Coronavirus.. outlook

German officials expect 70% of the population will get infected.
Germany: 82 Mio residents

82.000.000 / 100 *70% = 57400000 infected people

57400000 / 100 * 3,4% = 1951600 dead people or something about 2 Mio. dead people
57400000 / 100 * 6.2% = 3558800 dead people or something about 3.5 Mio. dead people

US: 320.000.000 / 100 * 70% = 224000000 infected people

224000000 / 100 * 3,4% = 7616000 dead people or about 7.6 Mio dead people
224000000 / 100 * 6,2% = 13888000 dead people or about 13.9 Mio dead people

I still seriously hope I'm wrong, because if this will happen, there will be an age before Corona and an age after Corona.

Ya'll stocked up on toilet paper and other fear induced commodity purchases?

Being a healthy young not 70 year old pensioner I'm booking cheap flights.

Has nothing to do with fear Mikell, but you can go to Vietnam.A group of Dutch are now locked up because they've to wait for the test results.Bon vacance :tiphat:

121 new cases & a fifth death in Holland.

The UK does have quite a large elderly population - many with pre-existing conditions -

- the question pops up - is this a covert cull - or just a silly Chinese mistake?

I think from the moment they started keeping such things in built up areas, it's been a silly mistake. It's not even the first. Or second. This is simply an eventuality. This kind of research should be done at one of the poles. Like all good horror movies. With bunkers and a snow covered landing site. Where the entire encampment has a nobody in or out protocol, without short term quarantine.

For all the preppers here: Buy medical oxygen. You need meds to lower your fever (Ibuprofen & Paracetamol) and oxygen. About 20% of the infected people get seriously ill and most of them need oxygen and expect the hospitals completely crowded after a while. Could be there is no bed for you anymore and also no oxygen.

I bought something similar to this one:
https://www.amazon.de/medizinischer...ÕÑ&keywords=Sauerstoff&qid=1580171506&sr=8-53

I'm sure you will find similar stuff in you country.

I am a 'high risk patient', what means I have high blood pressure and a couple other pre-exsisting diseases. If you are in the same position like me and have some bucks left: buy oxygen!

Have a look here:
https://www.who.int/docs/default-so...na-joint-mission-on-covid-19-final-report.pdf

On page 12 you will find:
"patients with comorbid conditions had much higher rates: 13.2% for those with cardiovascular disease, 9.2% for diabetes, 8.4% for hypertension, 8.0% for chronic respiratory disease, and 7.6% for cancer."

8.4% just for hypertension. So for me it will be like playing Russian roulette with a ten shot revolver...

It's all fear. Whether it be fear induced purchasing or fear mongering, as ya'll are doing here. How many pages of tripe is this thread up to? For a disease that damn near exclusively effects people who live in care facilities.

indeed it is,,, my roommate came back from China in late December,,, the cough is kinda persistent,,, but have had much worse flu before

yeah, it has been going around in US for a while,,, but it is fear that they want to spread,,,

don't believe the hype,,, or the bumbling idiot charade that appears incredibly lackadaisical,,,

this is not the big one

Geneva Sativa, what ever became of your roommate? WuFlu? You didn't catch it?

sure seems it was,,, this was before news of spread,,, like i said way back,,, persistent cough,,, sometime some pain,/ discomfort when coughing,,, and sometime, because cough, ing, tricky to catch breath

All in all, not that bad as some of flu i had before,,

What let me hope a bit is this:

Remdesivir and chloroquine effectively inhibit the recently emerged novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in vitro
https://www.nature.com/articles/s41422-020-0282-0

Use google translator. I don't find this in english right now:
Remdesivir: Wirkt gescheitertes Ebolamittel gegen 2019-nCoV?
https://www.aerzteblatt.de/nachrich...rkt-gescheitertes-Ebolamittel-gegen-2019-nCoV

aerzteblatt.de is a German professional medical journal.

But I doubt this will be available for all right in time.

Dutch couple living in the affected area in Italy.

Susanne lives in Italy and warns: "You don't realize how serious corona is"

WAALWIJK - Susanne Kleijssen from Waalwijk has been living with her family in Bergamo for years. There she sees the effects of the corona virus on daily life. Via a message on Facebook she warns Dutch people: take more measures.
WRITTEN BY
Janneke Bosch
She can well imagine the feeling of many Dutch people: “Two weeks ago we were where you are now. I also laughed it out first. You would get a slight flu, we thought. That is not too bad. But that is really not the case. ”

Ambulances drive off and on
The whole of Italy is now locked. Bergamo, where Susanne lives, has a hard time. “I spoke to a friend who works at the hospital here yesterday. They can no longer handle the amount of patients. They have to make choices: who to help and who to let die. "

That sounds harsh, but that's the situation, says Susanne. “There are not enough beds, there is not enough equipment for ventilation. And this virus draws to your lungs, so many patients need respiration. Ambulances drive on and off all day. Older people are not even picked up anymore. It is really an absurd situation. "

A situation where she could not have imagined anything a few weeks ago. "It's really unreal." Susanne works at Bergamo airport herself, but is now at home. “We are all obliged to take vacation days. Because there are so many fewer flights now. ” Her husband has a flower shop. He would prefer to sell as much as possible, so that he can stay home afterwards.

Rows for the supermarket
Many shops are already closed, some are still open. Susanne herself has 'hoarded' a lot. “There are long lines in front of the supermarket. Someone is only allowed in once someone has come out again. "

Residents of Bergamo have been told that they should stop their social contacts as much as possible. “We can't just leave the village anymore. Then you need a form that states that you need to go to work, for example. People are also checked whether they have such a form with them. " It sounds surreal, but it is necessary, Susanne thinks. "It is really a frightening situation."

Video lessons
Her son and daughter of eighteen and fourteen have been at home since last month. They receive video lessons from school. Although that does not run smoothly everywhere. "They are a bit behind, yes. But that is not the most important thing now. My son has to get his diploma this year. He wants to study next year at the University of Amsterdam. "

We don't have to let it get as far in the Netherlands as in Italy, Susanne thinks. “But then something has to happen. I think it is so strange that Rutte does not go further than just 'no more shaking hands'. I thought it was ridiculous. Here in Italy all the schools closed after a few days. And with you, everything just keeps on going. As if you don't realize how serious it is. "

Stay at home
According to Susanne, calling in Brabant to work mainly at home is possible. Yet the hair does not really go far enough. She tries to convince her family in the Netherlands to stay at home. “My mother in Waalwijk wanted to visit a friend in the hospital in Den Bosch. Don't, I told her. "

It is not her intention to sow panic, Susanne emphasizes. “I don't want to scare anyone, but I do want to shake people up. This is no ordinary flu. "
