update on the girls

update on the girls

Hi everyone,
Here's a quick update WITH pics of the girls, just because yesterday's update was a bit dry.
number one and two have recovered and are doing good:
picture.php

Temps have been at 22C/71F at night and 25C/77F during daytime. rh is just below 40%

Here's a close up:
picture.php

That thermometer in the pic is only used to measure rh.

take care everyone & stay safe

update

Hey everyone,
here's an update on the ladies.
Soil got a bit dry so they got their next watering.
still unPHd tap water only.
temps rel. are stable now at 23C/73F maybe 1-2C less at night.
Lights still same distance 20/4, panel in seedling mode.

and here's for an overview once more

Plants are looking good.

How long are you planning on keeping the led in seedling mode?

I'll transplant them into the final container for the rest of the cycle pretty soon.
After they settle in they'll be fimmed, I'd say after the 5th node. after that they'll get time to recover I'd, say another couple days, and then I'll directly flip to 12/12 .
At this point, I'll set the panel to mother/early flowering mode for a week, and after that I'll switch to full flowering.
The nodes are pretty tight on this run, might be becasue of the big amount of blue light they get in seedling mode. Last time I started this strain was under a 250W HPS and node distances were notable bigger ( which was what I expected from a sativa leaning strain).

In the end, my goal is to grow this sativa leaning strain as short bushy as possible to fill out the scrog during stretch.

If you are planning on scrogging, I think you will fill the screen more with a longer veg to train the plant into the screen, than you will with a shorter veg and planning on filling the screen during the flowering stretch.

You could be right blynx, I thought about this a lot.
I'm just a bit worried about the lack of vertical space in my cab.
Did you see the pic of the cab' total interior ? What do you think ?
I grew this strain before and it stretched quite a bit...

If you use the screen efficiently, then you shouldn't have to worry about stretch even with a bit of a veg period.

I've found it easier to start with/grow a larger plant and then stick that under the screen than it is to grow a plant up into a screen and try to train it.

I would veg the plants out, training with lst and/or topping until you can determine sex of the plants. Then, depending on size/branchiness of the females, I'd either veg them a bit more, throw the screen in and change to 12/12, or I'd throw the screen in and change to 12/12.

During the initial stretch for the first couple weeks, just keep weaving the new growth into the screen, then just let her flower out.

If she's so sativa that she keeps stretching through a good portion of flowering, then you can always super-crop/tie-down the growth that is getting too close to the leds.

They're were all feminized seeds, so no need to sex them out, so far so good...
My plan was to fill the screen with the three of them.

Would you still give them more veg time if they're going to be three?

Sorry my mistake, I confused the plants with miawjc3's bagseed grow.

Yea I think I'd still give them more veg time as I'd rather cram larger plants under a screen than try to fill it and have empty spaces throughout the screen. If it ends up being too crowded you can always remove tops/shoots/branches.

Do you have a picture of the screen that you are going to be using?

Are you going to be keeping the plants in separate containers or combining them into one large container?

Hi blynx,
You can see the part of the screen on the lower right corner of this pic:
picture.php

A pretty bad pic, but I don't have another one right now...I'll take a better one tomorrow with the next update.
You can see the frame material isn't very big in diameter, so it doesn't take away much space from the actual screen. The screen is made with poly string and the string is under good tension, not loose.
The screen measures 60cmX40cm (24"X16") and the individual openings are 10cmX10cm (4"X4").
I made it so it fits exactly into the cab's interior. It needs to be pushed in a bit and then stays in place.

imo, the screen grid is way too large. You won't really end up using the screen as a scrog, instead it will maybe provide a little support to the plant stems that grow straight up between them.

Hush encountered the same thing with his recent scrog. While the bud turned out great, you can see the plant doesn't really use the screen to max efficiency and Hush noted this when I questioned whether he considered making the grid smaller.

I'd recommend making the grid 2"x2". A smaller grid will give you more string to train the plants along than a larger grid and I think you'll find it will increase your yield.

You could be right blynx, never went scrog in this small setup.
I'll think about it again...
Good thing is I can always make them smaller, no problem.

Thanks for the feedback buddy

next update

Hi everyone,
Here's the next update.
the plants are doing good
picture.php

here a little closer
picture.php

and here's a closeup of #2, the nodes are not far apart at all, or what do you think ?
(even though the ladies are still so tiny)
picture.php

and finally here's a pic of the screen I' going to use.
As advised by blynx, I'll add some more strings to get smaller openings for easier weaving in of the girls.
I made up my mind, I'll give them more veg than planned, really probably better to fill the screen during veg and then flip instead of flipping and then trying to fill the screen with stretch. Thanks again for the suggestion blynx.

i tried to seal the cuts in the impregnated wood ( got it as is: pressure waterproofed so nothing can settle in) with tape to sort of shield these spots from possible fungi etc... but they came off. Need to figure out something else.
Below you can see the container the ladies are moving into very soon.
A few people argue you can never use one container for more than one plant, and when talking about plants of different strains I can agree. But in my case all the girls are fem. Jackflashs and they will most likely react similarly to what I throw at them. It just gives them more room for roots in the limited space given.

temps are at 24C/75F (day) and 20C/68F ( night), rh is at 38%.

More when I have moved them-pretty soon !

take care everyone and keep groing!

hi chevy,:tiphat:
great setup. i really like to see, how the panel perform inside the MH.

best one:
...
Not sooo much because of the electricity bill, but more because- hey it's the 21st century, right ? It's not like we're heating our caves with open fires in the neanderthal anymore hehehe.

Hey Ceylon,
Hope all is good on your side.
So far it's pretty much alright. Nodes are really close together, great for my very limited amount of space.
All the best,

cc
