. But on a higher note my buddy gifted me an old seed stash from his partner who grows. A few packs were labeled. One was thai, Skunk #1 and lastly Skunk #2! I was super stoaked because everything i read said Skunk #2 is the Roadkill everybody is drooling over.!

Apparently Skunk #3 is the roadkill .... Well that's what SamS told Reeferman

This is what Reeferman has to say on this subject:

Quote:
The seeds I use for the mazar came from a friend of Sams who has maintained them since the early days in holland , Sam did not directly give me the genetics as I stated they came from skunkmans seed line , I have grown many many of the different variations and have smoked the kush from the famous clone these are the closest to the origional line avalable and I was told clearly that this line has not been comercially exploited .
As far as the skunk #3 sam told me to locate skunk #3 as it was the road kill pheno(to get the road kill odor we obtained it from 3 sources and bred it to purple skunk to make double skunk) , he did not directly give me the genetics I was very fortunate to have a friend who worked with sam since the very begining I was able to obtain a number of the early strains that had been maintained for years .
In my 2 years in Holland I went about picking the brain of the great pioneers and collecting everything that was recomended the irony was that it was not in holland where many of the great varieties ended up being .
I assure everyone that if they grow my mazr offering next to any of the versions mentioned they will be vastly different and superior .
I have nothing but the highest respect for skunkman and his work I am sure he knows exactly how I obtained these strains and from whom.
I am sorry if this causes any troubles I am simply trying to give credit where credit is due on the origens of these genetics unlike others who would just change the name .
I have never said the african black was from Sam I have had that strain for many years prior to meeting sam .
I have simply tried to be acurate and honest about the origen of my genetics I do travel around the world collecting authentic landraces , the only outside source I have used is skunkmans becouse I have no dought about there origens .

I seen Riot on IG sellin his new afghani skunk line, saying there was never rks in the skunk line and that basically Sam is fulloshit. Guess if he didn't find it then it don't exist.

Harvested my first run with the Skunk 91 and got some F2s already. Looking forward to a week or so from now when I can trim them up and get them in jars to see what they start smelling like.

If a skunk sprayed you.

You wouldn't have to go into a jar to find out what you smelled like.

Im betting on those F2's, whodat... A lot of ppl think the skunk terps are recessive, and I think you'll find it in those gen (with sufficient numbers)... :)

Keep us apprised, please!

If skunk terps are recessive why do so many varieties smell of skunk? Or are you referring to those responsible for the extremes? It may be more of a case of dilution and/or it is governed by quantitative trait loci.

Sorry, I was referring to pure skunk, no overtones of this, undertones of that... Pure slap you in the face skunk spray. Or what alot of people would refer to as "Roadkill Skunk". I also have to confess my ignorance to your post, as I had to look up Quantitative trait locus, and the short bit I read, Id agree with you, but, I was referring to the most simplistic "F2's = more variation" factor.

I’ve grown many skunk varieties. One skunk/haze phenotype I had just reeked skunk. Wasn’t roadkill but damn close. Whether thiols were present I don’t know.

It still amazes me the infatuation with the skunk. The aroma of it in cannabis is in itself somewhat intoxicating. I’ve had some stinkers that weren’t that potent but people’s eyes lit up when I opened the jars. I’ve always wondered if the skunks of old (or the RKS) just had all the boxes ticked as far as potency and skunk aroma and the skunk stench became associated with potency.

Still, I encourage the endeavor with the search. I wish I would have kept that skunk/haze, she was potent as hell but some of that could have been coming from the haze side.

That's interesting. It's a weird thing. I agree that the stank is intoxicating, but so is Sour Dubb. What makes RKS so special to me is that it was the first kind of bud that I could hold to a standard.

Before skunk weed I was never disappointed. I couldn't be because I had no idea what to expect. It was rarely the same for long and asking what it was called or where it came from had never occurred to me. When I'd meet my guy I expected to buy weed. I hoped he weighed it a little heavy, I hoped it was green and I hoped it was good, but so long as it was weed and it weighed....I had nothing to complain about.. If it wasn't green or good I didn't get bummed, I just hoped it was better the next time.

It REALLY was what it was! For me anyway.

From the very first time I smelled skunk weed I knew what I expectected skunk weed to be. I expected it to OUTRAGEOUSLY stink like a skunk.

The looks, taste and potency are harder for me to remember, other than it was green, tasted awesome and put me on heroin everytime!

I grew some bagseed that stunk way back when but it was usually a low yielding afghani looking wld plant that was real leafy. If I squint real hard...... I can kinda remember those first skunk weed bags being a hybrid.

Anyway.... that's why it's something I'd like to smoke again.

Regarding my getting them in the jars comment I meant that I wanted to get the concentrated, trimmed bud, curing smell of the flowers. I literally shove as much of my face into a wide mouth quart mason jar when smelling weed to put things into perspective. I've noticed too that the smell from any kind of weed definitely matures and changes while jar curing. I'm looking forward to those smells, whatever they may be

Was two strains in So-Cal 10 years back....one was called Glaucoma the other was called Emphysema u could smell an 8th from outside the house...would wash my face and the soap would reek like skunk....grower was a hoarder and ended up moving to Alabama of all places and im pretty sure the genes left with him....only legit strain names ive herd for the real deal RKS line...if u can find these strains u got the real deal (names r impossible to search for online , the emph cut still circles OC/Long Beach area if that helps..)

I'm hoping to find it in the F2s, that's where Bodhi said it can be found at least

I was just talking about RKS and afghani genetics and brought up how i had some Bodhi Goji OG that im positive was RKS pheno, this shit defined "loud".
I couldnt find anything about a powerful skunk phenotype though.

Found this interesting read though and it explains why the Goji OG had the intense skunk aroma. It has Nepali OG in it and nepal is part of where afghan genetics derive from.

Afghan weed presents some of the heirloom genetics of the indica family, which traditionally come from that part of the world: Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Nepal, etc.

Then i found this article on the origins of skunk, and it explains that the RKS was Neville's of Mr.Nice seeds. This would explain the strain named "shit" lol.

The Skunk is, doubtless, one of the most widely known and grown cannabis strains worldwide. The Skunk marijuana is a poly hybrid between two Sativa landraces – Colombian Gold and Acapulco Gold – and an Afghani Indica purebred.

This legendary cannabis strain was developed during the early 70’s in California by a group of growers and breeders known as Sacred Seeds, leaded by Sam Skunkman.

During this glorious time, selections of thousands of plants were usually performed outdoors. In this way, the best traits of the gene pool were detected and stabilised over the years, according to the criteria that has made the Skunk to become a truly impressive marijuana variety: nice yields, early flowering, nice branching, dense and resinous flowers with few leaves and extraordinary scent.

During the 80’s Sam Skunkman brought the Skunk to Europe (Netherlands) and sold some seeds under the name of Cultivator’s Choice. The remaining stock of seeds was then bought by Neville Shoenmakers, owner of The Seed Bank, later to become the Sensi Seed Bank.

Today, the Skunk#1 is considered a stable and homogeneous plant, what explains why it is so oftenly used to develop new hybrids such as Haze x Skunk or Seedsman’s Hawaïan Skunk.

Despite this fact, the parents used to create the Skunk#1 were different from one year to another, so slight differences could be found between different phenotypes. An example of this is the renowned UK Cheese Exodus cut, found in a pack of Skunk#1 from Sensi Seeds back in 1988 in the U.K. The unforgettable smell and taste of this phenotype made it a true classic in the global cannabis scene.

Nowadays, we find two main Skunk#1 variations: on one hand, we have Sam Skunkman’s “Sweet Skunk“, a mostly Sativa genetics with sweet, refined aromas and a very pleasant effect. On the other hand, the “Roadkill Skunk” – developed by Neville, who is currently working with Mr. Nice Seedbank – is an Afghani dominant Skunk line, with very intense aroma and a more relaxing effect.

There were several skunk strains of weed around NorCal in the late 1970s, not just Sacred Seeds skunk, as is commonly claimed. I knew at least 2 other growers of it then, anyway. Most if it was pure sinsemilia; no seeds. Most were early land race crosses: Afghan x Mexican or Afghan x Colombian. What is said to be Skunk #1 was likely a cross between Afghan and an early Haze (Mexi x 'lombo, and maybe re-x 'lombo). Skunk weed was pretty common around NorCal for many years. Some was good, some was so-so, some reeked, some smelled less of skunk. People went crazy for skunk and purple for a while there when sinsemilia was cheap in NorCal, before it started being shipped back east and prices went high and fast, from $100 an ounce to $400 in the early 80s.
