So much more to all of this than we are hearing from government or MSM. Take a look at what Professor and Dr. Francis Boyle has to say on the subject.

We already have multiple threads to trash Trump so please spew your rhetoric in those threads.

This thread is intended to share information on the virus.

The Delay - by Trump - in recognizing the threat posed by a historically infectious problem organism ... is unfortunately very relevant.

Sort of like the role Paul Reiser plays in "Aliens" when he persistently down-plays the risk played by the Big Bugs, and then dis-arms troops sent to fight the Bugs.

Looks like some people on this thread are blaming China for the lack of chemical reagents and supplies related to testing, etc. We are trying to compete with 180 other nations for these supplies, AFTER the virus has been spreading rampantly for weeks. It’s kind of like arriving two hours late for a party, and being mad at the host that there’s no more seven layer dip.
And lets not forget that multiple countries offered their assistance and someone said no.

In the 1980's the US had AWESOME manufacturing facilities.

I got a chance to tour a Westinghouse machine shop in the late 1970's where they were machining 40 foot diameter gears for nuclear subs.

Also, not just power supply manufacturing - high voltage power supply manufacturing.

And it was all ripped out or down by Americans.

It's a really strange change. A good part of my time as an engineer was spent finding or creating second sources for components.

Now single sourcing is in vogue, somehow - even for Apple.

At the beginning it was Texas where manufacturing was sent, facilities on the border, Mexican labor. Then Tijuana etc etc etc till China became the epicenter.

I was hoping to keep following this thread since it seemed for the most part to be nonpartisan and focused on the issue at hand. But then the hacks and idiots of both sides start digging in to play politics. Time to move on back to growing threads.

In these uncertain times politics..religion..points of view will be expected.

I have not censured or banned or erased any post in this thread because WE need all to express our opinions no matter how WE differ.

I encourage more news updates from all to help us stay informed.

The House of Representatives passed a coronavirus aid package early Saturday that could includes free testing, paid emergency leave and other resources intended to help stem the crisis and stabilize financial markets, hours after President Donald Trump declared the outbreak a national emergency.

Public and private institutions across the U.S. have closed or told staff to work from home, as countries across Europe and the Middle East close borders and ban flights in a bid to contain the virus.

The United States as of Friday afternoon had surpassed 2,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, and the death toll climbed to 50, with 25 of the deaths associated with the Life Care Center in Kirkland, Washington.

As the coronavirus outbreak continues to accelerate in the U.S., cleaning supplies are disappearing off the shelves and people are worried about every subway rail, deli counter and toilet seat they touch.

But how long can the new coronavirus linger on surfaces, anyway? The short answer is, we don't know. A new analysis found that the virus can remain viable in the air for up to 3 hours, on copper for up to 4 hours, on cardboard up to 24 hours and on plastic and stainless steel up to 2 to 3 days.

Another study published in February in The Journal of Hospital Infection analyzed several dozen previously published papers on human coronaviruses (other than the new coronavirus) to get a better idea of how long they can survive outside of the body.

They concluded that if this new coronavirus resembles other human coronaviruses, such as its "cousins" that cause SARS and MERS, it can stay on surfaces — such as metal, glass or plastic — for as long as nine days (In comparison, flu viruses can last on surfaces for only about 48 hours.)

But some of them don't remain active for as long at temperatures higher than 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius). The authors also found that these coronaviruses can be effectively wiped away by household disinfectants.

For example, disinfectants with 62-71% ethanol, 0.5% hydrogen peroxide or 0.1% sodium hypochlorite (bleach) can "efficiently" inactivate coronaviruses within a minute, according to the study. "We expect a similar effect against the 2019-nCoV," the researchers wrote, referring to the new coronavirus. But even though the new coronavirus is a similar strain to the SARS coronavirus, it's not clear if it will behave the same.

It's also not clear how frequently hands become contaminated with coronaviruses after touching a sick patient or contaminated surface, according to the study. The World Health Organization recommends washing hands or using alcohol-based hand rubs for decontamination of the hands, the authors wrote.

It's possible that a person can be infected with the virus by touching a contaminated surface or object, "then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes," according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). "But this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads." Though the virus remains viable in the air, the new study can't say whether people can become infected by breathing it in from the air, according to the Associated Press.

The virus is most likely to spread from person to person through close contact and respiratory droplets from coughs and sneezes that can land on a nearby person's mouth or nose, according to the CDC.

I was wondering when the snowflakes would figure that out. But some boomers (like me) are smarter than the germs and the snowflakes, and will be around on the other side, to once again hear them ask if I want fries or baked potato with my Ribeye.

Chinese billionaire Jack Ma says he will donate one million face masks and 500,000 coronavirus testing kits to the US

Chinese billionaire and Alibaba co-founder Jack Ma said he will donate 500,000 coronavirus testing kits and one million face masks to the United States.

The kits and masks have been sourced and are ready to be delivered, he said Friday on Twitter and Weibo, China's micro-blogging platform.
"Drawing from my own country's experience, speedy and accurate testing and adequate personal protective equipment for medical professionals are most effective in preventing the spread of the virus," Jack Ma said in a statement. "We hope that our donation can help Americans fight against the pandemic!"
Ma's offer came just hours after US President Donald Trump declared a national emergency to free up $50 billion in federal resources to combat coronavirus amid criticism authorities had been too slow to test and respond as the disease spread from Asia to America's shores.

WHERE'S THE U.S. GOVERNMENT ROLLOUT?
