Ceramic Metal Halide (CMH)

Awesome that the 775 works on lumatek 750 setting. The 575 on 600 watt setting would be great too. Definitely going to look into the other optons as well.

Not as awesome, but maybe interesting. Yesterday I accidentally put one in a fixture with a 315W cmh ballast and left it running all night. The blue plants in that corner finally tipped me off, and I'm surprised it actually fired. The arc was stable even dimmed that low, and they seem to be very high quality lamps compared to most.

Some work my 315s and 860s did. Used them at different stages of flower. This round was all organic with EJ top dressing. Pollinated the same mother plant with two strains for my crosses.

Dialing in my IBL strains cave monster OG and Chemystry. Dense as golf balls! CMH!

Just got some new reflectors, I prefer specular reflection vs. Diffused reflection. Reworking them to shorten the wire distance between the ballast and lamp for less resistance and to clean up the wiring a bit in the room. I'm going to be putting a 3" axial fan on the top vent. Takes the heat away from the canopy and still get the benefits of an open fixture.

Does that balance ok when hung or do you need a counter weight on the opp side to the ballast ?

@Ericos

Is THIS the same reflector? I've been using an OG with a 400W CMH, and an old Sun System II with the same. It seems as though the much smaller SS II with the horizontal bulb is doing a markedly better job on bud density and size.

That Radiant looks like a nice blend!

Hottish, no counter weighing needed when hung I just use two sungrip hangers and even it out. Now if ur only doing one hanger then counter weighing will be required. The hood only weighs 19#.

Horse, that's the one. I get my gear that I can't get at my shop from growershouse.com in AZ awesome pricing but at my work I only pay 20% above cost/wholesale not msrp :)

I run 860w cmh in two og hoods as well, vertical. I understand how you feel. the og hoods are really needing higher wattage bulbs and a good ceiling height to be effectively used, IMHO. I originally want some more hydrofarm daystar non air cooled hoods, which I've have 2, but that hood is being discontinued so went with the closest alternative. I'm still favoring the Daystar over the radiant but well see.

Long thread, great topic. Has anyone ran the dna lighting solutions cmh bulb? I see some mentioning the og hoods, which I do not like. But the bulb they were marketing as a duo with those hoods looked to have a very nice spectrum. Thanks

Nanometer and color are effectively the same thing - the wavelength of the light determines the color that we perceive. If the scale was the same in both images, the peaks from each lamp would be at different levels, but the colors would overlap precisely.

Going back to the whole "waste of money quote." I have been running 945w of the 315w Agro's spread out across a 10x6 ft area and yielded 2lbs of grape stomper. They finished fast, had no deficiencies and were denser than anything I've ever seen before. So far, the elite agro's are hands down the best light under the sun so far. Maybe LEDs will eventually catch up, but for now the competition is in the bag. One 315w bulb alone is not enough for more than a 4 x 4 ft area along with reflective walls. Out in the open a 315w really only effectively does a 3x3 area, but the results are incredible. This isn't my opinion, it's straight up 20 years of practice and expertise fact. And as far as expense goes......wtf? The bulbs have a 50,000 hour life span and if you get the RIGHT digital ballast (not the Phillips one) the ballast has a rating of 100,000 hours. I can't say names, but it doesn't come from GEL. Fuck GEL. For real. They outsource their ballasts and don't know shit about how to program them and have no clue on the technical specs of the product that all they do is slap their own sticker over th
German one. The right digi ballasts ARE made in Germany, but they need to be programmed correctly to get the lamps to run for 50,000 hours. Also, since the 315w isn't as hot as an HPS, you can get your plants to touch the glass of your reflector if it's air cooled and with no light burn at all. So that's the idea. Move them closer and you'll start to see what the hype is all about dude.

hey guys, been very interested with this thread for the past year, I convinced a company I work with to do a sample run of CMH 315W products

You can see the full kit here for $400
http://greenleafnutrients.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=11&products_id=42

They are going to run an introduction forum only special for $300 price for full kit (including bulb). USA 48 states only, cash/bitcoin only. If you are interested email company or PM.

This is Welthink brand ballast, which is good quality and can run 120-240V both and needs no extra wiring.

I like they're using Welthink! However, I don't like this trend toward non-remote ballast, unless growers like greater heat load in the grow room (which I don't, for sure).

I would suggest asking them to offer a version with remote ballast, as that Welthink can be operated a far distance from the lamp, greater than 20'.

RFI has killed many a grow, I think.

Interesting point. But I'm not so sure; RF interference was a problem for some ballasts but not such much any more. I don't think the Welthink ballast would be an issue in terms of RF.

Just realized I was thinking about the Gel "CeramaTek" ballast, not the Welthink. If that luminaire came with the Gel ballast I would be really impressed at that price. The Welthink may have RF issues, I have no idea, though I doubt the Gel would.

The Welthink is nice because it runs on 120V, but that's about the only benefit to the Welthink vs. the Philips e-Vision ballast or the Gel CeramaTek ballast.

SunPlix ceramic metal halide ballast?

SunPlix ceramic metal halide ballast?

Did anyone here use SunPlix 315W and 330W LEC ballasts?
I visited a trade show in LA this summer and this company showed their dimmable 315W and 330W CMH ballasts. They said their ballasts have patent and have the following advantages:
The ballasts can work on 120V, 208V, 240V and 277V. The 315W ballast outputs 350W, 315W, 270W and 210W light, the 330W ballast outputs 400W, 375W, 330W and 250W light. The ballasts are UL/CUL and FCC certified. The ballasts also work with HPS/MH bulbs.
The big difference between SunPlix ballast and other brand ballasts is that their ballasts can extend lifetime of a bulb to more than 10 years! If that is true, it will save a lot money.
I want to try their ballasts. If someone used their ballasts before, please share your experience with me.
I am a fun of CMH technology and have tried many CMH ballasts. I want to use the best one.
