Bubble Buckets a Cheap Alternative to Bubble Bags Pic by Pic

great thread, I have a question, I am not sure if it has been addressed or not, I just cant read through ever single post on these thread. I have a couple sets of bags (BB 7bag 5G kit, Trash bag 5&20G 3bag kits) but, what I want to is drill some hole in one of the buckets I have and use the handle to hang it through my other buckets to make a "stand alone" set-up.. Here is my problem, whenever I try to drill into my bucket, I get little shards of plastic everywhere . Is there a certain type of drill bit or drill that you guys use or good method to smooth these out. It just seems that it my way would take forever, so I'm sure someone out there has a beter methos. Sorry for that whack thread jack. f@ck thats why I'm dj highst peace everyone

There's a special woodworking bit, called a forstner bit, that will do the job well. I use them for drilling plastic buckets, as well as woodworking. In individual sizes they should run about $8.00 or so. And press gently to reduce the "tearout". It's when the bit breaks through that most of the damage is done, so go through the material slowly.

Another thing you could use is a "backer board". This is simply a piece of wood that is held firmly against the place where you're drilling, and instead of the bit going through the hole and out, it continues to drill into the "waste block" and reduces the tearout even more.

It works well, here's one of my buckets I use with the 5-gal bags, all hand drilled. It can be done, and easily too.

I hope this helps. Smily is real good at this... HEY - smily - you got anything to add?

wow that was super helpful, thanks for the post. That answered all my questions and then some and pics. thanks

on a side not, I posted about this in another thread, but have you guys scene the bublble bags the Trash Bags brand make, they came out with a new set that has nice metal hooks sewn into the material, Great feature. I bought the 20 gallon set and us a engine cherry picker with a hydrolic hoist. If they made all bags with this feature, it would make the whole process 100% easier. I have some pics I will try to get up.

Thanks again for the help with the buckets I got a fresh batch of cuttings sitting in the freezer that I am going to use tom. I will try your method and post results peace dj highst

For people looking for a cheap option to dry. If you dont have bags, you can buy the drying screen seperate. I freeze mine and it comes out like paint chips. Paper towels under whatever you are using to dry it always helps. If it sits in a puddle while it is trying to dry it always seems to have a wierd water logged appearance/consistancy/taste/ etc. peace dj highst

the bags use polymesh!!

as to those others you mention...um...
ive no idea....

i wanted to simple duplicate the bags SO i went straight to silkscreen vendors and never got asked anything more than if i minded the twill weave instead of plain... [TW or PW ] figured hed dont the math and this was the best...

plus its the credibility too...

i READ twill is better for filtering... ok... [ you get both anyway often... cuz you DONT want to come back! :D ]

do the others kinds of screen come in grades comperable to those you will need for the final extractions???

it really great that several guys are making this...
but all these readers have something to do too...

look ALL YOU READERS!!!
these guys smacking this together firstly are spending WAY TO MUCH FOR SCREEN... cuz the VENDORS who SERVICE THIS SPORT... aint jumping up to do this...

SO... for some time to come...
anyone with about $150.00 buckscan go buy a yard of the six finest screens that THE BAGS all use... screw the 220....

now rip em into 9 squares... DO A NICE JOB PLEASE...

now go sit in the fucking park...

at $10.50 cents you break even....
at $21.00 you DOUBLE YOUR MONEY...

for using the phone, a take measure, a sharpie, and 6 hours you had laying around...

get it?!?!?!?!

chop chop!!!!

=D

Hey all,

Well, got off my butt and ordered some mesh today. :woohoo:
I was going to order from dickblick but then I said to myself, "Self, why don't you look around and see if you cant find it any cheaper?"

To which I replied, "That sounds like an excellent idea, I'm glad I thought of it" hehehe

Anyway, I found a couple places that had better pricing than dickblick.

victoryfactory.com
ryanrss.com
lawsonsp.com
(there are varying mesh counts between the 3 but all list the mesh opening in microns so you dont have to do the math)

The only thing about victory factory is you have to order by phone because they don't have an online checkout on thier site.
They did have the best prices though.

Mesh Count - T.D. (Mic) - Mesh Opening (Mic) - Price/yd 53" - Price/yd 62"
----83----------100--------------200--------------6.80---------8.40
----110----------80--------------150--------------6.90---------8.50
----123----------64--------------133--------------8.40--------10.10
----137----------64--------------120--------------8.70--------10.40
----156----------64--------------100--------------9.70--------11.90
----195----------55---------------75-------------11.30--------13.50
----230----------48---------------60-------------13.80--------16.95

Notice that the bolt sizes are at least 11" longer than dickblick. So not only is the price MUCH lower, but you get more material.

dickblick-- 42"bolts
223u, 195u, 151u, 132u, and 120u --- $12.79/yd
106u ------------------------------- $14.69/yd
79u -------------------------------- $16.99/yd
57u -------------------------------- $20.29/yd

If you'd rather have the convenience of just ordering online the other two mentioned can accomodate you but they cost a little more. Both, however, are less expensive than dickblick.

For less than $100.00 delivered I got a couple yards each of the 200u, 150u, 120u, and 75u from 62" bolts.
Enough for 12- 18" screen sets or 30- 12" sets.
(I wanted to stock up for a good while to come  )

I still might order another size but the lowest victory factory had listed on thier site was 60u and I want something a little closer to say 30u or 40u.
Victory factory does have lots of other sizes they just list the most common ones. You have to ask about others and I didn't feel like it so I'll probably order from one of the other two for my finest mesh.

12 x 18" sets- less than $8.50 each
30 x 12" sets- less than $3.50 each
(4 screen sets)

Of course this will go up a bit if I add another smaller micron screen to the set since the finest mesh will be the most costly.
For example, 29u from ryanrss.com will be 32.32/yd cut from 62" bolts.
That would bring my total cost for 12 - 18" sets to about $165.00 or $13.75 each.
With 12" sets it would come out to $5.50 each for 30 sets.
(5 screen sets)

Still not too shabby...

Of course you can just get 1 yard of each for less than $80 to scale down to your own needs and the cost per set is basically the same.

So... I also went to H.D. earlier today and picked up the buckets. I actually just finished putting them together so all I'm waiting on now is the mesh. When I'm finally able to get a run through these I'll be sure to post the results. :woohoo:

Thanks Smiley and Ben for this thread. It was just the motivation I needed.

Oh, and Ben, sorry but I'm a little too paranoid to do the sitting in the park thing. :biglaugh: :yoinks:

I have one run ahead of me :yummy: , now I just need to get growing again so I can get my moneys worth out of these things. :chin:
No point in having them if I'm not getting any use out of them right?

Peace
Beans

I've got the screens, but Blick didn't send me the biggest size (195 microns). I was thinking I could just use a strainer/colander for the big stuff, then use the screens (clipped) over the colander for the next three pours. I clip the screen to the colander with binder clips. Do you Hashmeisters think it will work? I've got a tiny amount, like an oz. I just want to learn the process.

btw, that's me in the park with those screens....

I don't see why not for small batches. Should be fine.
Incidentally,
After I do my mixing, a long handled collander is what I use to scoop the trim off the top of the water. once it's full I rinse some fresh water through it to flush out any trichs that may have gotten caught up in the trim.

I do this pretty slowly so as not to disturb the trich that are settled on the bottom of the bucket.

just like to say thanks to smily and ben for this thread, I've used all my scrap up and works great! so easy. got one more question , is it a problem to throw the screens in the washer after rinsed if a guy isnt gonna use them for a while?

um... dunno.
never had the need... you refering to that haze of material you never can quite get off em??? before smily clued me in on the freezer trick i gave em a bit of dishwashing detergent in the sink once....

but ive never had that occur once i started freezing em instead of scraping... truth be... ive see that spot on all the bubblebags ive had the chance to inspect... think id be sure to toss them into a laundry bag or zippered pillow case IF i had the unmittigatable urge to machine laundry them...

why not just have your women do em in the sink with her hoses of panty?

Great thread :) Just wanted to add one thing if I could. I saw earlier someone said the 120 bag was good if you didnt have much else. To tell the truth in a mature plant if you catch some 120 it will most likely be your fatest trich heads. I catch some good 120 runs in the diesel and OG strains. Its is my favorite when it gives it up followed by the 73. Most the time I no longer run the 25 bag as I dont much care for what gathers there. I even had a super mature grandaddypurple plant give me some great fmcd from the 160 bag. For a closer look at my hash to see what im talkin about click the link in my signature and go towards the end of the thread during harvest :) Hope you didnt mind me droppin in and given my .02. Just wanted to make sure noone missed out on how good the 120 bag can be.When it bubbles its the best :)

absolutely agreed b abbabud!

different plants put out different sized trich head... if youve propagating the same strain over and over... you CAN cut out the screen that arent doing anything...

but you dont know WHICH those will be... until you run the full spectrum....
