sin city signing in
i was looking for something like this just didnt find it
thanks for all the info
i am running a 600hps and waiting for the heat to hit
what do you guys think about running a swamp cooler in the garage( insulated)
and then hooking up a line from the ac to cool the cabinet
the cooler already is hooked up and has been working for a couple of years
and the ac is behind the wall just on the other side and i can go throuh the attic
i was thinking about t5s also but i dont want to give up the hps
any help or direction or just a big west coast hello would be just great
peace
and others would say (fire in the bowl)
hey bro Im in sin city myself and had a set up like yours in my garage, the room was 5x10x8. I ran duct from my swamp right into the grow room and it worked great, grew all year around with no problems, every once in a while the temp got close to 90 but the plants loved the humidity, just make sure to run a carbon scrubber because with a swamp you have to exaust at least as much air as your pumping into the room

room in paradise...

room in paradise...

getting ready to get hot....the winters are perfect here..the summers suck..has anyone tried running a watercooled chiller?

Winston-All you need to do is post! Welcome aboard!

OldPath- Right on, welcome, too! Nice lookin' gear you've got!

scifreak- Welcome! A swamp cooler will help keep things tame, but if you're using HID lighting, you're gonna need some real deal AC. I've got a room-within-a-room setup. The outside space is swampcooled. It really helps keep humidity up! The inside room has a portable AC (which sucks, by the way) but this summer I'm going to install a window AC. Good luck. Oh, I know sin city pretty well. Good luck with your growing problem!

Hey dale! Sorry I missed your post. Yes, the heat is getting ready to rear it's head. I'm going to be using an aquarium chiller here pretty soon, is that what you're talking about?

no i am talking about the water cooled ac units..like the ones in a walk-in freezer only with water pumped through them instead of freon...i have seen several designs just dont know if it will do the job here...everyone i seen using them lived up north..

Here's some LUI from sin city grown outdoors a few years ago. The temps towards the end of July that year were 116 to 120 degrees f. Did really well tho. enjoy-

Last pics are trimmed harvest pics. Somewhere over a pound, don't remember exactly.

anyone else use dr.qs filthy rich?? its ok substrate, but i think its infested with nats/whiteflies...i have used it a few times, with mixed results... i prefer pro-mix but there is only one source in the whole valley..and their seasonal..

Wow batman how much water did you give those ladies everyday ? I lived somewhere once that hit around the 100-105 temps and I just turned on the hose for a slow trickle. But I had a good mix of top soil vs. sand so drainage was great and it was on a river delta so it had natural crushed shells in the sand for PH control.

5 minutes in the morning, mid-day and afternoon every other day. Soil was heavily dug out and replace with bags and bags of foxfarm OF and mulched. Of course, there was tons of desert soil under that that drained well. Pure Blend pro was used as well as AN's heavy harvest.

Wowowow! I've neverf grown in the heat except in containers. Even my 'maters start lookin' scraggly by June. Did you use shadecloth or anything? That's an impressive plant, resinryder!

Oh hey res at those temps how was the smell ? Did they smell more because of higher resin production to help product the plant or less because the oil dried out faster ?

No shade cloth. That wall got full sun form about 3:00 until dark. That helped it come together in my opinion. Tomatoe's are another story here. Gets so damn hot they won't set fruit. They do get scraggly looking don't they. All the vines you want but little fruit and whats there gets cracked. Ain't giving up on em just yet tho. I'm gonna start some heirlooms tomorrow so i can hopefully get in a harvest before it gets so hot.

Yeah, heatwaves, early girls, and all the cherry/grape do well in my yard. But come June/July...blechhh. If I manage to keep 'em alive, I get tons of fruit in September/October and on until it gets too cold. Got my early girls in a couple weeks already. 2 of them have set fruit already!

I put some shade cloth on my patio cover late last year. I may do an experiment as I get late morning to late afternoon direct sun in my back yard, with a timer for my misting system. See what grows right outside the door...?

Good luck with the heirlooms! Post some pics in here when things get interesting!

well Eat S I will have disagree about the ac. I had 1 1000 w and 4 400 w in my 5x 10 room , uninsulated and the swamper did it all. I know we had at least two months at 105 to 115 last summer and I grew all year. Like I said the trick is to exaust as much air as possible. All I did was run that flex duct right from the cooler outlet stright into room, one 8 inch and two 6 inch. The cooler is a 4500 cfm. what dident go into grow room cooled the house up untill July.

Right on, man. I've only got the shop-size cooler. It works for my room in general, but it can't keep up with the hi-power lights. Plus, I don't have that big enough capability to do that volume of exhaust without raising an eyebrow with anyone in the 'hood, so I gotta run AC and stealth-exhaust that. You know how they build suburban properties in the SW- you can share toilet paper with 3 neighbors!!

Glad it'll work, though. Power rates have a nasty habit of NOT going down or even staying constant here from season to season. Damn!

i here you about the neighbors. What I did was run a 8 in. vortex up into my attic of course with a carbon filter on it and it works great, but the humidity does shorten the life of the filter. Theres a new type swamp cooler out that really looks like it might be great for growers. you guys can check them out at www.bonaire-usa.com I have the weac628 model,

bahh! Now you're talking 2 different problems I have :) My cooler on the 1st floor, whick I run with for better or worse, and my 2nd floor, whick gets the testers, bastards, AND access to the attic vents- but NO water supply for a cooler... :(

Next house I buy will be a ranch!!! Live and learn!

resinryder i grow tomatoes in the summer and a trick to try is hay on the ground
it keeps moisture in the ground and keeps the rays from bouning off the ground on your plants witch you are probably getting from yor wall
good thing is that if you start early(now) you can beat the heat and get a harvest in before summer really hits thats my two cents

bro I don't understand? can't you run a 1/8 copper or plastic line to supply any swamper from down stairs?

josey i think you have to worry about pushing water upstair witch would probably need a pump of some sort i dont think a hose comming down from the roof is bad and the pvc is a great idea but i dont think we have enough pressure to push water to the second level
i could be wrong:)
