Fast pine-I'm sorry, I have never looked into water bed matresses, because I do not have access to one. It seems that someone told me they have a garden hose ready spigot already installed?

A waterbed matress works like a collaspable bladder, it sucks in on its self as it empties, it does not need a vent. Think of it as a big Capri sun pouch(ever had one of those?), or a tooth paste tube, or a untied ballon.

As for protecting one? Man, thats a whole other can of worms, hmmmm. You need 1/4" mesh fencing to keep out rodents, but you also need space enough between the mesh and the matress, or the critters may still be able reach enough to knaw a small hole.

Perhaps digging a hole a bit bigger than the mattress, lining it with the 1/4" mesh, then spacing the matress from the wire(on all sides) with backfilled dirt? But how to protect from a larger animal stepping on it? Put it under a pile of brush? Hmmmm...?
Interesting topic! BC on using a bladder type water reservoir. If a weighted platform was set on top , it would pressurize the bladder. If properly designed it would push the water uphill for Ya. The more weight the higher you can push the water. Just a thought.

nice thread back country. taggin so I'll remember to read it in its full later.

I'm busy right now and didn't get a chance to read this completely so I'm sorry if you mentioned this already.

I just wanted to ask if you ever tried water crystals? I've never had outdoor plants so far that I couldn't bring my own water. but I have friends that swear by them. absolutely consider them just as important as ferts for the guerilla grower. they said it lessens their watering frequency dramatically.

I've used a handful in my soiless mix before but I was scared to overdo the amount and end up with permanently soggy soil.

u ever try them before? opinons?

Yes, I use and endorse the use of water crystals outdoors in the soil, I have not tried them in pots much, but I have gone as heavy as 3 times the prescribed amount, and no problems.

hey backcountry, i remembed your OG stuff.
great idea. beats the hell out of hauling water.... 8lbs/gallon, fuuuuuuck that, even if you only have to walk 100 yards. its enough work back pakcing in your soil ammendments.
there was a really great thread back on OG about outdoor guerilla reseviors, on a bigger scale. i think it involved a water pump that was powered by a car battery to fill the res.
but gravity is your friend. you could pack in a battery powered drill, with a water pump attachment (cost 10 bucks).

i think there needs to be a guerilla grower specifc information area. there are so many unknowns and variables, especially for newbies. this kind of info is priceless.

Drill pumps are great for moving a small amount of water, but they just aren't designed for serious outdoor irrigation.

You may be thinking of Irrigation 101 by the clone stranger.

I always thought it would be good to seperate guerilla growing from the folks growing in their backyards into seperate sub forums(like they do with soil Vs Hydro for indoor), once you are out in the bush everything is many times more difficult.

Good to see ya tasteOrganic!

Guerilla can be a full order of magnitude harder to set up than a backyard grow, but can also really be pretty damn simple once that part is accomplished. If done wisely, it's also a full order of magnitude safer as well.

Hmmm, I may go ahead and use this resivour this year, if my build was good, there should be 200 gallons of water still waiting to be used. Security concerns with this plot seem to have lessend as of late, so this may not end up being a waste of time after all.......

hey backcountry ,, im a bit lazy where it comes to dragging water uphills ,, didnt take me long to grab a 12 volt pump , amazing how quiet yet powerful they are , if u have access to a creek they are just what the doctor ordered ...
i did end up digging a small dam also , bit spoilt with the easy digging where i am , i fill the dam u p from the creek with the pump , and drip feed , or whatever i need ..
im considering dripping this year , if i added an extra digital timer i can fill the dam , and drip the whole area , s , i need over a day or 2 ... really gotta consider the water first where it comes to good bush grows , just amazing what a difference it can make ..
great thread backcountry.

Wally,
What type of battery do you use to power your pump? I got the same style and looking for anything other than a car battery. Also, where would be a good place to find the infamous Duck'sfoot? Thanks man.

Thanks wally! Much respect man!

LORD BENIS- If you are going carry the battery in and out each time, I'd use a motorcycle battery or Lawn tractor battery.
If the battery will stay on site through most of the season, I'd use a Deep cycle battery, they are sold for Boats and RVs and last a long time, I know this for fact cuz I grew up on a 12volt water system that opperated in just that way.

Very cool and informative thread in a sea of "Name that strain" threads! Guerrilla growing is crazy because of the amount of rippers and dangers. It's like raising a kid in the alley.
Peace and best of luck. I wish I lived far from the big city.
