in my forties got perament nerve damage

in my forties got perament nerve damage

I had two mri's a while back not good, got permament nerve damage in three place in my lower back, and spinal stenoius, not spelled correct, in the easyest way I can put it is, my spinal colum has too small of diameter, they don't recommend surgery or physical therapy,I tried to go to a chiropractor, it worked for a couple months then it started hurting me more than anything else, But what really kills me in the winter is when you have a cold and have to sneeze, and if you sneeze hard enough you can throw your back out, It doesn't help that I also torn my siactic nerve a few years back, they take forever to heal, my left leg used to go numb, and if I drove to long in one position, it would hurt like hell, try pushing in the clutch in your car when your in bumper to bumper traffic for a 45 minute to a hour commute, beening in your forties suck but at least I got my medical card, so now I self medicate, I also use a heating pad it seems to help and sit with my back flat on the floor near the edge of bed and I elevate my legs for a little while. it seem to really help

I have a bad back, mostly from lifting/jumping when young and stupid. As a kidney stone sufferer, I also have to drink alot of water to prevent stones.

My back pain has lessened considerably since I upped my water intake - LOTS of water, and a much looser belt to hold up pants...

My back is so much better - without even trying.

Not like perm damage from accident or surgery - but for milder cases, try lots of water (and don't take Crestor)...

Very good point, Classy. I think most of us could use more water. I have some nerve damage, and if i drink too much alcohol or have too much caffine I have cramps like crazy. Both of these will dehydrate you. Hydrating with water is definately helpfull........scrappy

So I'm not quite 40 yet (37), but I saw the title of the thread and had to chime in. I've got spina bifuda occulta (split spine) at S1 with stenosis of the spine at the same spot, causing an L5 nerve root irritation, degenerative discs at: T4 with osteophytes (bone spurs) and bulging discs at S1, T4, and C6-9 on top of all of that, I have Fibromyalgia. The vast majority of all this from being rearended at a stoplight. So I can totally relate to the weather changes causing pain. My fibro flares up unbelievably bad when storms move in, or the pressure changes. And there are days when I can't even get up to take care of the garden.
Sorry to hear about everyone else's pains, and here's to more pain free (pain limited in my case) days!

My dad has narrowing of the spinal canal as well, (I hear it's genetic...I have *great* genes.)
He started a new treatment a few months ago, that has helped him considerably.
I will try to remember to ask him more about it and let you know, so you can look into it. :)

Wishing you all a pain free day!!: ...Or at least less painful.
Hang in there guys!! And happy medicating! :smoker:

Mid-Forties here, and RA is finding new joints to mess with every few months....currently just the right arm (shoulder and all points South down to the fingers)....lower back....which really kicks in with weather changes....and just recently my knees have deicided they want in on this silly game....

I also care for my mother (in her mid-70s), who is chair-bound with her RA and multiple fused discs....I expect I'll end up like her....

But what really bugs me....is the way the quacks are happy to dole out pills with such god-awful side-effects....that they precribe you another pill to help with the problems caused by the first one....and so on...and so on....so far I'm fighting my doc about a couple of different medications.....cuase I've seen what they do/did to my mother.....methotrexate? Shit, no.....the pain has to be absolutely unbearable with zero mobility before I consider taking that....

As I tell my doc....cannabis really makes a difference (talking to a brick wall)...alcohol (when I don't have cannabis) does help somewhat, but has it's own problems....and co-codamol or co-drydamol when it gets really bad.....not the latest pill your drug company pimp is pushing this month, which causes (in my mother's case, on multiple occasions) potentially life-threatening side effects requiring hospitalization.....

wow....bit more of a rant than I intended........I don't talk about this sort of stuff very often.....guess I needed to let off a little steam.....

But yeah.....weather definitely messes with my lower back.....

sorry to hear of the pains and history Blimey at least you know of the best meds being right here. I'd never drug another person w/out their knowledge but a small piece of brownies might help momma every now and again.

I'm celebrating another couple of good pops in my back tonight, what sweet relief it is.......

I woke up last Wednesday, felt fine, had breakfast, a latte and a smoke.
Sat down on the shitter to drop one and BAM, my lower back went FU!
Spent the last week in pain. Moving from a seated to standing postition was misery.
Made my bad rotator cuff feel like a walk in the park.

Hey Stedenko..I had a buddy that the same thing happened to. Almost all the back injuries I hear of begin with little occurances like yours, although something else may have been going south long before they happened. Alert..low pressure going through Northern Cali this afternoon...Doobsters in pain, will be in the hot tub..ouch!

S-*T!!!! I was sitting down, turned weird, back went pop, legs went tingly. Couldn't breath for a second, still cant take a deep breath. I made it to a bottle ibuprofen, heating pad, and my stash. Posted up on couch now watching naked gun, was supposed to go biking this afternoon with the misses, looks like we will be enjoying the outdoors from our deck at the furthest. Prob could have gotten through the day without this happening....-basket

I dropped a considerable amount of weight over the past 100 days w/a few changes to my diet, my back was suddenly feeling great and walking erect; felt so good as to give me hope for some normalcy in my life, it wasn't meant to be.

w/out warning my back started to spasm as I'm sitting here, stood up to go to the can and had my hunched over posture going again.......

mine just went to hell overnight ruining my long awaited T-day w/some special friends but meaning a long (800 mile) drive for me, next time I plan on visiting I'm going to fly in to see them. I feel awful about letting them down.

on a happier note, as I was sitting here @ my comp checking emails before going to sleep I think the last nerve has slipped back into place, my right leg is finally feeling a bit better. I woke up this morning w/the right & leg leg femoral nerves firing up due to a spasm I had while sleeping, I came too feeling like I had multiple daggers buried in both legs.

I am sorry youre back is bad stoner. but i can only offer my sympatis. hope it will all be well for you soon.
When i was a boy, i got a serious infection in my eyes. and it was further fucked by a to eager doctor. so now if it gets cold for a week or so, my eye sight actually clears up quit a bit. its the weerdest thing when it happens.
NOt a back complaint i know but some might find it amusing.
cheers

When the work day has kicked my ass I break out the foam roller and the Calms. Maybe pop a couple of pieces of candied ginger to help smooth things out.

well I'm paying for it now...
last night I reached for a full size restaurant fire extinguisher that was tough to reach and grab, I'd say it took about 90 seconds of wrangling to pull it free but I'm paying for it tonight in spasms, I'm outta here and gonna crawl into my Comforest bed right now....

Thinking of ya mate :tiphat:
Bloody back is the bane of my existence too, I think I need another adjustment this week to help everything in the lumbar stay in the right place where it should be.
Hope you feel better in the morning bro and the spasms have stopped.
:smoke out:
