Heath is a very skilled builder. Everything he does he builds himself. His designs are really simple too.

Before the update tomorrow (things are looking real nice)... I just thought I'd share a little picture I put together that helps visualize why coliseum growing is beneficial. :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inverse-square_law This Wiki page was referred to in statusquo's thread, and it has a picture of a light source...

Now 3 sources of light... and even 400w lamps can become fairly powerful.

pretty cool man, took me a minute of staring at it to get it, but i do now.

are you going back to colosseum instead of stacks? what are your thoughts on this since you've got your new system.

i've been meaning to build some slanted racks like that for my 42x18" trays. i think the plants would like that better than me trying to push them out. i was thinking something not so solid(1x8 with a 2x4 on the lip) but heath's design is really strong and i don't need any more accidents.

I'm sticking with coliseum growing from now on. The benefits of stacking your lights on top of each other means I can run less watts, making it easier to control the atmosphere. It's not all about adding more light. Heath and DHF were pulling 1.5gpw w/o CO2. I'm not trying to argue gpw as 100% accurate, but it gets a point across.

I'm going to continue with individual stacks around the light column though. I'm going to build individual shelves that hold 4 5gal bucket, 1 on top of the other.

The plan was to start the new place out with proven clones... but I wasn't expecting spider mites and PM, at the same time!

So we adapt. Here's my game plan:
I move in next month. I popped a lot of purp x grape skunks for the new spot. While I build, the plants are gonna get a little veg time. I'm doing 2 1800w coliseum rooms on a flip. I need 16 shelves of 4 5gal buckets for 64 plants. Initially they're all going in one room. I'm banking on 50% of those purp x Grape Skunks being male, so I can flower out the best elsewhere, and cull the rest. Then one month later, I have 8 free shelves to fire up the next pod. My clones should be ready to go by then.

those are great illustrations to show people who have a hard time understanding why vert is soo awesome...

Thanks guys. My point is that the light further from the lamp should remain more intense b/c of the overlapping light. Stadium growing starts to take advantage of this overlapping effect, but you can only take advantage of 2 sides of the lamps. It makes more sense to put 2 coliseums in the same space you could fit a large stadium. Just my opinion... The other thing I was thinking about, is that if these lamps were in hoods, it wouldn't be possible to keep them as close to each other... I think there's several factors involved here that gave DHF and Heath the 1.5gpw yields... And you can't go picking and choosing the parts you want to incorporate. You can to an extent (plant #'s vs. veg time, containers, etc...), but the concept focuses on a dialed environment.

i think plant #'s vs. veg time and having the environment dialed are the two most important thing in maximizing gpw all other things being equal...

colosseum is the king of vert but its not for large scale though...

this is what im talking bout:D:D:D

lol, those plants are massive... the the insides are full of nothing. How do you trim up the insides of such a ridiculous plant? I'm talking about running chicken wire up and down and get those bitches in line! lol... Tell ya what though, if I had 72 of those, I wouldn't complain... I might hire out the trimming though.

as far as coliseum growing not being for large scale... running two rooms, ideally I will be pulling down at least 6lbs a month. That's the ultimate goal. That's rather substantial when you're talking about one person. If you weren't concerned about numbers I don't see why you couldn't do 2 more pods. The smaller rooms are easier to dial in, as opposed to massive grows where things go unnoticed....

Talk is just that, talk... Over the next couple months I'll make it happen. I'm going to become an expert at this.

So I had to cull 4 males this week. I expected 1-2, but not 4! I really don't have enough plants in this setup, nor do I really have any to add right now... I'm thinking about consolidating, and throwing in some seed plants to fill in the space. The other part of me says just finish this grow out and start fresh the next time... idk...

The bottom is 2 weeks, the top is 4 or 5... I loose track of these things...

Hey Now, Bobble.

Its nice to see the those bins with some green in them. Your still on your shakedown cruise with this run, bro. Don't sweat it to much. Take note of what you need to shake out to make her purr and then hunker down for the next run.

"....Over the next couple months I'll make it happen. I'm going to become an expert at this."

That you will, my friend.:ying:

yeah, every breeder needs a pack of SD IBL! :)

So one of the critical errors I made building this pod... I thought the whole thing was supposed to be 6x6, but that was just the inner area. DHF told me a while ago the whole room was supposed to be 8x8. My inner diameter is 4x4. There's just no way I'm hitting 6lbs... maybe 3-4lbs though. I'm counting on those Chem4D's and strawD99's to produce. This space would be better suited for 3 400w lamps, which is great for the summer... ha ha... I have the temperature under control though, humidity around 50% so I'm going to keep rocking this pod out the way I am...
