Bangi Haze

I've been seeing white hairs since first of August.
Gave her a top dress of horse manure and bone char
In mid July. Sprayed with neem 3 times for spider mites. Now she only gets humate water and EWC tea. Sure looks yellow next to a headband.

I keep getting accused of "torturing" plants, but I swear there are a lot of plants that are naturally more yellowish than others. Bangi Haze is one of them. Funny, no one panics about purple colors, but they are the same type of thing. Green is not the only color of chlorophyll:

https://scienceline.ucsb.edu/getkey.php?key=1110

Except:

"Different photosynthetic organisms use different combinations of pigments, which have different colors because they absorb and reflect different frequencies of light.

Plants and green algae (plants are really advanced green algae) contain chlorophyll a (which is teal-green), chlorophyll b (which is yellow-green), and beta-carotene (which is yellow), thus giving them a green color. Brown algae and their unicellular relatives (e.g. diatoms) have chlorophyll a,chlorophyll c, and lipid pigments called fucoxanthins, which together give them a golden-brown color. Red algae possess chlorophyll a and lipid-based pigments called phycobilins, which give them the brilliant red(or deep blue) color. These different combinations of pigments are more or less efficient at collecting light at certain frequencies and at certain levels of light intensity (too much will damage the pigment). Thus, they parcel out the Sun's energy to make the most use of it and to not compete with other photosynthetic organisms."

Here is a nice and healthy seedling of Laos showing off it's yellowish green chlorophyll, admittedly accentuated by the evening light:

If anything, people are torturing their plants by force feeding them to get the color that makes them comfortable.

Had to chop down outdoor Bangi haze because of security scare.
The flowers were only a few weeks old. I made bho and it's the craziest taste I've come across.
I think it taste like fresh pine needles with maybe half a touch of lemon oil?. My uncle tasted it and said that it was definitely piney up front but with eucalyptus after taste.

Very excited to see what my indoor b.h. is going to taste like!

She really needs 4 weeks in a jar for joints to reach her max potency and flavor in my experience but does it matter for extracts like rosin and bho? I was gifted a manual press but never used it yet. Will certainly be doing some bangi rosin. Should I cure it first?:tiphat:

Hi Rodehazrd,

In my experience you can press buds that aren’t fully cured without really losing quality. It’s good to use buds that are still sticky with resin. The main thing is making sure they have a high enough water content when pressing. When I used to press a lot I would dry the buds, jar them about for 2-3 weeks and then reintroduce some moisture before pressing by adding a wet paper towel. YMMV I suppose.

Also bear in mind that rosin has a limited shelf life compared to jarred buds so pressing just enough to have fresh rosin for a few weeks is your best course.

Your rosin yield won’t be as high as using extremely high resin hybrid strains like kushdawgdiesel etc etc but the quality and strength will be huge. My GT rosin was devastating. Experiment and have fun!

What kind of press do you have by the way?

Thanks PF
I'm only planing to press for myself and yield isn't very high on my preference list.
I have a high five press I think it's a 1.5 x 3 inch plate. Ran into my cuz and he gave it to me. No handle bags or prepress yet. He may find the prepress. I will make a handle and order bags. What size mesh should I get?

I have the same press with 2.5x2.5 square plates.

I’ve never used a prepress or mesh bags so I can’t help you there. I would always just compress it in a ball in my palm and squish it in parchment paper (the Costco brand is nice and thick). I’m interested to see how you make out prepressing and squishing in a bag. I was worried that the rosin might get caught in the bag and gunk it up/get lost in it so let me know how it goes for you.

If the bag isn't needed I have the paper I'll put a bolt on and slip a black iron pipe on there and I'm ready to go. Cuz said he pressed below 200 degrees for his best runs. I'll likely muck up some but I'll smoke my mistakes

Yeah I say go for it man. There’s definitely a learning curve but after some trial and error it’s pretty easy and convenient to produce small amounts of top quality rosin.

Most of the fan leaves have dropped and she's getting fat. Hot dry forecast for at least 7 days who could ask for a better September.

Its chop time here. 10 percent tan trich's. Earlier than I thought it would be but I only get 6 hours of sun so she must think its later than it is. Also I put out clones which finish a little faster I think. Since most of the fans have fallen already trimming this girl is a breeze. No mold issues although its been totally dry all Sept. and very hot.

I was going through my old seeds the other day when I came across three BH seeds from a 2014 batch I had bought and since I have missed that euphoric smoke I couldn't help dipping them seeds...
And voila all three have sprouted!

Cudos to the sobrino! :dance013:

Hey Orf. I grew one Bangi haze a few years ago and it was one of the least impressive looking plants from Ace I’ve ever grown. Self seeded and weirdly stunted. A very picky plant, but I did have some soil issues at the time too so I think it was at least partly my fault.

Clearly a very poor example of what BH can do, but - wow what a euphoric high! Pure bliss and energy and a really spicy aniseed smell. I’d love to try her again to see what she can really do.

Wrong thread I know but I can’t help wondering.. How is your super Malawi haze smoking now? That plant looked amazing.

This is a reveg from a regular seed harvested indoors first. I put it out later than I should have and it isn't quite ready yet. Really nice plant, I'm trying to stretch the growing time out and have my fingers crossed.

Hello all,
I’ve been a long time lurker on IC. This site seems to have better vibes for me than others. Here is my album of this years Bangi Haze grow, my first Ace grow! I am incredibly impressed with what Dubi and crew have to offer, I’ll be growing more Ace varieties in the future.
