Hey moose, I was knocking trump with that comment, not your sterilisation box idea, which is sound.
I almost trust trump more though. He'd have a polished script rather than making an idiot of himself globally if he was presenting the face of a conspiracy.

I believe the US is just 19 bodies shy of 51,000 dead at the moment, and there's an article in Medscape re. some places claiming the numbers are higher (NJ?), not lower, as some have claimed (via links and elsewise) in this thread.

But yeah, "I need my hair done," "I need my nails done," "I need to visit my regular tavern," "I'm tired of being locked down in the house," "I need to do my part for the GDP," "I'm tired of eating my own cooking," etc., etc., etc.

I see LOTS of evidence that tells me we're not as bright as we often lead ourselves to believe we are.. as a species, and sometimes individually.

"Hey, kid, there's something out there. I think it's lethal. Lots of dead bodies laying behind it..."

"REALLY!! Let me SEE!!!!" :)

yeah, we are undercounting just like everyone else. if a body is found,(minus bullet holes, a knife in the back, etc) they do not do an autopsy unless foul play is suspected. NYC said they were finding & removing nearly 300 bodies a day from apartment buildings etc a week or so back. old age? overdose? Covid-19? don't care. bury 'em...

Report in Medscape states 93% of persons with COVID-19 symptoms weren't tested..

Sounds perfectly under control, sufficiently to let folks 'open up' again, right??

Bu.... but... MONEY!!! And liberty, 'cause I ought to be able to choose to move my body through space any way I wish, even if it accelerates the infecting of others.

What I really wish, and I mean this, is that those who play loosely with this situation, would be the ONLY persons potentially infected by way of their lack of seriousness. If that were the case, then I'd be out front, waving the green flag, and hollering, "GO!!! GO!!! GO!!!" But that's simply not the way a pandemic spreads; it gets bystanders, persons engaged in casual or brief interactions, etc.

Those new cases reflect the testing they are doing now. Most positives have no symptoms, in other words, it doesn't hurt most people.

If you have fucked up lungs, wear a damn mask and write fook foochie on the front with a sharpie. Quit holding things and then picking your nose and rubbing your eyes.

Our whole economy screwed up because foochie didn't have masks for everybody in the stockpile. This despite him and vacine bill and their little corona pandemic simulation.

I mean shit, they had a conference about how to handle a pandemic and the masks weren't the topic #1?

I haven't checked our local nursery outlet yet for seed spuds, though they had plenty of other seed packets when I was in there several weeks ago.

There are other commercial spud (and certified spud seed) farms here that grow decent spuds, but we've been spoiled by really good spud varieties, and it's hard to go back to random when awesome has been the routine.

I sometimes use the referenced nursery for immediate needs of more specialized sorts, for ganja-related nutes or more obscure amendments, when I don't mail order, or get the larger bulk items at the less expensive box stores (HD, Lowes, etc.), who tend to handle Sunshine Mix and Pro-Mix for less $$, as well as vermiculite and perlite at half the cost or less of many nurseries.

------------------

I joked the other day when someone went into town, re. the current malaise, the predictions of the SW US and Mexico being headed into a drought not seen in 1,000 years, the Virus, a town down the road a bit over 100 miles that has, for may years now, had infestations of grasshoppers/locusts that would cover our concrete footing on the house, in the summer at times, when we briefly lived there.

I jokingly asked the person over the phone, who was giving me the play-by-play of their town trip, if they'd seen any folks on the sidewalks who'd been turned into pillars of salt yet.

So, thus far, from what I can tell, there's been no shortage of seed spuds or veggie seeds here, though there was an article in the Anchorage Daily News several weeks ago, about making plans for gardens in absence of normal seed availability. I assumed they were talking about some of the remote villages, in the absence of as frequent of air traffic out to those places as might sometimes be more common, and which they rely on for mail and other freight..

Actually I stopped by the seed packets at Lowes and HD several times per the last month and they are wiped out compared to any other years especially before May.

To clarify, I wasn't referencing Lowes or HD for seeds, but rather the vermiculite, perlite, Pro-Mix and SSMix.

The seed displays I was referencing where we are were at a local garden center/nursery & Fred Meyer; a Kroger grocery & dept. store. I haven't looked in at least several weeks, and wasn't seeking them when I saw them at FM, but I assume they're still there.

Current worldwide count for COVID-19 deaths is 197,351. US deaths totaling 52,217.

It's been in the US less time than numerous other places, but the US accounts for well over 25% of all world deaths as of right now.... in a Country of only ~350,000,000 people.

I'd say there was a distinct lack of ability, and a lack of preparedness, and we have seriously undermined all those inflated claims of "Greatest Country in the world."

Aye..... The Emperor and his empire just has some old rags to make do with!

There's an old Greek word...., hubris or something like that ...... It somehow seems vaquely relevant here!

It's also been shown to kill (otherwise) healthy persons, though at a substantially lower frequency.

The persons MOST susceptible include those with heart disease, lung or respiratory diseases, kidney and/or liver disease, diabetes, auto-immune disorders, the weak, and the elderly.

Anyone here NOT know a bunch of folks in one or more of those categories? (*I'm being serious, not flippant..).

And how do we react to it? People are getting mad, we are so comfortable with our personal rights, that we don't even care about "the weak" and "the elderly"

They say things like: "I don't care for lives, i want my freedom back!"

Others like the situation and say: "I told you this will happen!"

A lot of people are so in love with prosperity, that they willingly sacrifice lives and say: "We have to save the economy first, let the weak die for its sake."

There is no love, we have personal rights!
Madness is ruling the world, because everybody thinks, we have the right to rule our own little world.

There is no trust, but we have leaders.
They don't know how to handle the madness, so they will fail, like they always did.
When they lose, they blame everyone but the own person, like they always do.
The wise will not give hope to the leaders in this system, because this system is meant to fall.
There is not a glimpse of hope for the system, so don't be part of it.

When madness rules the world, love should be your revolution. Care for each other and you will see, that your leaders will not be happy with it, because they can not control you when you walk the path of life, the path of Jesus.

With a rapid-testing system that can detect all strains of the virus is the only thing that is going to restore any degree of normality any time soon. The virus is adaptive and for all we know can affect pets, livestock, wildlife, and even zoo animals. Its not going to be solved by just one vaccine. We'll probably need a vaccine for every strain and then we've got to track down what other species have contracted variants of it and vaccinate those species too. Wiping out this virus is going to be one of the toughest challenges humans have ever engaged in. It will probably take years if we're lucky and decades if we're not.

This is NOWHERE near over:

Blood Clotting = BIG PROBLEM

Blood Clotting is also a complication of Malaria.

https://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Healthy-people-in-their-30s-and-40s-barely-sick-15224874.php

the one surgeon describes how they see clots forming around the clot they targeted using a needle like instrument.

i always thought blood clots take a long time, related to what you see when you cut yourself.

However it sounds like some viruses turn your blood into, like when you make custard. you start with a quart of milk, pour in some powder, and it almost magically - just a little bit in the case of a blood clot - turns into something thick and goopy. i.e. a clot.

cost of treating malaria-like illness $20

cost of letting it progress till people need ventilators & stroke surgery $100K+

guess we know where the US "health care" industry has their priorities.

AgentPothead

Just this guy, ya know?
From my understanding the clotting is correlated to most of the deaths. Something like 83% of the chinese cases had clots in the lungs.
