I'm a big big fan of the CMH lamps, but what these guys are saying is not really true.
The Philips CMH 315W GreenPower (what used to be the Agro) has 600 micromol/s (what he calls grow-lumens). Efficiency: 1.90 micromol/W (on only the lamp!)
A 600W GreenPower HPS lamp has 1190 micromol/s.... This is more than 600. Efficiency: 1.98 micromol/W (on only the lamp!)
So 2x growlumens and 50% less energy is no true.
They have about the same efficiency, but the CMH has 50% of the light and 50% of the energy.

i keep seeing posts indicating UV a & b are "beneficial" light spectrums. I'm still learning so i'm not stating this question in any hostile fashion, i simply want to know, do you have any basis for that stmt? - when i researched it using my best google fu, i found some university studies indicating in general UV light is not beneficial BUT there was some suspicion that UV light prompted some species (and even sometimes only in some strains within certain species) to producing a protein that was also associated with flowering & reproduction. But even in the strains identified as exhibiting enhanced protein production, the UV exposure was found to be detrimental if the plant was exposed for more than 15 minutes per hour
just asking as i'm still learning and have a long way up this learning curve

the rep told me it was comprable to a 1000w or 600w.... anyone with experiece with this bulb know the square footage spread of light?
also the rep told me that unlike hps & mh bulbs that create a donut shape of usable light, the argo creates a globe of light.... would be extra helpful for growing with vertical bulbs, plants would thrive even directly beneath the bulb, not just out the sides; hypothetically.

The spread with a Cycloptics luminair works well over a 3x3 table,
but multiple lights work better over a larger area.
just picked up a tester model from boulderlamp, one bulb in a hood, with ballast attatched above the hood, will post pics and prolly start a thread about, post link here with some pics.

Sounds fine, AM, my mistake. The picture with the hood turned vertically looks like the wires have nothing to keep them from being abraded where they leave the ballast housing.

Im gonna guess that they will retail around $500 to 350$ depending on features, not sure about those numbers tho.
good lookin rives, thanks for your input and concern, the unit seems pretty well made, no open holes with wires running into them, there are thick rubber grommets (black) on all holes to secure wiring.
hung the lamp today, got some clones underneath it.

can anyone tell me the difference with these bulbs, HERE, compared to the 930 / 942 ?
I'm wondering what the difference is? spectrum? life? ... ?
planning to put a CDM in a gavita reflector, and not sure I can convert the mogul to the PGZ socket, so I might consider this option, if I know what these bulbs are all about..

I'm reasonably sure that those are the same lamps, just in a different envelope to utilize the Edison screw-base rather than the European PGZ version. I've been toying with the notion of getting one of the 210w versions to try vegging with.

Rives, I'm with you.. I am thinking they put it in a different package.. obviously a little different as the glass envelope from first glance, but they seemed the same to me too.. I also just wonder there graph , as it looks like they don't sell the 930, just the 942??? just wondering as I want a veg bulb anyways.
vegging with my 315 watt, 942 is AMAZING!!! so amazing I'm thinking of letting go of the LED and switching over for now... until we get higher lumen per watt that is.. I haven't fully tested a "set" as I threw some baby plants I had in a tent I was bushing a plant, and the babies blew up!!! even at my PAR was showing 500 on the babies, I wonder what higher levels would be.
I would say comfortably.. do it. you might not get the tightest nodes coming from LED, as there blue just does something, but a plug and play system, it wins hands down. this is also no experience with clones on the system though... you might get tighter nodes if i remember, been a while....
