That cannabis common sense show is interesting, didnt even know it exsited till i moved over to the west side of oregon. Intriguing....

What sort of battery are you going to use BC, 12volt vehicle? I havnt seen anyone use an electric pump in the outdoor arena, although I havnt really watched it all that much. I was more interested in indoor growing for some time, but since I am wanting/planning on an outdoor grow myself, my attention is seemingly spread over the two more. How will you keep the battery charged?
I could see the packing of fresh batteries in every so often, but I could also see using a large enough battery to last for quite some time. Interesting...

No pump in this operation klaze.
Unless I have to do a emergency fill on the rez from the year round creek, this will all work by gravity flow. The rez will be uphill from the plot, on a steep hill side, when the timer valve opens at the plots, gravity action will draw water out of the rez, and down to the plot.

The timer valve runs off of AA bateries, I like to use the lithium type, very long lasting.

One of these nights I'll reproduce a improved version of my OG thread about my version of a automatic irrigation system, where to get parts, how to set it up, etc. That will make alot of this clearer.
Also I will have a beast of a thread up this summer detailing my vastly different grows, got a doozy of a summer comming up! Hmmm, let me see if I can find a old paint drawing of the system for now...

Ah, I see. That makes much more sense to me. I can envision a small timered valve system running on AA batteries. In fact if I am thinking correctly I can remember seeing something similar, albeit different, at home depot. It was for a sprinkler system. It used batteries and opened a valve (for a drip system I beleive). I was pondering what use it could have and untill just now could not really think of one. Brilliant BC.

Hey Klaze! I plan on running 5 plants on this first tank, I will also be building 2 100gallon tanks, which will have 3-4 plants each.

After last season, I figured each of my plants that were grown exclusively for bud(not seed), were given about 25 gallons each, and avereged 3.25 OZ each(which seems to be my normal averages each season).

I'm going to use the 200 gallon grow as a experimenter against the other 2, the 5 plants in that grow will be given a bit more water per week to see if it significantly makes a difference in final yield. Also I may use the 200 gallon tank to grow unsexed plants next year, so I will need to plant twice the number to make up for males, which means I will need more water per OZ of my target harvest goal. My goal for the 200gallon tank will be a pound this year, and I think I will yield much more than that if things go as planned.

I finally got the 200 gallon filled, so next project will be to scout and build the 2 smaller systems. Hell, it will be time to clone for the Summer soon, I can't believe how fast time flies!! Gotta keep working........

Here is the seasonal creek I used to fill the rez-

And here is the rez, under its camo-

And here is the fill port with hose attached-

So you are harvesting around 90-100 grams a plant on average? The information provided by some of the seed selling sites show up to 500 grams per plant outdoor, with the average I have found to be around 250 grams. Granted their figures are likely buffered and they have grown in perfect conditions as well as taking the weight of the largest producer in a given batch. Of course Im sure locale has a lot to do with it also. Interesting.

Will you be using ferts during the grow or just depend on the soil amendment you will be performing before hand?

I'll prep the sites very well, soon a matter of fact. They will be heavily ammended, I will also bring some ferts with me on the occasions I do make it out there, in the form of concentrated Guano teas.

Yield depends on the situation, how much water, food, sun etc is involved, seed sites like to make their products sound great, and under the right conditions they would be.

Great thread BC, Your reservior would have come in quite handy for my drought conditions last season. I was hauling about 30 gallons per week last year because the water table had dropped, during the dry conditions. Fortunately I was close to a water source.

A 16 oz personal stash is just about right if I don't give too much away. I was lucky to double that last season.

Just like any other hobby we tend to get carried away, I don't know what to expect this season.

good luck

Yeah, a pound has always been my goal for personal stash, but I have never been able to reach that goal watering by hand out in the bush, I'm sure I could if I wanted to break my back of course.

I hope that with these 3 systems I will have plenty, and I am sure between these and my other grows this season, I will have way more than plenty.

Backcountry...

How did the guys at OG use those water bed matresses?

How did they replace the water leaving the matress(RES), with air...The matresses have only one opening....

What were the common ways to protect em from animals?

Fast pine-I'm sorry, I have never looked into water bed matresses, because I do not have access to one. It seems that someone told me they have a garden hose ready spigot already installed?

A waterbed matress works like a collaspable bladder, it sucks in on its self as it empties, it does not need a vent. Think of it as a big Capri sun pouch(ever had one of those?), or a tooth paste tube, or a untied ballon.

As for protecting one? Man, thats a whole other can of worms, hmmmm. You need 1/4" mesh fencing to keep out rodents, but you also need space enough between the mesh and the matress, or the critters may still be able reach enough to knaw a small hole.

Perhaps digging a hole a bit bigger than the mattress, lining it with the 1/4" mesh, then spacing the matress from the wire(on all sides) with backfilled dirt? But how to protect from a larger animal stepping on it? Put it under a pile of brush? Hmmmm...?

tarps in the bush for water

tarps in the bush for water

Hey guys just curious has anyone used tarps to collect rain? just thought it might work well with areas with no water but lots of rain? tarps are easy to get into the bush and they can be made to collect the rain in garbagepails or home depot style buckets with lids to keep the crap out of em once theyre full. the spot i was at the other day has an old drywall bucket, a large stack of porn, a 15'15 camo tarp and one of those theings for the roofs of cars that look like big mac boxes. w am going to use the big mac car roof thingy as a res, just cut both halfs apart and i got 2 rez's and a tarp already at the site plus a drywall compund bucket, im halfway there in a way.
now all i need is ammenments and a army shovel and clones

Oh, I am sure they are :chin: this whole Irrigation thing is a pretty old, well used idea. I was just amazed with the lack of graphic "How-to" threads about it. So I took it upon myself last Summer to start trying to document my experiences with it. I started it on OG last year, and moved it here when she shut down.

ErbloverOntario-Yes! I have done that, and it works like a charm when you can't haul it, pump it, etc. Just set up a tarp, aim it at a large container(I used garbage cans), and let mother nature do the rest.

I do have to say the one problem is with shit getting into the Rez(leaves, rodents, bugs, etc). If I thought more about it, I bet I could come up with a way to strain it all out before it hits the rez, or you could strain out the crap by siphoning into a fresh rez with a fine screen in-line

I just wrap fiberglass window screen around the top of my rain barrel and secure it with a bungie cord.

The little bit of dirt that does get through, settles to the bottom... well below the drain hole.

There ya go Capatain! Its just that simple!

I like the idea of collecting rain, because it increases your freedom to choose a growing location even more.
