Hi Dubi,
Mine have been in flower for 40days and have black licorice &sweet skunky smell and strechy but good bud density.
What pheno would you say it leans?

Hello southernpeace,

The licorice aroma is without any doubt a very congolese trait. Best wishes!

Hi all!

A question for Dubi.

Any plan on Congo Fem in the near future? You allready had it no?

I had one very nice pheno that leaned to the PCK and this outdoor season I've planted some Purple Mexican and remembered me of the Congo.

Thanks.

The Purple Rose of Congo

The Purple Rose of Congo

Well...she came down yesterday. 63rd day of 12/12. It's been a strange grow. The plant was, I think, underfed early on...it was a bit bumpy because I had three other plants growing at the same time that thrived - although the Congo had a week on them...Whatever, she ended up purpling substantially, as you can see. I have no idea whether this may have been caused by some deficiency or whether cold in the morning could have caused it. I note that I saw sporadic and much more subtle signs of the purpling in a Mextiza from CBG that I just took down tonight (pictures posted over on the CBG forum). Any ideas? Let's play Name The Deficiency! I'm thinking Phosphorous but I know nothing about this stuff.

Her flowering did not seem to be bothered...at least substantially. The buds are bountiful and look a bit denser than other Congos...Can't wait to try her!

High mayan,

Seems to be a mix of cold, purple colors from the sligh pakistani influence and flushing. Nothing to worry about, looks delicious :yummy:

Thanks, dubi! And hat's off! Just sampled the recently demised Congo and well, um, WOW! Harvested at 63 days under lights, bud dried for 5 or so days. And this is quite close to tripping. Major body rushes, heightened colors, awake and not a shred of paranoia to be seen for miles. In fact relaxed with warm waves going through me. Smoked about 15 minutes ago and still in ascent - at first, I didn't think much was happening but currently can only type with effort. Can only imagine what this will be like after a cure.

A couple of other thoughts - the smoke was suprisingly mild for such a rapid dry. I used a pipe and girded my loins for acrid and harsh but this was smooth and almost cooling. Haven't used it in vaporizer yet. I don't have a good taste for flavors when combusting, so I'll try vaping next. This pheno has about as dense a bud as I've seen in this strain - the phenos I've smoked before have been excellent - they tended more towards wispy and/or fibrous. Her scent is lemony and hashy with some underlying other kind of wild fruit or something else that I can't put my finger on yet.

So...Cheers! The strain has always been a bit of an adventure for me to grow - but "adventure" is my middle name. This one was as well. But the adventure is well worth it - this is a great "high."

Hey Mayan

You are probably still really high from your morning smoke, but I have been reading up on grows of Orient Express and Bangi Haze in addition to Congo. Your grows have been very interesting in all of these--and also of Nepalese Jam.

Would you mind contrasting these strains? Congo vs Bangi, for example? or Congo vs Bangi vs Oriental Haze? and of course, knowing that you were impressed by Nepalese Jam, how do these strains all fit together?

I just finished a grow of 5 Sweetest Sativas, looking for a clear electric high. Although they were all interesting and strong smoke, none of them were particularly "clear". I have turned to ACE for this. I am going to begin a grow of either OE, BH, or NJ soon, and would like some of your perspective.

thanks, vajra

Hmmmm...it's all SO subjective - not only from strain to strain but from pheno to pheno; and from state of mind to state of mind...I'm not sure that I feel the same way from one day to the next...Much less remember a "high" from six months ago...With all that in mind...

Here's my general impressions -
Congo - is pretty trippy. I (and other people who have smoked it) find it active but not paranoid inducing. I have seen cartoon dogs emerge from my persian rug (although I knew that they were hallucinations) of sort. Very beneficient. Is it "clear"? I don't know, I might find it clear but someone else may not...

OE - I found to be both electric and relaxing at the same time - While one would expect it to be like being pulled in two directions by two teams of horses, it didn't feel like that. Electric but not trippy in the same way the Congo is trippy.

In some respects, I find the Bangi Haze to be like the OE...I would think it would be like the Congo but -again- I haven't had that "psychedelic effect" like the Congo gave me. Again...very potent - doesn't have the same warm milk effect that OE has had.

NepJam - at least for me, is very powerful but it's like going to a nice warm beach, wearing your favorite shades and just hanging and smiling. Great day time smoke but trippy nor urgently electric. Mellow, very broad smile and great for playing music.

Hope that helps...words are not adequate. As far as I'm concerned, you can't go wrong with any of 'em. I would say the Bangi Haze might be the most susceptible to raciness but I don't typically go there with any cannabis these days.

thanks for taking the time, mayan.

It seems like i have been on a quest for a clear and energetic sativa for a few years now. La Nina from shanti has been the closest.

One more for you: how would you compare Mental Floss to the ace strains? I marveled at the beautiful MF you grew this year. Is it a sativa-leaning strain? I have a pack in the fridge, as well as two packs of Fighting Buddha to crack. Sweetest Sativa is a more complex high than I anticipated, energetic but not clear.

thanks, vajra

Mayan - Your flowers are looking beautiful, and you did a very nice smoke report. I like hearing about contrasts between strains. Really makes me wish I had the Congo. Perhaps I can get there by using the Bangi I have to cross with the Purple Oldtimers Haze x Thai or Bangi crossed with Golden Tiger.

On a scale of 1 to 10 how hard is Congo to grow? From what I have read it's a bit more picky and sensitive than some of the other Ace strains such as Nep Jam and Orient Express.

Nep Jam is amazingly tough. You could probably set it on fire and it would just make it grow faster. I realize few sativas will take the sort of beating Nep Jam can but how sensitive is Congo compared to something like Destroyer, Orient Express or Nep Jam?

Hello The Hatter,

Congo is easy to grow, similar in height and flowering time to Orient Express for example. Feed them just like a standard sativa/indica hybrid.

:tiphat: Just the news I wanted to hear. My gardening kung fu still needs a bit of work so a forgiving strain is music to my ears.

Mayan, your descriptions are wonderful. Makes want to pop more of the Ace seeds I own and maybe order some Congo and give it another try. You just moved my Nepal Jam seeds to the top of the list!

:thank you:

Very cool! I have seen something similar in someone's Super Silver Haze. I think it may have been in the "Revival of the Ultimate Sativa" thread. If I stumble across it again, I'll post the URL so you can see it.
