het poker- Unfortunately I haven't gotten my hands on those beans yet. Go figure- issues of geting them from outside the bay/boutique! I'm not giving up, though, I'll get an order in soon, but I'm pretty flush with plants right now.

Welcome aboard, dezer and blueberry!

Fatboy- that's a nice op you've got going.

Sorry been away with a touch of the flu lately, but I'm feelin' better now!

Rock on desert weather!!

First time post from me in the great SW. Question for you low desert growers out there: any of you guys switch from running magnetic to electronic ballasts because of heat issues? I just switched from 2 400w mag to 2 electronic, and the heat difference in the room is noticable. I now have hopes for late spring - any of you guys run past June?

they are much lighter produce less heat and are less to operate, heck my ballast's stay in the closet on top shelf above the grow. even in the summer
memoryloss {urkel x strawberry desiel}

lavender

pollenated evenflow {abussive og x whitemustang}

i also dusted with male evenflow
sugar shack
lavender
memoryloss urkel pheno
GDP also 1 nug of GDP was hit with very little headhunter {SFV x whitemustang}. next flower run the above strains get hit with headhunter i have a clone of him in soil veggn now:)

Hey Ventricosa  - Yeah, I've got Lumatek 600s for the hot days. I built a room-within-a-room setup. I have a swamp cooler for the outside room that keeps temps pretty manageable, and A/C running in the inside room. It's a portable that doesn't quite do the job, so I hope to upgrade to a window unit before summer hits. In the heat I usually run dirt or E&F due to room temps (in the 80's) I should prolly check out CO2, but one step at a time.

Damn, Major!! That's a reeeeeally nice lab you've got there!

Last year was the first time I've run two 400s at the same time. I finished Spice Bros Black Widow right at the beginning of June in two DWC tubs using the Lucas plan. This year I'm trying some new things - Bubbleberry, and I'm running MH and am going to try a CO2Boost bucket in my closet this time.

Damn, grizz!!! I saw your thread but had no idea you were you. Waaay sorry to hear about your current situation, but hope you've got brighter skies coming sooner than later. Shiiiit!

Hey there rule! I've lurked in your grows before. Welcome to the southwest! The big trick for the indoor crowd around here, especially in the coming months, is keeping things cool. Good room design, ventilation, and running lights at night are the first rules out here. I'm sure you'll adjust. Drink lots of water in the summer! :D

Thanks ES.

I have already dealt with the heat and water issues. I need to boost my RH now. I just bought a humidifier, I hope that solves it.

I know this has been discussed in this thread many times but a 3 speed swamp cooler will do the job better and help the cooling in the hotter months.

sounds like your inside, so about anythig works fine, Mandala (sp) strains are all supposed to be great in high heat areas. If your a sativa lover they all do pretty well in heat outside but I would recomend some shade screen for those 120 degree days in phx.

what do you guys think about running a swamp cooler in the garage( insulated)
and then hooking up a line from the ac to cool the cabinet
the cooler already is hooked up and has been working for a couple of years
and the ac is behind the wall just on the other side and i can go throuh the attic
i was thinking about t5s also but i dont want to give up the hps
any help or direction or just a big west coast hello would be just great
peace
and others would say (fire in the bowl)
