oops pic count got me again...
Here it is, the first cut is the deepest:

And olalala, the cuts are not alone anymore!
I got my hands on a couple fem cdb skunk haze seeds from cbd crew/DP, looking good so far, they'll be roommates for a while:

But this just on the side.

I'll give the girls and the secondary shoots a couple more days before throwing on the screen and starting to work their new growth in.

back soon with more, stay safe everyone and keep g(r)oin'

Update day 39

Update day 39

Hi everyone,
Here's a little update.
The girls are fine after I ran into a little nitrogen deficiency a couple days ago.
Ialready thought growth was kinda slow, but didn't think about it too much...
Then left them for 3 days and all the fans had turned yellow, almost falling off. Really not a lot of food in that royal mix I have to say after all. Or I rinsed it too good in the beginning...however I didn't see that coming so early.
What th' heck, now they are getting real bushy and with the fans clipped, the lower shoots are picking up in pace.

picture.php

you see the leafs are light green, some almost pale...
The girls got a good dose of alga grow and are starting to get better already in this pic.
I decided not to rely on the advertised characteristics of the soil and have now also adjusted the ph of the water the girls get to just below 7 ( 6.6-6.9) to prevent any possible ph related nute lockouts. Not taking chances here anymore.
I have to give them a few more days to fully recover, then the screen comes on. veg nute schedule will continue for now.
light is at 18/6 now and I've switched the panel to "full flower"/ all LEDs on, I think I'll just give them as much light as the panel has from now on.
Temps are at 27°C(79f) day and 20°C(68f) night. RH is back up at around 40%.

Here's the whole cab at day 39

picture.php

in the lower "cloning" chamber, the three cuts have finally rooted ( even the tiny one on the lower left side, it was just over 2cm / little less than 1" when I took the cut ) Theywere repotted and are doing good. The three CBD skunk hazes are also picking up. The PL-Ls are on 24h.They also act as a nice heating for the cab.

More in a couple days when the screen comes on!

Hey Stimjoe,
I raised the panel for the pics, so you can see the actresses better !
It sits about 10cm/4" lower normally.

all the best

update day 44 from seed

update day 44 from seed

Hi everyone,
Here's an update.
It's been 44 days since sprouting, here are the ladies:

picture.php

It's slowly getting crowded in there.
As I thought, after the more than necessary feeding, growth kicked in quite a bit if you compare the pics from 5 days ago.

Here's one more without LEDs on:

picture.php

After another feeding today, I defoliated all upper shoots quite a bit. This will slow their growth while the lower shoots with the leaves still on continue to grow up towards the screen.
I'll give them a few days to recover and for the lower still leafy shoots to catch up and then it's time to flip.
No change in temps and rh since last time.
I will do another defoliation run when stretch is over.

picture.php

While I was taking pictures, I figured I'd give you an overview of the back of the cabinet.
I added a fan controller, so I can turn down the fan bit, making the cab completely silent now except for a slight humming that you only hear when you put your ear to the cab.
You can also see the ballast for the LED unit and the PL-Ls as well as the electronic timer/ socket bar. On the upper right is the exhaust port with the sonodec.
Centered at the bottom of the back is the air intake that was covered with mosquito netting, to keep out any wildlife that could get inside and cause problems.

Thanks for stopping by bonzai!
It should become more interesting as flowering progresses!

Usually the organic soil and the organic alga grow fertilizer should be allright without checking PH... well, they were not.
I was getting signs of lockouts due to ph. Adjusted it in my post form 5 days ago. In the end my tap water was already having a really high PH.

Has anyone of you guys ever had to adjust ph of your organic nute feeding ?
Seems a little strange to me, even though it was absolutely necessary...
fyi: my tap water is around 8, and as I said, mixed nutes for feeding were at over 9 and runoff was 8,5.

Yea, but luckily you caught it early bro. Have the same thing with my tap water, it fluctuates between 7.2 to 8.2 which makes mixing up Jutes for my coco girls a pain in the ass. It's the difference of using 10ml ph down to 20 ml ph down in an 80litre rez.

Peace

I have read others growing oranically having to adjust grow nutes but haVe been told it's not necessary with organic teas etc. I knows it's a bit conflicting information. I'm sure others will chime in.

hi chevy,

in general there's no need to adjust the pH when you feed your babes with organic nutrients,
especially if grown in good soil (e.g. biobizz light/all-mix).
the pH-range of nutrient availability in soil is pretty wide for most nutrients compared to the pH-range in hydroponic.
anything betweed 6.5 and 8.0 should work.

anyway in your case you might think about adjusting the pH of your nutrient solution if it's really that high.
did you check if your pH-meter is properly calibrated?
if so then i'd either try to get the pH down by mixing it 1:1 with RO water or using an organic pH- like GHE pH down powder.

hope that helps a bit. fingers-crossed that u get rid of this problem. :)
greets,randa

Thanks Randalika, good info!
I double checked / recalibrated my ph pen plus I verified it with the ph drops from GH to be absolutely sure. My PH is really that high...
I used some PH down to correct it to 7, ever since then the ladeis are looking better.

Next update in the pipeline!

Thanks

Update day 52 from seed/ 4th day into flower

Update day 52 from seed/ 4th day into flower

BongJour my friends,
Here's the next update. day 52 from seed/ 4th day of flower.
That's correct I flipped to 12/12 4 days ago.

The ladies are doing good, screen is filling up.
Here's one with the lights on:

picture.php

lights off:

picture.php

The cab was also blumatized in the meantime, two blumat tropfs are watering it since a week ago. I feed plain water, and every other day the ladies get their dose of alga grow manually. Will switch to alga bloom next week.

temps and rh are still on the same level as last time.
I put some yellow stickies in there, because I spotted a few black gnats. Hope this can keep them from multiplying, they don't lay eggs and I need to bust out the bti.

Stay safe and keep g(r)oin' everyone,

all the best,

cc

Update day 56 from seed/ 8th day of flower

Update day 56 from seed/ 8th day of flower

BongJour again everyone!

The cab has grown into a thicket, I had to stuff the shoots back under the screen twice already. flower day 8 and stretch is in full effect it seems.

picture.php

sadly I cannot let them do their genetically programmed duty and stretch any more, therefore they got a good plucking today.
The shoots already in place where they need to be be got plucked thoroughly, the ones that still need to go a few cm could keep some fan leaves for now.

picture.php

Especially the undergrowth below the screen has now been removed.

I took out quite a good amount of green for better light penetration and better airflow

picture.php

The plan is to further remove the remaining fans when buds start forming and no more growth of the plants is to expect.
They're drinkin up a lot, had to refill the 10L reservoir again.

So far only2 more black gnats spotted, feeding has been switched to alga bloom ( 8ml/2L) and PHd to 7.
Didn't need much PH down, maybe alga bloom is more acidic than alga grow??

temp and rh remain the same ( boy this is as stable as I ever had things !)

Take care everyone, enjoy the holidays and stay safe !

Update from seed day 62/ flower 18

Update from seed day 62/ flower 18

Happy new year everyone!
Hope you had a good start into '14 and welcome to the first opdate of the young year.

Bong your head to this !
It's flower day #18 and the girls have already put out a lot of pistils.

I did another defo run to keep their growth in check, stretch should be pretty much over now.
Hmmm, I might have given them a little too much veg time and I should have been more on my toes training them.
There are a great number of shoots, wish I had separated and trained them into their respective screen openings earlier and better.

Here's the first shot, halfway through plucking:

picture.php

Also, I will have to make a better screen when I go for a scrog the next time.
The thing is too flimsy and will not keep the shoots in place good enough.
See how the string in the front is pulled back by the branches?

Here's another one, a little more distance:

picture.php

The fan has been moved up to above the panel, otherwise the shoots would grow into it.
The panel is now in the highest position possible. The scrubber and sonodec are taking away a ton of headroom, might need to re think this for next time.

The small cloning chamber in the lower compartment is home to clones from all three JFs as well as three CBD skunk haze cuts which are all rooting right now:

picture.php

The blumats work great, was gone for a couple days over the holidays- no problem.
I plan to keep a couple of mothers in this compartment, you can see the feed line for them already in place (it's still blocked off at the end).
I'm growing a clone of every one of the three Jackflash plants into a mother, to be able to get more cuts until I have harvested and test smoked the three from the flower compartment. These will be bonsai moms in 1L pots with blumat auto watering.

finally the ladies after plucking:

picture.php

The pic looks a bit like there are some empty openings in the screen, but there are buds forming on the horizontal branches which will take these spots.

So far the girls are looking good, no signs of deficiencies and/ or pests. After utilizing the BTI, the black gnats have never reappeared.

Here's a shot of the growing pistils and beginning of budding.

picture.php

Rh and temps are still the same, I have installed a heating fan with a thermostat in the room to keep temps up during the nighttime. When the lights are on, temps are slighty higher, just as before.
Alga bloom for nutes every 2-3 days by hand and
tap water with a little drip clean through the blumats.

More coming soon.

Colorado today and the rest of the world tomorrow!
Wait.. Colorado started yesterday, so the rest of the world TODAY!
Take care everyone, stay safe and the show must grow on !
