CMH vs LED vs HPS

I didnt try any modern strains under leds except Jake's Romulan which was a nice smoke considering it was grown under leds in a much too cold environment.

Mainly strains created 15 years ago and before i tried under hids and leds for comparison.

Maybe modern strains would have fared better under the leds but the old strains just didnt have that WOW factor when grown under just leds.

I dunno also, why people are so pissed when internet troll speculate about tech and stuff is beyond me.

I paid $1000 for these maxishite leds. I hope some of it gets back to R&D

I've just about recovered from the experience.

I've read through most of this thread and since it seems to have calmed down a bit I have some questions lol.
I bought this light which has multiple spectrums including CMH and HPS with IR and UV......my question is, is this comparable to CMH or HPS or is there just no way a LED can produce the right spectrum??
I picked it up on sale for under $200

The fixture has additional far red and uv leds, but I'd say those are names for spectrums and not really replicating anything. You could do any spectrum with leds, but it would not be cost effective as monos are very expensive due to lower demand than white diodes. If you, for any reason, want HID spectrum it makes more sense to use HID. HID will grow just as nice (well maybe almost :p ) bud as LED. It just needs more electricity to do it.

But aren't spectrums just a % of red green blue? If not what would be different? Excuse my ignorance but what is a mono?

Monochromatic like the uv and ir leds on your board vs "full spectrum" whites. The whites are actually blue monos with added phosphors to turn the blue into white light, but this is how they are referred to.

Colour temperature is the % blue and red thing. Spectrum is all the wavelengths the light has. In the pic we have the spectrums of four different colour temp samsung lm301b diodes.

And here we see lm301b compared to the sun and hps. Samsung says it's "sun like" well... I dunno. The spectrums are also capped off at 800 so the sun spectrum just stops abruptly in the pic.

Maybe you guys with your shrivelled dicks thrics just suck at growing.
This opinion is valid as it's grower related aswell, but almost everyone gets it with LEDs, so I came to conclusion it must be something else, I look at strain and seedbank reviews here and Riu, everyone is posting their led grows, HIDs are hard to find, and boy let me tell ya, it ain't pretty.

Led proved that spectrum is not the rabbit hole we all need to look at, spectrum research is useless if not coupled with the matching strength, that's why CMH is having such success in every field (just not yield but thats ppfd related anyways, im sure the old 860w cdm had enough yield for the effort)
Anyways, led can't be hps and hps can't be led, even if you replicate the hps spectrum in LEDs, just too much factors lacking.

leds are small individual chips that release a narrow spectrum of light.

Leds in theory could replicate any spectrum at all.

But like others have said it would be cheaper and better to get a larger point source of light that emitted all these wavelengths simultaneously as each led emits the light downwards in a narrow angle and you would need quite a mix to replicate other light spectrums.

You can grow nice weed with leds but i want outstanding :whee:

The best with your grow @driver77

I look forward to hearing about the different spectrum options with this led.

If you have the time and any pics of resin glands up close i'd love to see some amber heads under leds.

I like me some amber in my meds :rasta: but found getting any under leds rather difficult.

I cant right away because im just about to fill the space, but once im nearing the end ill try to find a way to take clear magnified photos. I am notoriously shitty at that but i will try. I can tell you im confident in finding amber though i wait for some every run.
