Deep Stoner Thoughts

After a few shots of .45/70 500 grain I don't know what kind of tickle that round would induce.

What are you shooting at 300 yards??!!

I have shot a quarter at 300 yds, prone with a bipod. Takes practice, a good rifle with good glass, and a custom load worked up for that combo. That was .308 FN A1, with target glass.

A lot more fun shooting a single shot Rossi with a .22 barrel, and a scope. Snakes and turtles in the pond. Gives them a chance.

just target shooting.

450 Bushmaster is sort of like 45-70.

if I shoot 450 BM again, I would like to try the rifle powders.

I'm not comfortable detonating 2.4 grams of Nitroglycerin 3 inches from my face, which is what some of the magnum handgun powders are - that are normally recommended for 450 BM.

I've experimented with 2.7 grams of "Lil Gun", and it shoots near identical to 5 grams of magnum rifle powder - on 338 Win Mag rifle.

so 2.4 grams on an AR15 - too much of a good thing.

back when i was a younger mouse, i had an enlightening experience while under the influence of holy smoke...i had a REALIZATION that all life depends on the sun. Of course, i had already known that, but it was somehow new and more important, the most important thing in the universe. I actually FELT the importance. Next day, getting to work was more important and the impressiveness of the previous night's was rather humerous. After fully grocking the matter, i've realized that it was what we can call an 'attainment' of 'enlightenment'. One cannot be 'enlightened' at all times, but once we have attained that moment, it is an experience that cannot be taken away.

okay, maybe i didn't grock it fully, yet.

do the math

and calculate how many times the molecules of water in your body

were once water in some animal's urine.

though actually, we have a new source of water -
the burning of hydrocarbons.

so those water molecules may not have had time to go through nature's cycles.

Those water molecules were O2 and H2 before that. The cool thing about matter is it does not go away, just changes around, seeking the lowest form of energy, like BBs settled down in a jar.

Any element with an atomic number higher than Iron, was formed in a super nova or other huge cosmic event. Just the concept of space is overwhelming to me.

what happens in a black hole ?

when all those atoms are jammed together into a "singularity"

whatever that means.

a fine question
no one knows for sure, complete annihilation is one possibility

well we know some things for sure -

it's in a state of equilibrium - by a definition of equilibrium that may take 1000's of years for us to understand.

convervation of energy & matter applies - until it doesn't.

does the black hole ever REALLY create new matter - or is it always spitting out old atoms that got sucked into it ?

i wouldn't be surprised if we eventually find a way to harvest energy from a black hole.

"black hole" ... that reminds me of the space between Trump's ear - I must have TDS ! ! ! :friends:

the current state of understanding is that a black hole radiates Hawking radiation
this cannot be tested currently, the amount of radiation is small
quite a long time before it can be tested

I read somewhere yesterday that a black hole has been observed that changed entirely, gravity stopped for a while, and it has been firing back up again. That is about all I understood about the thing. So far away, and they can tell that?

https://www.zerohedge.com/technolog...-hole-glitched-inexplicably-turning-and-again

About 100 million light-years away, the super hot, ultrabright corona at the center of a supermassive black hole (1ES 1927+654) abruptly disappeared and then reformed, essentially turning the black hole off and then starting up again, as though it had glitched. It is the first time such a phenomenon has ever been documented.

this stuff is as cosmic as it gets
from what i read, some other massive object may have been in the area
what winked off was the corona around the black hole, that is what's visible is light from the corona
the black hole is not visible, just its effects

Is a black hole black or is it so gravitationally dense that color does not escape it?
gravitationally dense so no light escapes it, color doesn't escape it is pretty much saying the same thing
i'll admit to being fascinated with black holes, just at a distance

have read that radiation/radio waves have been detected escaping from one being watched. i think it is the ultimate recycling machine. sucks in planets, stars etc, which travels through wormholes after being "singularized" (is that a word, or did i invent it?), and shoots the material out as new stars being born in a nebula. those new stars are not being formed "poof!" out of nothing, the gases etc that are their make-up are coming from SOMEWHERE...:shucks: cool stuff, at a distance like you say.:good:
