Note the difference in size between the Mango and the Master Kush in the first pic...that's what's gonna be going on in your 400 strain grow pretty damn soon... be prepared for the jungle boogie 'cause that's what you're gonna be doing trying to get the canopy even
All of the plants have sexed, and though it pains me to say so, the Puna Budder is a male with impressive attributes I have to see if i can find a spot in my house where I can collect the pollen without risking it getting into the grow, but that's a tough one, my apartment has a rather strange layout and I don't have areas which I can keep closed without having to pass through. Hmmmmm He's not going to get chopped until I find a solution to collect his pollen, though....I fought too hard to get one damn seed germed and grown to just throw it all away dammit!
So to sum it up, in the grow we have 3 female Mangos and one LUI.
Here's a couple of pics of the Puna Moose male:
And a couple of pics of the garden. The mangos underwent some major training right after the pics were taken...they are huge! The LUI obviously is front foreground  stocky little indica....I trained it and am curious to see how she does. My friend Cannaddicto was unimpressed by the yeild of the LUI.
I am also more or less set with the lineup for my next grow in September . This morning I found a pack of DJ Shorts newest release, Mountain Jam, in my mailbox! Oh joy! Thanks to Red of Legends Seeds who provided me with these beans to test out.
DJ Short's description of Mountain Jam:
The Cannabis Cowboy Collective has been developing and collecting elite strains and hybrids since they migrated to the West Coast in the early 90's. The SoulShine has become their flagship sensimilla flower for overall odor, taste, beauty, ease of growth, quality of high and of course yield. It has a multi-angled branching pattern that seems to balance the arms so that the massive tops and tips can almost support their plumpness without assistance. Once turned to a flowering cycle, these beauties will double in size and the arm tops will be ready for a colorful harvest at 53-58 days. With proper techniques, two more harvests 3-5 days apart and you will be amazed at how much ripening will happen on the middles and bottoms, turning the calyxes into little purple candy canes. They have crossed her with DJ Shorts selected Blueberry male, which should give a reminiscent smell of grapefruits, overripe mango and wild blueberries when finished
So the September line-up should include:
Mountain Jam - DJ Short
Sour Cali - Swan Song Seeds (breeder zeppelindood, my friend :smile
Blue Moon Rocks - BOG
possibly also Superfruit x Blueberry - Kryptonite Seeds (breeder Capt. Crip, another friend :smile
and/or
Sour Deisel 2.5 - Reservoir Seeds
HOG...it's a boy  we'll just collect some pollen
Elvis, excuse the stupid question....but if I leave the plant with a garbage bag over it how's it gonna get any light? I removed it from the grow, but he's just now starting to flower, gonna be awhile IMO....but I'll be damned if I know from one day to the next whether it'll drop pollen or not How do you swing that?
Nice jungle Blue...looking great...Sorry to hear that Puna turned out to be a male, damn!! Your september line-up sounds interesting, especially MountainJam, DJShort's creations have always been excellent!!
It's a jungle in there Blue. Can't wait for the flower show to begin Yes I wish someone like JLP, ZEP or anyone would do a thread on how they isolate their males and collect pollen, I am interested in making my own F2's of the strains I like the most.
I cant wait to see what your mangoes taste like!
no....that doesnt sound right does it?
You know what i mean though!
Good ol LUI, im glad you have 4 girls to get some good harvest from my friend!
Those Mango girls tower over the LUI!
Sorry to hear about the big balled moose!!
When i collected pollen from my male deep chunk, i managed to leave him in with the others as per normal and just kept an eye on the sacs...once they start to fan out like beetle wings they are about to pop...i took him out as soon as i noticed them and he continues dropping pollen even though he was kept in the dark for days on end...
Im sure everybody does it differently though..
I cant wait for your september grow, i wish you hadnt told us about it, we have to wait 6 months for it now! Oh the anticipation, its the only thing about growing MJ that really drives me nuts lol
Elvis, the garbage bag thing had me perplexed 'cause they don't sell transparent garbage bags here. I'll find something to substitute the garbage bags...maybe one of those garment bags that are used for storing clothing....hmmmmmm
Budgrinder thanks, I also am very much looking forward to trying out this Mountain Jam, sounds good enough to eat!
Mo, I reckon we could ask them to do a thread on pollen collection? We do have friends in high places ...think I'll shoot some pm's
Leeroy thanks sweetie, I have made F2s of my Blueblood plants, but was so worried about pollinating everything else in the grow that I brushed the pollen on only one small bud (which I then put in with all the others, stoner that I am) with the result of only 6 seeds found. I removed the Puna from the grow because of shade issues (Mango Mommas....big ones!) and he may take longer to produce pollen, but sooner or later he'll do his thang anyway! He's a healthy one, I wonder if the mutations will carry? He grew out of it partially, and if he hadn't been mutant I'd consider him a prize stud, very nice with lots of branching and short node distance.
anticipation and patience...two killer sources of anxiety for any grower
Hey There, Blue! The grow is going great!! Sorry to hear about the Puna. I know you worked your ass off to get that thing to where it is now. Instead of a clear garbage bag over the plant to collect pollen, how about using a clear plastic drop cloth like painters use? They are available at any paint store or hardware store for a couple of bucks. They are a bit larger than you need so you could cut it down in size but I think would accomplish the same thing. Just a suggestion. Looks great, love!!
Hell yeah HOG, couldn't let all that TLC go to waste, and from what I hear the Puna Budder is some damn special smoke, so worth the trouble IMO.
I could create a Puna Deisel, PunaBudder & Jam (LOL), CaliPuna, Puna MoonRocks or SuperPuna BlueFruit ...pollinate one bud of every female in my next grow hehehehehe
Thanks for the tip Rellik, I thought about that myself...still have some time to investigate the possibilities, the Puna Moose is very slow to flower. I think all of my plants are a bit behind in starting flower though, must've been the last shot of nitrogen I gave them a week before going 12/12. Today they're at 11 days 12/12.
Puna Diesel sounds nice but what about Diesel Butta. Lol. Your doing great. How ya been? Just wanted to drop in an say hello. Stop by my grow and check it out. Their comin' along nicely. Later OH
