Hello, thank you for the answers. I see that kind of breakfast in so many movies,...I know a close kind of breakfast only from the UK. In Germany is the only warm for breakfast maybe a boiled egg.:)

The interesting part of the research (for me) was that even when examining the upper crust in the socio-economic strata, was that the wealthy ALSO tended to eat what could be termed as shitty, unhealthy diets. Marketing? Convenience? What ever? Those who could afford to eat well, still slowly poisoned their bodies with unhealthy bullshit.

The upper crust in my research ate a higher quality of fat and carbs, but were -still- a very carb & fat-oriented society/group, stuck on refined sugars, refined flours.

How many take the time or have the energy to prepare a truly home-made healthful meals?

In my own family's addressing of diet, the fact is that many veggies require greater preparation, unless simply eating them raw, so looking to how time is spent, energy reserves for the average person after a day's work/routine, etc., probably figures in.

And when it comes to excesses, especially vices, unhealthy or otherwise, the better off persons (financially) have greater legal access to such things.

I've never seen a bunch of homeless folks gathered around a wheel of imported French brie.... Though we've done that at our table more than a few times. :biggrin:

We see all of those $1 & $2 menu items, being served up by (maybe) $10/hr. lackeys, working for folks who are -clearly- profit motivated, and too few ask, "How are they able to do that? What's -really- in those sandwiches?"

Funny but true part of history involves Micky D's getting on board with a UN crop substitution program for Northern Thailand, back in the day of Chiang Chi Fu/Kuhn Sah, up on the border lands.

Kuhn Sah was producing lots of opium, turning it into smack (refining much of it in China), then exporting. He had a personal army of ~2,500, with relatively modern arms, and was a player for the CIA; he could pull off cross-border jobs with no flags on their shoulder patches, thus little international friction. He was vehemently anti-communist (*There's more to his history, and he was an impressive guy, but I'll leave it at that; had original Confucian writings in his 'home' in the mountains there. A true gentleman and character considering his position in life).

Anyway, Micky D's saw an opportunity for a PR blast, for helping to replace the opium crop, AND get seriously cheap spuds for their French fries at the same time. What they didn't bank on (coming from short-sighted upper-middle & upper class mind sets) was that in the outlying border lands, where the Thai police and military rarely patrolled, Kuhn Sah's 'protection' of those villages that grew his poppies was a very important factor... and trading potatoes for an AK-47 or RPG was a lot more difficult than trading raw opium or heroin..

Things that simply didn't figure into the 'logic' of those in fine suits, sitting in tall buildings in America.

But Micky saw an opportunity. One of several (ultimately failed) efforts at crop substitution, courtesy of the UN and various looking-to-get-wealthier American-based corporations.

The strawberry substitution was an even bigger failure. A far more volatile/unstable crop, with many of the berries ultimately rotting on the docks in Bangkok.

All of this was reminiscent of the good (earlier era) social workers, who were going to go into Harlem and turn the folks there into good white, church-going Americans, with little to no understanding of the many differences in existence in the different places.

Yep, cheap food is often cheap for a reason.

McDonald's is killing the lower class.

Back when people worried about Bomb Shelters, McDonald's was an approved location.

I can recall going to the first one in town as a kid. Honestly, I was not at all impressed, I thought A&W was the place to go.

Wouldn't say I'm a regular McFucks customer, but they have been a long-time go to for many a late night drunk / stoned binge fest. Whats better than stumbling out of a bar at 2am and seeing the golden arches shining bright on the ride home. quarter pounder with fries and off to sleep. mmmmm

McDonald's is the devil, I can't stand that place. I hate when my wife takes the kids there. It's fucking inedible crap.

I am pretty hands on,with my kids education. My oldest son is autistic, so we are very involved. I have had to get involved because my son is high functioning. He was being pushed aside in favor of kids that were pretty much non functioning. If it wasn't for the socialization issues I would home school my kids. It doesn't help th at we are in California, where the more money we spend, the worse the results. That should be the state motto. Surprise surprise, throwing money at a problem only makes it worse. Beauracrats see it as another slush fund to raid.

Nearly all of the fast food (and even most of what's prepared on the shelves in the grocery stores) has elevated levels of sugar, and/or high fructose corn syrup.

The flavor of 'sweet' sells food, as much as the flavor of grease/fat, which carries its own 'sweetness.'

Type II diabetes seems (at least in Alaska, and I suspect nation-wide) to be growing exponentially, as is obesity (though I have heard/read that obesity is leveling off some), yet the many and varied producers of pre-prepared/processed foods, and especially FAST foods/drive-through restaurants continue to market their wares by increasing the carb content and specifically include the presence of refined sugars.

Try to find a can of processed chili on the store shelf that doesn't contain measurable amounts of sugar. My home-made traditional chili rarely contains any sweetener, unless I screw it up by over-roasting the chilies, and need to add a touch of sweet pepper, or just a micro-dab of honey to it to compensate for the excessively pungent dark roasting of the darker chilies.

To a limited degree, this could be seen as the poisoning of patrons, and a definable health risk, not that I'd encourage the Gov. criminalizing or restricting any more of what folks can put into their bodies; we've burned that bridge a number of times already.. But the processed foods industries might take a lesson from the tobacco industry's experiences, and, more recently, Big Pharma's experiences where opiates are concerned. This stuff eventually has a way of coming back to bite the perpetrators.

We used to provoke discussions in the legalization efforts that America's #1 killer is heart disease, and that if the push behind the drug war was truly a matter of enforcing healthy standards, with all illicit drugs combined killing only a fraction of those who die somewhat willfully from dietary and exercise habits resulting in heart disease, perhaps there should be some sort of King Pin status for Colonel Sanders & Ronald MacDonald.. Maybe Wendy, too. ;^>)

My question is serious. How many americans, in percent, do eat such a typical american breakfast. What do you think? If I stumble down the stairs in the morning, I just can eat a toast or french bun and cigerette and coffee of course.:tiphat:

Not very often myself, but when I do go out for breakfast the place is usually filled with old people.
