where 2 Dank Zappa males were used. After this I decided on one DZ male keeper. (Better structure, internodal distance, smell, stem rub, flower cluster density, color)

Why are you choosing that male based on it's looks rather than based on his performance?

Progeny testing could prove that the male you've chosen not to keep may perform beter.

Especially when mating poly hybrids.

Because I lack the time and space. I feel comfortable in my choice given all the info I could gather between the two up until the end of flower for them. The male I settled on was my favorite all along as well. I didn't run some crazy pheno hunt but I did have 8 males to choose from too. I already have some Star Dawg IX to go into rotation and then Skunk 91 that just got germinated.

Plus I'm the kind of guy that just has to jump into something and feel it out. Otherwise I'll just sit around hemming and hawing about what to do, how to do it, etc. I need that hands on experience and then it's all more relevant to me. I was after a certain flavor and terp profile in the Zappas too, if it's not there then I'll at least F2 as planned to back things up, maybe run my favorite cut of the lot another time or two, and let it go. I still have a clone of the male vegging right now to use again in the future and I also harvested the pollen and put it in the freezer for safe storage.

I would have given the simple answer (space constraints). Haha.

I don't typically keep my males any longer than I need them to collect pollen a time or two because of space limits. But I try to collect pollen from nearly every male too.

That can be really dodgy.
You really need to grow out the seeds first,
Or cross with both males to your females (pollinate different parts, ie, male 1 all top buds,)then you pick the best later.
You'll kick yourself if you picked the wrong one.

However I understand the space issues.
And wish you success.

you,d never know if you chose the right male anyway if you had 1000 to pick from unless you run tests on the males . this is the future in breeding i believe , till then we throw that shit round and grow the offspring.

then if your going for testing and you have higher thc or cbd in a male , is it going to be carrying the structure and vigour your looking for ...... thats only the surface of it guess .

I want to take my black cherry pie bx female hit it with dog jam 91 male pollen than cross back to my black cherry pie search for a great male than cross that to my best female plants. I also want to take the different Chem Dog crosses i got and mcreate a nice male i can just dump all over everything great i have. most likely creating stuff thats very Chem dominant.
Pollen chucking to an extent but its for myself anyways.

Its called 81808 its 818SFV x Ultimate Chem 08. was an idiot and didn't keep a male. ill probably hit it with some Face on Fire male pollen then with the resulting seeds find a solid male out of 50 males. and use that to hit the 81808 with

this will be next year tho when i have 1000sqft to work with.

Here is a cross that i made and chopped yesterday...Cosmic cookies is cookie kush x purple skunk. Great smell started of as a chocolate bakery smel first month and ended up with a dark choc cherry smell. Hoping the smell will pass to the taste.
