If you want to use an existing reflector, just swap out the sockets. I'm using the Bell Lighting 600MV hoods, and they work great with the 315. The lamp is almost perfectly centered in the hood when installed.

Seriously. This thread is full of great information that is absolutely necessary for making a CMH/Ballast/Reflector purchase. However it is a nightmare to have to read thru this mess. I'm sure someone who is knowledge would be able to consolidate this thread into 1 post, making it much easier for people trying to figure out what they need to buy and from where it is available.

They're just tweaking/deciding on a minor "switch". Shouldn't be too long of a wait. If you want details you can call the number on site.
DNA has a nice little 330w 120v electric ballast, socket, and bulb kit for $380. I'm just going to wait for the advancedtech ballast.

Why worry. He points out that a 1500W step up transformer will easily run 4 ballasts, and is about 40$. I think he includes it for the 220$, right?

habeeb measures less than 2% PAR loss for a sheet of glass. So I am back to thinking about the T9. Something like the SS2 with glass, and the T9 bulbs for 10% more light efficiency (-2% overall).
Critiques?
I really wish I could DIY a 4 sided parabolic vertical fixture with that 98% reflective aluminum and passive cooling vents. Single stamped sheet you bend tabs up and bolt the 4 together. Buy a sheet of tempered glass locally. Cheap to ship flat. One part so cheap stamping. Do a group buy... Perhaps add a PGZ socket

I do remember him telling me about wires getting hot, maybe that's the reason. And/or it's a cheaper option.

why not just get the ATL 220$ kit and buy you fave reflector and save 100$?
That is a pretty intriguing fixture. There are a couple of people that I know of on here using it with good success - it would be very interesting to map the consistency of the light output over it's footprint. The vertical lamp orientation should give it a marked advantage in an even light distribution.
I'm going to call growers house. They do some awesome reviews, and I'm sure they can give me every PAR reading with that fixture. I agree with a vertical hood advantage over horizontal.
I really want the 120v kit they're 'working on'. I'm selling my 860w, so I need something ASAP. I'm still waiting on a reply from them. I don't want to go the step up transformer route, when the 120v kit will be a comparable price.

Ya. But could one not just have a local tin basher cut up some tin trapezoids and glue Mylar over them, and get pretty much the same thing?
A couple of things to bear in mind with that fixture is that, since it is open, you cannot use the T9 (single-jacket) lamps in it and you don't have the capacity to duct the heat out directly.
Good point. I wouldn't mind a T12 at all tho. Heat won't be much of an issue with that fixture and bulb.

that should support 4, or 5 if you push it.
And then just get as many ballast kits as you want from tom, and his ballast and bulb combo price is still great. Also he has the PGX bulbs, but don't tell him I told you.
They design these hoods for optimum and even light distribution. Look at the OG and Luxor hood reviews.

I am not saying they have not been designed well, I just don't think there is much to designing them well.
Also i Don't like the ballast built into the fixture, as its not supposed to get over 85C
