The fan is in the UHaul box it is a 350cfm(or so) 6" in-line. It sits on a bed of foam board that I cut a 6" hole in. I have to admitt that the general construction is not to my ususall standards. The whole thing was done in one night. The carbon filter is DIY and works as well as any store bought. The fan could be squeezed inside if needed.

I do not want to highjack this thread, but in the effort to display what kind of growth a healthy grow can bring under the CMH well.........A pic or many from tonight.
You can see some seaweed staining from when I mist and water through. Almost time to stop the misting and watering through though. A few more pics to come.

I spared you folks the pics of the smaller Johnny Blaze but, it has taken off as well. Just a tea of EWC, Molasses, seaweed and cannazym in the last 2 1/2weeks.

i'm about to recieve (4) of the Aqualine Buschke 10000K MH bulbs and (2) of the Iwasaki 6500K....according to that study from the link I posted they put out a good amount of UV...I'll be the one to take one for the team and let everyone know how it goes.....Right now I'm running (2) of the Philips CMH 400 Watt..when I get the Bulbs I'll be at the start of week 3...I'm thinking mix in the Iwasaki until what point should I toss in the 10K's at?

the black Soot (that wipes off) is not a concern..
the base of the envelopes are silver frosted in aperance
the screw base is Full BRASS, no plating or Silver base in Production (yes there are Philips Photos with silver base but again not in production)
how to tell if the bulb is USED.. if the arc tube has blackened or darkened arc tube ends.. (not the yellowish ting we see (cause ours are new)
also when they are new most will have visable salts (yellow balls floating in the arc tube) wich get super small as time goes on..
ya a 250 cmh vs 150 hps the cmh will be hotter..
if you compare watt for watt hps vs cmh the cmh will be cooler..
ya mpl touching the lamp is not recommended however.. if its got a breze on it it will be cooler to touch than HPS>. hps you cant touch a 400 no mater how much cooling is on it (in comparison)like in my photos of me grasping the tip of the 400 cmh i couldn't do that if it where HPS (IE if i took the cmh out and put in HPS no way could i touch it, well could but burn.. )
it goes back more towards cmh doesn't heat the room like HPS from Throwing the heat

Here are the little JB clones and the AsiaGirlXNL5Haze girl. These are picking up as well!
Notice the little runt in there. Poor thing an extra when making clones one day and I can't remember which willijuana it came from. So, I poked a hole in the ground and a month later I keep moving it out of the shade. It has like 3 little roots growing.

Problem with new 400 watt cmh bulb. I have a 400 watt switchable ballast. The 400 watt hps bulb fires up fine. I switch over to the mh and the 400 watt eye blue fires up fine. I switch back to the hps, install the 400 watt cmh and the arc tube looks like it's trying revive frankenstein.
I also have a 250 watt hps and the cmh works great in that.
Any clues?

Weak ignitor. The CMH takes a bit more of a kick to fire than the HPS.
Does the 400w CMH come to full go after a minute or two? Most if not all get the strike from the ignitor and then work from a blueish corona to full fire. A bit more when they are newer.

Most HPS factory ignitors are designed to fire HPS bulbs within 3ft of wire. I know most of us go longer. I believe that there are optional ignitors for applications like ours. Any way, those switchable ballasts have a swtich that cuts out the ignitor for halide function. There could be a weak link there. Like a non KV/pulse 600v rated switch.

I tried it again and still no go. The arc tube has what looks like lightning circulating in it. My cord is 6 feet long as well. At least I still have the eye blue.

I feel ya greenisgold...I went in last night to find my CMH had putz'd out all together. No glow, no nada. It had been on when the grow shut down the previous night.
New ballast too...I tossed a 430 Agrosun in the socket to check, it fired up no problems.
Grrrrr....doing returns through the mail is a such a drag!

In regards to adding a 10k, I read a few years ago on another board where a few growers were adding a 400 watt 10K to their grows (800 watts altogether-1, 400 watt hps, 1, 400 watt mh). They would pull the 400 watt hps and add the 10k. BUT they did it for that last 10 days max, but most did it for only 7 days. AND they increased the light from 12/12 to 24/0. I saw their grows and they were pretty frickn amazing. I mean the last week of growth was out of this world.
