Coronavirus.. outlook

Alaska, as of the moment, has 228 dead form C-19, with 49,835 confirmed infections.

I look back on some of the more callous statements about it only killing the old and infirm (something that wasn't entirely true, and we now have numbers for persons who were healthy and younger), and I recalled the sentiment re. the economy being more important than geezers who'd already sucked enough air.

Then I remembered what a young man at the Dakota Pipeline occupation wrote; "Every time we lose an elder, it is as though someone burned down a library."

Few other statements had clarified the value of our seniors so well; those older than my self, and those older than them. There's a richness of heritage that is diminished when oral reports of 'those times' are told less and less, as their population declines in their departure.

Lotta' libraries burned down this year and last.

The US legalized medical use of Ivermectin for Covid19 treatment on Friday Jan. 15.

Very interesting timing.

Chris Martenson predicted this incident, about 10 days ago, after flying to Texas (or somewhere) to spend time with Dr. Kory and someone named Marik (?).

here's the actual NIH statement
it's interesting

Since the last revision of the Ivermectin section of the Guidelines, the results of several randomized trials and retrospective cohort studies of ivermectin use in patients with COVID-19 have been published in peer-reviewed journals or made available as preliminary, non-peer-reviewed reports. Some clinical studies showed no benefits or worsening of disease after ivermectin use,11-14 whereas others reported shorter time to resolution of disease manifestations attributed to COVID-19,15-18 greater reduction in inflammatory markers,16,17 shorter time to viral clearance,11,16 or lower mortality rates in patients who received ivermectin than in patients who received comparator drugs or placebo.11,16,18
However, most of the studies reported to date had incomplete information and significant methodological limitations, which make it difficult to exclude common causes of bias. The missing information and limitations include the following:

  • The sample size of most of the trials was small.
  • Various doses and schedules of ivermectin were used.
  • Some of the randomized controlled trials were open-label studies in which neither the participants nor the investigators were blinded to the treatment arms.
  • In addition to ivermectin or the comparator drug, patients also received various concomitant medications (e.g., doxycycline, hydroxychloroquine, azithromycin, zinc, corticosteroids), confounding assessment of the true efficacy or safety of ivermectin.
  • The severity of COVID-19 in the study participants was not always well described.
  • The study outcome measures were not always clearly defined.
Because of these limitations, the Panel cannot draw definitive conclusions about the clinical efficacy or safety of ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19. Results from adequately powered, well-designed, and well-conducted clinical trials are needed to provide more specific, evidence-based guidance on the role of ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19.

Pardon my vernacular, but the limitations and deficiencies in that 'group' of studies, under normal protocols, makes it out to be nothing shy of a cluster-fuck of data.

I felt preliminarily enlightened and eyes-open when I read phatty's post above yours, but the technicalities of the path to the results stated, is abysmal where anything resembling clean science is involved.

Pardon me again, but "Jesus H Christ!!"

I know we're in desperate times, but that's no reason to produce what at least appears to be worthless data. I hope those who fell short on proper protocol aren't -paid- for this!!!

Of course, it's Docs, so chances are they'll be paid whether it's a fuck-up or not. One of the few professions where the more mistakes they make, the more money they earn, up until the price they're paying for malpractice insurance bolts toward the sky.

But even then, they'll still bill you for do-overs they screwed the pooch on in the first place. They'll just have to bill more, to cover the increased malpractice insurance.

Now also found German corona mutation

Medics in the German ski resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen have discovered an as yet unknown mutation of the corona virus. 35 people would already have been infected with this new variant.
The new mutation came to light last week when running corona tests at a hospital in Garmisch Partenkirchen. Equipment did indicate that a virus was present, but did not respond to known mutations, Bavarian media report. So a new variant.

Corona measures tightened

This weekend all people who stayed in the hospital - including the staff - were subjected to a corona test. That test resulted in 73 infections, of which almost half with the new variant.

The extent to which the new German mutation is more contagious or more dangerous than the already known variants is now being investigated in Berlin. This is expected to be more clear in the coming days. The corona measures in the hospital have been tightened to prevent further spread.

Mutations

It is not abnormal that a virus mutates, according to Frank Niederbühl, director of the clinic in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Since the start of the pandemic, 12,000 small changes in the virus have been found worldwide.

A 5-day course of ivermectin resulted in an earlier clearance of the virus compared to placebo (p = 0.005), thus indicating that early intervention with this agent may limit viral replication within the host. In the 5-day ivermectin group, there was a significant drop in CRP and LDH by day 7, which are indicators of disease severity. It is noteworthy that the viral nucleic acid Ct value (indicator of viral load) dropped significantly compared to the placebo group on day 7 and day 14. In the absence of co-morbidity, a 5-day course of ivermectin treatment showed faster SARS-CoV-2 virus clearance compared to the placebo arm (9 vs 13 days; p = 0.02).

Current numbers for Alaska, per Avi Schiffmann's C-19 Dashboard site:

50,572 confirmed infections (an increase of 125) 229 dead (an increase of1)

1,414,531 tests administered (Alaska has a population, currently, of some where near 740,000(+/-), last I read).

Fairbanks North Star Borough Schools opened for elementary students to attend in-person... at the outset of a new variant that acts more aggressively in transmission.

Hard to teach kids not to touch a hot stove, when the adults present don't always seem to know much better themselves.

A new mutation was identified:

"These data highlight the prospect of reinfection with antigenically distinct variants and may foreshadow reduced efficacy of current spike-based vaccines."

This new mutation will make the vaccinations more or less useless. This is what many people feared. The virus keeps on mutating and we can't vaccinate the whole world population a couple of times every year.

Watch out for the vax passport. No vax, no doing this or that. They are really talking upthe 75% must be vaxed to get herd immunity. They are fostering a vaxed vs un-vaxed social tension. The non-vaxers who won't join the herd of sheep who did, are keeping the sheep from enjoying their gov't-given freedoms, because herd immunity isn't happening.

That is coming. On the other hand, a lot of people see through this BS, and are resisting. Count me as a resister. And a non-mask wearing one at that.
