Coco Tree's

Oh man, I was hand watering once a day in coco, and thought that was a pain in the butt. Now you're tell me more waterings is better? :) I've got a lot to learn.

Still, in a 2 x 4 closet with a handful of plants, one watering a day worked good enough just for me. Anything larger, and I'll have to learn how to automate the waterings. Something else to add to my learning list.

Excellent thread this is. Thanks for sharing.

Im with djm, that smaller pots than soil n more waterings is the way to get the most out of coir. but if u size the pot to where it doesn't dry too much in a day, then u can do very, very, well with hand watering once a day. Many people do it with great success.

nah never needed to...only had pm once..cleaned room top to bottom, treated all plants and ive never seen it again..it works great, but boy does it reek..i just make sure plants are clean top to bottom as is the room before flip..i also treated all the bushes in my yard so pm cant find its way back inside

can you go into more detail on this
what are you using to treat the plants and clean the room?
do you use any of the commercial greenhouse antifungal bombs like trinity?
I've been using trinity between bloom run.

sorry I'm so late asking, I'm still reading the 1st ten pages of your thread :)

also big :good: for taking your time to post the ins and outs of your craft, it really is most appreciated

I use to hand water once a day and did well with that. I used 5 or 7 gallon bags depending on the strain. Would get 12 to 14 ounces per plant. But if I missed a day I could kill the plant or stunt the crap out of it. I have since drop my pot size to 3.5 and water twice a day by hand. Still get the same amount as before.

More waterings are better because you bring the coco back to the perfect balance. When you water it flushes out the stall air rebalances the PH, and refreshes the nutes to optimal balance. Try a run to see the difference and you should be happy.

That said you must have the root mass to do this or you risk drowning the plant.

MM is right about multi waterings.

Awesome read, even second time.

I run high rh in my tent during flower last run and the filter couldn't cope, if I stuck my head up the exhaust you could smell it coming out. Added new filter and lowered RH and all was good. So need to get to the bottom of that, i think when I left run off in there it raised it way too high, like 85-90% but not 100%. The filter was a brand new CAN also.

Great thread and lots of taken inspiration and motivation from it, thanks a lot Don

Sometimes it's forgotten that coco is a hydro medium. Daily or frequent waterings will outperform other watering schedules, due to the increased oxygenation of the solution. This makes a noticeable increase in yield, but at a cost of nutrient expense and time/effort, so may not matter to some. Definitely the "high performance" way to go for maximum yield, though. I like two gallon buckets as the ideal size for coco Hempys. Mature plants suck that dry overnight, and when they get re-drenched in the morning, they are stoked! The wet/dry cycle seems to work ideally in that size container. Two gallons coco is enough for 8 foot trees, but containers tip easily, as not as much ballast as larger pots. I like this style of growing. Thanks for posting!

I've been growing for about 10 years, and have always had compliments on my quality, but never really had real big crops. Best was 5 lbs from 4 HPS lights, not bad but not what Don is doing. I was in sales for years and one thing I learned was work smart, not hard. I was a good mimic then, if what you are saying is selling shit, I can do the same. I applied that to what DJM is doing. I copied his shit, same pumps same feeding schedule, but I ran 8 Gavitas, 40 plants in 5 gal pots. CO2 was added and the last and most important piece of the puzzle...VPD. I ran 20 plants with Lucas formula, and 20 with old faithful, H&G. All plants also received Cyco Potash, Cyco Silica, Sweet Raw, H&G Bud XL, and Mother Earth Bloom tea. Every couple of weeks I brewed some Vermicrop tea and hit em with that as well. The end result was 19lbs of straight nugs of Lavender Jones. It was a toss up as far as which side produced more, I think the Lucas side had maybe a 1/2lb more, but the H&G side had more crystals. Thank you DJM for putting this information out for all to have for free. You sir, are a scholar and a gentleman.

Thanks Taxi! I was debating going with 3 gals next time, next batch already in at 5gals. I did reuse my coir this time as well, cutting costs is always nice. 3 gals will become root bound quicker I'm sure, and that is a huge component of feeding DJMs way. I haven't seen jacks/calnit yet, I'll do some more research.

3gals with coco perlite mix, hydroton at bottom, perlite on top to prevent flies. Dtw multi feed 5-6 ft trees with top and side lighting.... Sounds like a serious FTW situation!

Gotta develop the roots but 3 gals are pefect for plant number spacing also...

the nutrients are constantly changing..and honestly I found the nutrients to be less of a factor than any other element in the room..ive ran ionic, aquaflakes, dm gold, floranova, maxibloom, flora series and pbp in coco..can get similar results with them all honestly..choice comes down to ease, consistency and cost..im currently using a water soluble 2 part no name fert..before that gh

i use unfiltered tap and I sit around 800 ppms with base and max out at around 850-900 with bloom boosters

the hanging lights were basement ceiling lights. they are disconnected. no side lighting

hope that helps

can you tell me more about how you start your plants off as seedlings. what do you feed them as far as nutrients or ppms go and when do you increase and by what dosage. love your action shots brotha wow!!! amazing
