I would suggest you do go 12/12 asap. Remember that the plants can double in size. Your screen will fill up quick once they start stretching so if you wait too long it's gonna get out of control. I usually fill half my screen and then switch to 12/12. If you're not carefull you could run into this:

well it looks like a very nice canopy to me, chiefsmokingbud.
my opinion? few more days veg, and when switched and when stretch occurs some nodes will shoot up faster than others (the tricky bit) and these should be trained lateraly above the screen, trying not to bend anything too far below the canopy beyond where it cant grow. Aero wants density to dazzle our eyes and i'm not alone in wanting to see it :)

D.I.Try, I was hoping you would offer your opinion, your last scrog was excellent!! Thanks bro...

Chiefsmokinbud, yikes that's a scary picture, I don't want that at all...

Much gratitude for all the help regarding the 12/12 flip on this scrog, I mean it, thanks alot guys you have collectively helped me make a decision, I'm flipping 12/12 tonight!!

I was staring at the screen today realized that it's already full, the pics don't show it as well but there are bud sites all over the place and they are growing more rapidly than I am used to. There is also the fact that the root mass is larger than the plant mass so it might go into a crazy growth spirt any time and I could be in trouble if it's during veg.

Fatigues, I appreciate the suggestion regarding bushmaster I will give it a try someday. For this grow, I am sticking to the Lucas formula (hard to get me to stray from it).

I have a trick up my sleeve for the stretch, I use lighting spectrum and intensity with great results. The center light is going from 4100k to a 10,000k reef bulb over driven to 96 watts. I will also raise the grow to be right under the lights. After full flower kicks in the center light will go back to 4100k, I will likely leave it at 96watts for the duration of the grow.

Begin flower

as a attempting emulator to Aerohead, i could use a bit of help. I wouldn't have all thought about this at all if it werent for Aerohead and my bit high state of mind. Basically what i want to do is make an open cube tub, plexi glass if possible i have alot of it on hand, the open cube will basically be the reservoir. THen a smaller cube with rest on stoppers ill have inside the cube. The screen will be attatched to the Root Chamber so i can easily remove the whole unit for water and fixin problems. I was going to go with the same mister set up, polyvinyl tubing in a figure 8 around the net pots. sorry to disturb the flow of the thread i just wanted the experts opinion on if this will work. attatched is a crappy but hopefully helpful image of what im trying to do thank you to anyone who actually read everything i typed and are helping.

after careful consideration there is one change, same basic set up but instead of a water pump there is an air stone and the root chamber will rest just above it so that roots wont really surroung it and the holes on the bottom of the root chamber will be fitted with screens, basically micro bubbleponics all i need is the go from you guys that itll work and ill get to work

Hey Dr. Chronic, I'm not entirely clear what you are asking, The pics don't show up for me. I do have my res as you described, as a box with stops for the aero chamber to set in.

The ladies went to sleep last night so this is day 1 of flower, I was able to raise the res 4" and will slowly lower it as flower sets in.

sorry my ideas sorta melt together when write high
basically its a DWC type thing the roots will be in a box hopefully plexi glass if possible and that box will sit in an open box - the reservoir and there will be an air stone at the bottom of that. Theres going to be whole in the bottom of the root chamber so water from the reservoir can get up there and soak the roots. i figured it would be an easy single unit design i just want to know if you think it'll work as i have not done anything like this before

kudos on the crop man cant wait to see the colas

DoctorChronic, yes that plan will work, just remember the bubbles burst and throw a water drop up at the net pots so don't block that route with any screens (open water) under the baskets for that plan. Also, bubble wands are way better than stones, overkill with the air pump and air wands is a good thing. I run a 10 watt 4 line air pump through 4 24" bubble wands in my res, it roars with bubbles and my roots stay white.

While we are waiting for flower I thought I would take some pics of the canopy. I had my first case of burning leaves with a PL-L today, The center light is now running 96 watts with a 55 watt on each side. the leaves were about 1.5 inches from the socket when they burned.

picture.php

The burn happened right where the tube meets the socket, the solution for now is to tilt the screen because the heat increases as you get closer to the sockets. The canopy temp is still mostly 75F.

The overdriven PL-L is really penetrating the leaves here some pics of the ladies basking in the light increase, the light shines right through the leaves now.

Here is a pic taken as dark as I could get the camera, the center light is shining through the two side lights, it's alot brighter.

so for mine are you suggesting just one box with around 4 bubble wands in the res? wont the roots overcrowd the wands? and will silicon be enough to stop leaks in a plexi glass container?
sorry for all the questions i just want to get this right

if that canopy doesnt get overcrowded ill put a bet on 60 grams dude your set up is insane

still got that beasty fan? the one that was blowing them about?

thatl cool down the sockets

Not sure if it's something you want to bother with at this advanced stage of your grow, but have you considered putting tube guards over the PL-L lamps and actively cooling the tubes?

You might recall that the High-Pod's design put "tube guards" acting as cool tubes to protect the plants from being burnt by the PL-L lamps. The tube guards were clear plastic tubes covering the the PL-L lamps, with one end of the tube drawing air from the outside to actively cool the PL-L lamps and allow the plant leaves to actually grow right up and touch the surface of the tube guard without burning.

That approach might help you in your PC Case, though I have no idea if you even have room to add something like that even if you wanted to. Still, losing 1/3rd of an inch in vertical height to a tube guard, if it allows your plants to then grow right up and touch it, might work out to be an overall net gain in vertical grow space.

You don't have to have this much air pumped into the res I was just suggesting a little overkill when it comes to airating the res.

No, silicon won't seal plexi for long, your sump will likely fall apart 1/2 way through the grow. You need to use Weld-On #3 acrylic glue to be sure and no sealer is needed when using proper acrylic glue.

10 watt 4 line airpump? with my lack of hydro experience that sounds like a big pump. do you have a shot of it in your thread?

No, never showed a pic of the air pump in the thread, I was wrong about the wattage too, it's 12 watts, yes it is quite large that's a full size Bic for scale.

Here is a pic of it:

Yes, I will be upgrading the fans with the exception of the exhaust blower, it's doing a fine job.

Fatigues, I am trying to keep it bare bulb, however, I might use something to cover the last 2" by the socket of the overdriven one. The standard 55 watt tubes don't burn any leaves even a 1/4" away. It's just the center overdriven bulb that does and it's only right by the base of the bulb.

Lookin Good Aero, that overdriven lamp is fucking bright bro, looking tight.
Peace.

I decided to take some temp readings to see what overdriving the PL-L was doing:

Here is a 55w PLL running at 55w temp taken where the glass tube meets the socket.

Here is a 55w PL-L running at 55w temp taken from the end of the tubes.

Here is a 55w PL-L running at 96w temp taken where the glass tube meets the socket.

Here is a 55w PL-L running at 96w temp taken at the end of the tubes.

i can see differences, but what are they converting too?

obviously we can now see scortching of the plants closest, but do you feel that the over-driving PL-L is performing better so that the increased distance of bulb to canopy can justify it?

i guess well find out with the bud growth actually..:abduct:

Yes, I need some way to measure current from the wall, and a way to measure light intensity to make this more scientific. If I don't get those tools sometime soon, we will have to judge by the buds I suppose.. The light is alot more intense than the two on either side, I feel this will justify the increase in heat based on my eyes...lol
