Ceramic Metal Halide (CMH)

How do you guys think the 400w would work in an older hardwood television stand? It measures 34"x20"x48"H externally.

Is this too small do you think? I'll have plenty of ventilation and my ambients are around 68F-72F year round, if not lower.

You would probably get a lot more g/W with a 250, as 400 might be a little overkill for that space. But if you can keep it cool then why not? The extra yield compared to a 250 will probably still be worth the power bill. You don't have much height though, so I think aircooled lights are a must.

Aircooling probably won't be a real option.

I bet I could do a 4 or 6 plant SCROG in there pretty easy though, that will keep the height from being an issue. Maybe even a halfpipe scrog...

Hmm...

This cabinet will fit where I want it to and be stealthy...

Hmm...

I am making an exhausted hood for the light. It's going to have two fans sucking air from the bottom out of the top. It won't be aircooled but this will keep the heat under control I think so long as my exhaust fan can keep up.

Well I think you could get the 400 and it should be no problem as long as you have good exhaust for the cab as a whole. especially since you stated that you will have fans sucking the hot air off the bulb. I have about the same space as you for growing and all I have is a high CFM CPU fan hooked in to a DIY cool tube. works great!
I would not try to get 6 plants in there however everytime I did it just got way to over grown. See the link to my cab in my sig.

Cool thanks man I'll check it out in a few minutes.

I've got a Bake-A-Round I could make a cooltube out of if I absolutely have to.

I've decided to try to find a larger cabinet rather than the one I posted. Maybe something around 3'x2'x5'H.

Thought that I would throw in some pics of day 18/19 of 12/12. On the left are two Johnny Blaze clones. In the middle are two Willijuanas (Vietnamese Black X Highland nepalese). On the right are two little (but WAY potent Johnny Blaze clones) and then the ugly duckling; my last and not happy (been abused!) AsiaGirl X Nl5Haze. Nice tight plants with all the sativa genes in there eh.

I could go a little lower on the lights but with 800w in 6sq ft it is not needed and with the sativa backgrounds involved I get nervous as I am going away for almost 4days.

Oh yeah I found my other 400w horizontals and replaced the 400w vert that went. It was 2-3yrs old and had been going horiz for 18mos. I had a horticrapper in there for a couple of days while searching for my other box of bulbs. Boy do I have a lot of useless bulbs. 430w SonAgro, 3 400w (almost never used) Horticrappers, 250w & 4002 halides of varying styles/brands.

Not to mention my good 250w cmh selection. Currently not used.

Your plants look really good Az!

Hey, I've figured out a way to use my closet for a grow. It's about 3' x 3.5' x 7.5'H and I was planning on pulling about 200CFM through it. Do you think that is sufficient? That seemed like a safe bet.

I started some seeds about 3 weeks ago. I put them under a cfl for the first 2 and just up-canned 10 days ago, and placed them under the 250 watt cmh (first time I have used one). I have them bent over (lst) and I can not believe how f-ing healthy they are and the super tight internodes. Like nothing I have seen before, even better then the eye blue I used before. I'm experimenting with Fimming and prunning as well so when they show sex (I run 17/7) I will make the females moms and then take cuttings for a sog. I'm looking at about 6 weeks before my sog will be ready and will post pics and results. I have a dual light hood and when I'm ready I will add the 400 cmh that is waiting in the wings. I will run this sog with 650 watts-all cmh with a mover in a room that measures 72 inches long, 19 inches wide and 8 feet tall. I'm hoping to fill the room with thirty, one gal bags with a veg time of one week to 10 days max. I want the plants to be no bigger then 18 inches.
Wish me luck

Thank you. The girls are usually good to me. That sickly looking clone on the far right was taken late in flower from a plant this summer. I have been working that plant (clones of one girl) for a couple years now I think. That is the only sick plant I have ever had in many years at this. Just good Luck I guess. The two little JohnnyBlaze clones on the right were taken at like day 40 12/12 from a mom that only went 65. I put them in there as runts as soon as they did the funky single blade re-veg thing that my reveggers allways do. So they did not get the veg time that the others did. I have clones of everything in there except the sickly AsiaGirl X NL5xHaze. I will miss her if she goes, but oh well. The coco based they are in is so diverse I could spend a long time listing what is in there and not get it all down.
You will do well with the 400w in that space and 200cfm should get you running just fine.

They grow tight under the CMH. No joke there. I think your plan sounds good. I have had amazing results with the 250w CMH bulbs before. Best of luck and keep us posted please!!!!

Nice link. I think that it gives good insight to why we are getting great growth characteristics with the CMH as they more similar to the Iwasaki than to any other. Again folks as good as the CMH is you can't hurt anything by adding a nice 10k aquarium bulb as Lermer and I do. The last 3wks are key for that.

For any of you reading through that most recent link; Did you notice how they refference the substantial blocking of UV by the simax brocillite(sp?) glass that makes the bulbs outer shell? That is the same if not higher quality glass that cool tube manufacturers use. If you are lucky an air cooled hood may have that type of glass (may have cheaper most likely). That is why I do not like glass. The bake around pieces have simax but, it is not made with our uses in mind so it is worse.IMHO

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!! :muahaha:

High! from Japan

High! from Japan

I'm using CMH from EYE Iwasaki Electric http://www.eye.co.jp
It's 360 watt, 41400 lumen, 4100k, 80ra with 15000hrs of life.
The spectrum chart...

Is my Japanese CMH as good as one you use?
Is it same thing this thread deal with? just in case to make sure...

kansha! Thank you!

Another great link concerning light output Os, thanks.

This makes me more concerned about my planned cool tube. I recently found the *perfect* cab for my 250 CMH. 24"w 18"d 54"T. While i would love to get all of the spectrum out of this bulb that i can, a cool tube is the only way to go if I'm going to have my carbon filter inside of the cab too. Ill be using a candle shade for mine. Cool tube:

Wal-mart gets the cab in stock on the 10th, pics will come :muahaha:

I have been trying to source that bulb here in the U.S.

I have a friend that can special order them wholesale at a very large price. I can not justify it at the price. That being said, I am envious as I would love to have a couple.
