I wouldn't be too worried about them being the wrong strain unless you have reason to suspect a shady seed vendor or something such as the seeds not coming in the original Ace packaging or the seeds coming from a seed bank that Ace doesn't sell to.

I'm not sure which thread it was in now, but I think I remember reading somewhere that Congo was recently worked a bit more towards the PCK side of its heritage in this last generation. Given that Congo has always had a good bit of Kush in its heritage I wouldn't be too worried about your young plants looking the way they do. :)

I am about 2 months into growing one of the newer feminized Congo seeds...yes, it does look like an Indian Indica until it stretches. After that, mine has turned completely thin-leaf/long internode Sativa...no mistaking it at this point, but where you're at she looked very similar initially.

Thanks guys, appreciate the help!
they will probably go to flower in a week so hopefully they show their true colors then! :tiphat:

Welcome ScoobyDoobie,

Congo was bred for compact indica traits and for earliness, but dont worry, it will show its congolese sativa heritage in flowering. Best wishes!

My one and only pheno of Congo is hairy like nothing I've ever seen before, I mean extremely hairy to the point you can barely see the bud under after curing and hairs break off all over the place just touching it.

Not super dense buds so I think it leans towards one of it's African parents in that respect at least.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know which of the parents has this extreme hairiness trait?

Thank you Dubi for your help! :thank you:

Not in flower yet but from the 7 seeds i cracked, so far i think i can identify 2 phenos. one is more indica leaning with shorter structure and fatter leaves and the other looks more sativa leaning with more stretch and starting to get longer leaves.

The veggin cabinet is starting to get a nice skunky funky smell already! they all look like very strong and healthy plants.

a few pics from this week:

I will update as they progress.

short update on my congrow:

Ended up cloning all the tops and made a SOG.
out of 7 plants i got 1 male and 6 females!

currently on day 13 of flower. got them on 12/12 so far and was wondering if you would recommend staying like that or going for longer dark period (10/14)?

They are in coco amended with compost, crab shell, dry brown kelp, biozome and mycorrhizae. been feeding them compost tea and neptune's harvest fish and seaweed mix. they seem happy and so am I.

Hi ScoobyDoobie,

They look healthy and happy so far, 12/12 photoperiod is correct for Congo strain. You dont need to lower down the hours of ligh to finish them properly.

Kind regards!

Greetings de145,

It's without any doubt a sativa trait from the congolese genetics in the hybrid. Hairy high flower/leaf ratio is a sativa trait, indica flowering is more leafy.

My congo fems are vegging away. Definitely a strong strawberry / pink floral smell when the stems are rubbed.

GENETICS: Bangi X ( Congo #3 / Chitral ) 75% Sativa / 25 % Indica

This delicious African hybrid combines the Bangi Congo which is a rare African landrace almost extinct with fast flowering and small height, the Congo #3 which is another electric Congolese with strong energetic high, and a bit of Chitral Indica to reduce its height and final flowering.
STRUCTURE: Medium height.
BOUQUET: The aroma is as sweet as honey with delicate and fresh floral details.
POTENCY: Premium quality energetic high, perfect for an active life.
FLOWERING: 10-11 weeks. 2nd half of October.
YIELD/M2: High
GROW TYPE: Indoors/Outdoors

We have been breeding with 3 different congolese sativa the past years at ACE Seeds.
We combined 2 congoleses ( Bangi congo and Congo# 3) in our Congo hybrid and a third one which was used for Bangi Haze (congolese x nepalese hybrid).

Pure congolese sativa usually grows tall, bushy with thin stems. The flowering time is around 14 weeks or a little bit longer. Their flowers have a sweet/floral/honey bouquet with earthy and spicy details. The high is powerful, clean, uplifting and euphoric. First class sativa effect, elegantly focused.

An exception to classical tall Congolese sativas is the Bangi Congo. It’s a pure sativa like her tall sisters, but grows smaller and with a shorter flowering time of 10-11 weeks.
It’s a little bit less potent than the long flowering Congolese.

Kaiki, one of our breeders, has been experimenting with the high quality long flowering Congolese sativa, called as Congo #3 the past 4 years. Congo #3 was crossed with a pure chitral Pakistan indica. Chitral reduces the flowering time and size of the Congolese but without being very dominant in high or aromas. He inbred the F1 hybrid sativa/indica to the F3 step, selecting only the best compact and fast flowering strong phenos with the best congolese influence in the finished product. The Congolese x Chitral inbred line is called ‘Conchi’.

Then we used a fast flowering and compact Bangi Congo female and pollinated her with the best F3 Conchi ( Congo #3 x Pakistan) males.

The result is a Congolese dominant sativa hybrid which grows compact and flowers in only 10-11 weeks. The colas are totally sativa but they have high bud density, high resin production and a very high/flower leaf ratio. The sweet, floral congolese aromas and the high quality euphoric high are on the congolese side, but accentuated by hybrid vigour.

Second and third pic is Congo grown organically indoors

My 3 congo phenos finished in 9 weeks to the day under 11D/13N. There's a PCK purple pheno, a green thicker pheno which looks like green PCK mixed with a bit of the Bangi, and one which is completely African sativa looking - very tall and spindly. I figure the tall stretchy one is the Congo #3 influence. The PCK variants smell like pink flowers with a fruity hint of ..strawberry? By contrast, the sativa African pheno has very earthy, dirt / sandalwood African sativa-ish smells.
