A Taste of Africa from Malawi

it is dry and crunchy and burned through. The leaves are crispy but I run an LED. I am figuring it must be nitrogen burn (dont know how unless its the organic soil). I flushed the soil, but may not have gotten to it in time and the damage is coming out. in 7th week, so I will limp along.

I removed the affected leaves, removed one plant to create less overcrowding. The buds didnt seem affected, only certain leaves on the malawi and Kalichina. I may have been overwatering them causing increased humidity in the room, but my airflow in and out is continuous and strong. Temp is 80 degrees, but humidity is 50% so I will lower it.

Man this strain has turned me back i to an every day smoker! I been mixing it 50/50 with a 1:1 cbd strain i got, and the high has been dope as fuck. It lasts for hella long, 3-4 hours, but with no come down, I dont get the paranoid shaky feeling i get from some sativas, this is just feel good, slightly more energetic, but higher than giraffe pussy. This is from 11 week samples. Lookin forward to full term, at 12 right now thinkin 1-2 more weeks...

Hi Lincoln2018,

As we have commented previously through emails, the problem in the leaves could be due to excessive water in your waterings and for don't let the soil dry completely until next watering. Also, the burn leaf tips is usually a sing of excess in fertilizer, usually nitrogen. Hope they are doing better, but since the buds are developing nicely i wouldn't worry too much, it's almost impossible to recover the leaf scars once plants pass mid flowering as they are almost fully focused on the bud production.

Thanks dubi!:thanks:
Is there a somewhere I can find the info on the different pheno types and variations? I know its probably in this thread but quite a bit of pages to look through...
Here goes a zoomed out cleaned up version of that nug.

What a lovely pic, love the shiny look of the bud with the reflection on the crystal!

So happy to hear it GET MO :dance013: If you are enjoying so much with your early harvested Malawi with barely no drying and curing, wait 2-3 months more until try the well ripen buds, it can only get better and better .... and may try to smoke her once you are more used to her without mix her with the other CBD strain, the high will be a rocket to the moon :D

How much longer u that nk on this one dubi?

All these are being grown under a single 315w cmh. I think they would have tighter nugs under some de lighting or even a 630cmh.

I think this girl is done?

One week flushing. Kept her because was shooting pistils and temps have dropped (otherwise spider mites would return).

Here are the 13 week nugs. They been in the dark for last 3 days since I took these samples, plan on choppin tomorrow at 95 days...

Pheno 2, this one looked like it could have went to 16 weeks, but I need the tent. Ima cut it half down n throw the rest outside to see how it finish up. More woody earthy smell than the others, semi sweet durban smell in the background.
picture.php

Pheno 3, the runt, but maybe my favorite, this one has nice crystal coat n smells like engine oil on fresh cut wood, with some incency pungent smell, and hints of vanilla and honey.
picture.php

Pheno 4, this one had extreme foxtailing, same kinda smell as pheno three but a lil more sweetness in it, less vanilla more sweet carrots.
picture.php

Pheno 5, this one is most dense, second best yield to pheno 2. Very spicy almost burn your nose, like earthy raddishes with sweet carrot smell too. Smells kinda dangerous.

Thats it for now, I will chop tomorrow and dry and cure, as well as make a few malawi cobs. Try n get smoke reports in a few months or so. Think I may pick up some more of these seeds from the ace sight too, as these were from attitude and may have been a previous drop since I got um about 2 years ago, and Id like to try the more current version, but what a unique strain!

i've finished the malawi fem batch cycle. i've put photos with some added info into my malawi 2018 album. check if you're interested. it is ca. 320gr with an extremely worn out 400 hps bulb so i'm happy. i say that u may easily exceed a g/w dry weight if u provide the necessary background + select the right clones. the malawi is a strong and tasty+stinky variety (one can feel a little earthy-sweet smellin dogshit-rotten armpit smell). some sensitiveness to mildew was experienced, so it's highly recommended that u ventillate as much as u can. conclusion: i feel honoured that i could grow this variety. respect.

Sorry i couldn't reply on time about the best moment to harvest your Malawi females, repuk and GET MO, but i fully trust on your intuition, criteria and connection with your plants :)

repuk, the Malawi in your last post looks perfectly done to me, maybe a bit overripe for some, but sometimes with Malawi it is interesting to do it :D

GET MO, so glad you have enjoyed so much with your Malawi's growing experience.

As you correctly pointed out, pheno 2 may needed 10-14 days more of flowering, but the rest look like they were harvested in the right moment! ;)
Can't wait for your smoke reports after a few months of curing and getting familiarized with the different females.
Congrats on your harvests mates! :tiphat:

Hi hobbi ur :)

Congrats on your Malawi harvest! A really good outcome for an exhausted 400 w lamp :respect: Glad Malawi provided you with strong and stinky flowers for the upcoming months.

You are right, Malawi is a bit sensible with powder mildew, some phenos are more resistant but the killer phenos i like the most are usually a bit sensible.

Thanks for sharing your Malawi experience with us!

Just tested mine yesterday... noticed a very subtle hazey touch (incensey?) when bagging her, main aroma (subtle) being an "oily" vanilla.

Even with the pests problems, this lady foxtailed a lot and packs a punch.

I didn't notice how deep it hit me until realized I had been 3 hours straight into listening music in complete and absolute bliss with a very focused high.

Even being "green" and potent, it doesn't do that kind of "mind reset" other potent sativas induce when uncured. Absolutely clean landing, really impressed.

Hello everyone, it's been a while since I have posted. I've got Malawi in the greenhouse now. I did not try to force flower them, so it looks like I'm in for a long flowering outdoors, so hopefully the greenhouse will help them ripen properly. I have 3 female Malawi from standard seeds and 2 nice males. The first 2 pictures are M-1, which was the last to show her sex. You can see from the second picture, she hasn't been in flower long. She had a lot of purple on her stalk and leaf stems when she was younger, but now that is all gone (not from cold). She is the tallest, thinnest stalks and the longest inter-node spacing. Her leaves are long and very narrow.
The next 2 pictures are M-4. She has medium inter-node spacing, medium length and width leaves. She was the second to the last to show pistils.
The last pic is M-5, the first female to show her sex, about 2 weeks before M-4, very early. She is the biggest of all of them. Her leaves are long and wide (widest of the 3), thick stalk and very tight inter-node spacing.
This is my first time growing Malawi, so I will keep you all posted; I will for sure need some help around harvest time. EC=1.6, pH=6.5 and flushing every 3 weeks. N is pretty low right now and they seem happy so far.
Thanks for stopping by. I will post the males later.

Malawi Male

Malawi Male

Here is M-3, one of the 2 Malawi males I have M-2 is the other). The clone next to him is of him; I put him into flower to find out it's sex and at the same time, M-3 decided to show his sex at the same time, so that is why the clone is in flower at the same time. I still have an extra clone of him that I saved. M-3e showed big balls on the main stalk about 3 weeks before the first female even showed a calyx. I have a second male in flower also, but I have paper sacks on this one, covering the pollen sacks and keeping him separate as I don't have an extra room for him. I will post my 3 GT's later, they are touching the top of the greenhouse. I did not get a GT male, so I have crossed this male into my most Thai pheno and maybe cross the offspring into another (or 2) GT clone(s) until I get the one I'm looking for.
Other than making regular seeds, I have no breeding experience and very little pure sativa experience so I'm here to learn and am always grateful for any help or advise.
Thanks for stopping by. Peace, God bless
