Durban Poison, great idea about the rubber bands. I have 2 cuttings in transitional pots that are clay, I used rubberbands to start LST today.

Bong, I top them and LST. I pinch at the 4th set of leaves and sometimes 8th. This is before I would begin LST. I usually wait and start LST right when I put them in flower, during that rapid growth period.

Here is the twist in the stem I was talking about.

See the other branches reaching up?

This one was ready to have another branch tied down, we still have the one on the base of the stem, but now two branches, one on the right and one on the left.

when i used to grow in rubbermaid tub's under a 150hps. i did lot's of lst.
i alway's found that string tied in a yo yo knot, sort of like a cowboy lasso so when the stem grew the string would not have any trouble expanding to the size of the stem

I have been using LST for a while now and i use the push pins that you tack stuff up on the wall with and string..not time consuming and i can tie or retie all my plants within 30 minutes..it's only as time consuming as you make it..

Using LST you can get better results, since you can keep the lights lower and the plants shorter...also this method helps to reduce plant #'s but it does have downsides..like extended veg time for optimum results and the need for bigger pots if you are growing from seed... from clone you can go with smaller pots of course..

I always start LST at wbout the third week of veg, and keep the ties made until the last few weeks of flowering..

if you do it right you really don't have to make but 8-10 ties per plant ..and those arent' done all at once..

A nice demonstration in this thread ....keep up the good work guys and gals. :joint:

only reason i use lst is i cant fit a 7 ft plant in a 4 ft cab. without it...i just tie the branches down to the main stalk....peace

Hmm, my plants went into flower 4 days ago and on the bigger plant, the top leaves are covering a lot of the lower part... Is almost a week into flower too late for me to LST? Is it definitely too late to top the plant?
Looking to harvest around mid december...

I usually start my LST right when I put them in flower and they go crazy for that first 2 weeks of growth. Not too late at all.

I should probably mention, the idea behind LST is to use the main stalk as a pipeline per say for the other shoots to turn into bud sites instead of little whimp branches. Some people even just bend the whole stock over and hit it into flower and call it good. IT can really be used at any time, but if you start during veg for a couple of weeks you'll get the best results that way. Otherwise you can tie buds down that are covering other buds from getting light and it does help.

munkie - I would say your fine to tie things so your not having a giant shader there. It IS LOW stress =). It just wont be as advantageous for you right now, but you'll still benefit by helping the shaded bud site(s) get light.

An update on mine.

I tied another branch down today on this plant, three now. There is one in the back that you can't see.

This one I havent tied any more down on, I keep bringing the main stem back down whenever it stretches.

I was away for the weekend but finally got home. Decided to give LST a try. I think my plants are going to benefit a lot from this!

You will see the difference very soon munkie. Hate to update too often but they grow so quickly during this time, I adjusted the ties a bit today and went ahead and took pics again. This much change in 3 days, this is why I love growing herb. It is so satisfying to see them change so quickly.

Are yall with me???? hahahaha

Mr. Nevermind

I am against training in flower. i would rather let the plant focus its energy in Bud production not on making new or stroner branches. I only do LST in veg thn once i flip the lights I take all the tyes off.
