Avinash.miles - curious, which bulb are you using, & what distance are you maintaining from the canopy and what size footprint at that distance?

tks

phillips 315w agro bulb
anywhere from 6 to 24 inches from the bulb, generally about 15 inches or so.
footprint is about 3.5 feet x 3.5 feet

942?
???

thanks rives

EDIT: was this thread always a sticky? or did it just become one?

I was wondering if you were using the 942 lamp (4200k) for vegging, or if it was the 930 (3000k). For whatever reason, Philips puts a "9" in front of their color designation. I need to get a 942 and try it out...

I think that it's been a sticky for a long time.

Elite Agro 315w CMH grow - day 42 flower

Elite Agro 315w CMH grow - day 42 flower

Day 42 of flower under (2) 315w vert bulb open fixtures growing 3 plants scrog in a 4x3 area of a 4x4 tent. Plants are putting on serious dense bulk. The purple Tora Bora is really resinous. I grew the other two plants in similar conditions except for under LEDs.... I will definitely yield more this time, gonna be fun to see how much more.

FYI - just spoke to Bolder and they've got two models available ready for ship, a single bulb and a dual bulb lamp, single bulb unit is $549 and double bulb is $849

spoke to Anton, seemed like a nice guy, - he indicated that they found the single bulb equals about 80% of the PAR from a 1000W HPS bulb and the double bulb unit 160%

that 80% PAR value of a 1000W HPS bulb is an impressive number for a 315W bulb

As far as coverage, the 315 = 600. As far as outcome the 315 seems to be at least 20% more and higher quality.

It's funny, my local grow buddies are getting my bud, opposed to them smoking their own.
I'm having to fight to be able to keep some for myself. ;-)

I thought that some of you might be interested to see my latest effort. This is day 21 of 12/12 under a single 315w 930 (not the Agro version), (5) Purple Crack ladies in a 48" tent. They were a bit underfed but getting over it. This is a little different style for me, usually I try and optimize fewer plants but decided to try more plants and prune a little heavier up front. We'll see......

Rives I went on boulder grow lights website, it looks like their unit comes with the 930 quote: color rendering 3100k

The more photos i see, taken under a cmh lamp, the more i remember what you said sometime back about the cmh giving so natural a light - i know a good bit of how well a picture shows up is the color balance, but i'm talking photos from a number of different posters showing up looking natural the way your shot does. Whether your's, Avashin.miles or BubbaEngineer's, they all look "color balanced". I have no idea if everyone had their color balance set to auto - but the photos all look like they were taken under natural lighting.

thanks for the pix

The color was one of the big reasons that I got involved with these lamps - I enjoy spending time with my plants, and my damn LEDs always made me feel like I was visiting Mars. I really enjoy building up LED-based fixtures, but trying to chase the curve on the technological advances gets pretty damn expensive if you are trying to make a professional-level package with them. I had planned on upgrading my hybrid fixture with white LEDs in place of the PL-L lamps, and it was going to cost a hell of a lot more than what it cost to put together (3) 315s.

The really pleasant surprise was how much better the 315s worked - I still haven't found what they are truly capable of. I was very happy with the yields that I had been getting before, but there is simply no comparison. My last round was very close to 1gpw with 2 plants under a single 315, and as I said up above somewhere, there was easily room for 1 more similarly-sized plant or 2 that had been trimmed up a bit. Pretty incredible difference for not having changed anything but the lighting.

was that the first time you've hit or come close to that 1gpw yield?

and i'd already decided against LEDs for a number of reasons, but the cartoonish color tint dissuades me from viewing them on screen, i know i wouldn't be any happier with them in person. Kind of a subjective reason but that and the technology seeming to advance every 6 weeks and the cost
