Bubble Buckets a Cheap Alternative to Bubble Bags Pic by Pic

oh and lastly....
you can alway set aside your mixed water at the end and let whatever trichnomes are in it settle to the bottom as the old "jar" method allowed....

a few hours later... you can carefully laddle off the top 90% of that water... then move whats left into a smaller sized container and repeat...

eventually... you end up with WHATEVER hash was in the bottom... after all the water gets removed down to the point where the last of the last simple evaporates...

now that the hash is dried the color isnt bad but I really think a hand electric mixer makes a contaminated mix and to use just a wooden spoon I would think would leave a lot of trikes behind even with 3 or4 runs so I thought Id get you guys thoughts bout using a concreate viberator for this process, since i saved so much by using the buckets VS buying bubble bags i wouldnt mind spending $80.00 for a vibrator if ya think it might do a better job. so what ya think?

the spoon works fine....
or use a hand potato masher...

do your second run after EITHER of these and you will see its got next to nothing in it...

this will forever placate the misgiving you have now....

betterboy - I just know your next run will be much better. Between your list, and ben ttech's suggestions, you should be off and running.

Best of luck

Hi all
ok, got a quick question....
which is a better material for the purpose, nylon, polypropylene, or polyester mesh?

what material is used for bubblebags anyway?

Thanks,
Beans

the bags use polymesh!!

as to those others you mention...um...
ive no idea....

i wanted to simple duplicate the bags SO i went straight to silkscreen vendors and never got asked anything more than if i minded the twill weave instead of plain... [TW or PW ] figured hed dont the math and this was the best...

plus its the credibility too...

i READ twill is better for filtering... ok... [ you get both anyway often... cuz you DONT want to come back! :D ]

do the others kinds of screen come in grades comperable to those you will need for the final extractions???

it really great that several guys are making this...
but all these readers have something to do too...

look ALL YOU READERS!!!
these guys smacking this together firstly are spending WAY TO MUCH FOR SCREEN... cuz the VENDORS who SERVICE THIS SPORT... aint jumping up to do this...

SO... for some time to come...
anyone with about $150.00 buckscan go buy a yard of the six finest screens that THE BAGS all use... screw the 220....

now rip em into 9 squares... DO A NICE JOB PLEASE...

now go sit in the fucking park...

at $10.50 cents you break even....
at $21.00 you DOUBLE YOUR MONEY...

for using the phone, a take measure, a sharpie, and 6 hours you had laying around...

get it?!?!?!?!

chop chop!!!!

Just thought I'd let everyone know that I did my first bucket run today and it rocked. Rediculously easy, no problems whatsoever and ended up with a bunch of golden goodness. I used a 220ish, 195, 120, 79, 57 and 27 micron screen set.. the 220 and 195 didnt give me anything but the filter.. Next time I doubt i'll even bother with the 220.. 120 gave me a small amount, 79. 57 and 27 all gave what I consider a fair amount considering what pics I've seen (this was my first attempt ever at any type of hash).. I'll take a pic of it on the cardboard when I get back to the area tomorrow, I wasn't planning on doing it today and hadn't brought my camera over.. But I was totally thrilled with how easy and succesful it was.

All golden and creamy looking, no green.. 5 gallon buckets, 1 and 3/4 1-gallon ziplocks with 90% fresh popcorn nugs and 10% dried leaf/popcorn nugs from a year ago that had been sitting and a closet.. Froze the screen and got the 'loogies'.. first couple screens I didn't freeze it long enough (maybe 10 minutes?) and that was a pain to get off.. give it 30 mins or so and it's much easier..
Sitting on cardboard now..
18x18 screens worked very well
My 14x14(27 mic test screen) worked but an 18x18 gives you MUCH more leeway.

Another thing that REALLY helped with the mating of the two half buckets is I used an orbital sander and on the bottom half-bucket and sanded down the inside-top to a bevel-like edge and on the top half bucket I sanded the outside edges to a bevel. It made slipping the two together SO easy there was never a time I was like "COME ON YOU SON OF A BITCH FIT IN THERE, ALREADY!". When I was just fooling around with them before I actually did a run that was my biggest concern... I was having problems mating the two even without a screen.. But the orbital rocked the buckets.

I used a belt sander on mine but all i did was to clean up the edges sisnce i used a saw zall to cut the buckets.
I also made another batch today, BIG differance,I didnt use a electric mixer at all, I just used a hand potato masher like ben suggested and it worked great, the 79 and 57 is just a mass of trikes, even the 120 dont look bad very little contamination. Im using a 30X scope to check these out with. I think i used to much ice though, took 4 hours for all the ice to melt, but actual labor time it took bout an hour, thats clean up and all.

Ha I wasn't quite sure what to do with the ice so I just hand-scooped it out and started filtering.... I didnt know if it was supposed to all melt or what.. talk about cold f'ing fingers. I did a 10-11 minute mix with a wooden spoon and a beer, then a 2-3 minute mix with a mixer on low-med and I didn't see any traces of contams whatsoever..When using a scope what are you looking for? All I know is I have nothing green and it's all a nice beige creamy looking color with absolutely no green particulate anywhere so I can only assume I was succesful.. Funny thing is now I'm not quite sure what to do with it.. It's sitting on cardboard on a table with a ceiling fan blowing down on it.. I figured I'd read up a bit and go back tomorrow and figure out what to do next.. Any suggestions?

Also, between filterings I put the 5 gal bucket in my freezer for like 15 mins.. I don't even know if it was necessary but smily was talking about doing his between runs so I figured I might as well too.. Is this necessary?

i found that when my overlap was less than an inch... to halfs were much harder to fit togeher that when the lap was 1 1/2 inch...

the greater the lap distance... the greater difference between the two 'rings' your mating... easier.

as for cold water...
now your asking about the artist side of it i figure...
the colder the water the more brittle the gland stalks are supposed to be...but then i also hear the ice helps grind at it a bit more... blah blah blah...

theres dozens of threads on THOSE details...
i cant help any more there...

i used a small block plane to straighten out the bottom cut and then those bevels like you mentioned...

Hey folks.. Went back tonight and checked out the drying goodness.. I think I might have done something slightly wrong.. Question.. how long should I keep the piles on the cardboard after I initially put it there? I left it on there and found that it really liked sticking to the cardboard.. a razor blade got 99% of it off but on one pile I kind snagged a bit of cardboard with it too.. Made me think I was supposed to remove it much earlier because it was quite a pain in the ass to carefully scrape without taking cardboard with it..

Thanks

you sound very patient...
i suspected no one else could actually walk away for the duration and had therefore moved their piles around several times during that period you were away...

I wonder if using a piece of kitchen parchment paper (I use it to bake cookies -it's available at grocery stores) or wax paper under the gooey goodness would help. You'd put parchment over cardboard, then gooey goodness. Might make it easier to remove.

It does....
Thats exactly how I did it (wax paper that is), except I used paper towel folded over a few times beneath the wax paper. It absorbs the moisture better. Of course, it helps to change the wax paper and paper towel during the first day or two.

I always let mine dry into a patty so it wasn't a hassle to change them.

The eyes here are a good example. Notice the darker eye.... Thats my avatar pre sculpting :yummy:
