Hey donald :)

Also out of curiosity I didn't top the row on the right. I always top once, just left a row out of curiosity. Both those two rows were pretty even and same strain, so should be interesting the difference. Probably will never do it again, even though I prefer the look :)

be interesting to see if there is much difference in the final yield on those topped vs untopped pumpkin , so far they look quite similar ..

Thanks Fronk!

Yeah, will let you know Donald. Even just to avoid bud rot topping is best, and I think the yeild is normally better. How do you guys prune your plant? Got any tips for what works for you?

So, my theory anyway. I leave pretty much everything on the plant. I sometimes cull the bottom 2-4 branches that are stragglers and top once. I never defolaite. I like shade leaves and think they are super important, and will remove themselves when their usefulness is over. Sometimes I will remove undercarriage vegitation that does not get light, but I don't feel it actually adds wight, possibly the opposite. Mostly I think I am a top once and leave em be guy. Runty branches can go.

That said, i think density of growth determines pruning strategy. Indoors with a thicker canopy i may be way more brutal. But I think if plants have enough space, pruning and recovery can sometimes be more harmful than good. Depends what you want out of it also i suppose. And I am not sure I know what the right thing to do is, it's mainly all based on gut feeling, not solid evidence.

I think with topping a plant you can lose two to three days veg. The less time your plants have in veg, the more that counts. Outdoors that can be more important to note than indoors where you have limited space and flexible seasons. Well I hope my little experiment sheds some light on that. My gut is three days recovery is worth it. I think the topped plants will yield more. By about 20 percent. But would be happy to be proved wrong. I believe that plants with long internodal spacing respond well to topping almost always, but i could be very far off. It's really based on a hunch.

i top and bend pumpkin ,
then when i have the frame i like , i clear up underneath ,
and chop the excess middle stuff out also ,
keeps the airflow good so as to avoid any mold problems ....

and u get a decent bush that can yield a fair bit depending on veg time etc ,,
