A Taste of Africa from Malawi

wow. wow wow wow. these girls LOVE the outdoors. today was their first pruning. freeing up some of the small growth on the first two internodes after the cotyledons and a topping. slabbed some aloe on the cuts of one malawi to see what the rage is about. i took advantage of doing this "purposeful" stressing to get a smell out of the plants as well. during the last update i gave, i found the little caterpillar that made a home in one of the malawi mediums. it got a little bigger and with more size comes an insatiable hunger. nearly the entire seedling took a beating but today i noticed something in the odor it gives off. it's very "traditional" marijuana. i can't describe the variables in the bouquet, only that it has a almost pungent odor to it. hopefully with time and getting to know her, i will be able to better describe this scent. interesting to note is that its the only malawi/purple malawi youngling that smells this way. the othe malawi has a softer smell and the purple's have a tinge of citrus / lemon to it. very interesting indeed.

Purple Malawi 1 (PM1)

what a cutie. compared to her sisters, she seems to be a lot taller. i have counted her internodes and seems to be only 1-2 nodes ahead in terms of overall growth, she is also bigger in volume. very thick stem for a month and 1 week worth of growth. good thing i kept the pruned material to see if it would clone. she has a particular "spicy" hint in her smell, i know as time goes on and we get to know each other, i will be better able to describe her character. thick stem, overall nice branching pattern and she loved her haircut the other day. i periodically check for peats and feeding levels and i don't seem to see any issues with the nutrient levels. let's hope it stays this way. praise to jah

My only malawi pheno i ended up with, nearing the finish line. This one seems made for outdoors at 41N. Two big thumbs up dubi!

PM1 / PM2 update

PM1 / PM2 update

lots can happen in a few days it seems. seeing some more phenotypic expression from all the ladies. there's been some heavy rainfall and the medium got a good even soak, plus the extra wind has beefed up the stalks. the only other thing i am noticing is that they are starting to attract a bit of attention from spider mites. they have all exploded with new growth from the topping/pruning they received. it makes you wonder what they will look like when they are older. relocation will be necessary sometime in the next week and hopefully in the next update, they look more like trees! anybody recognize these phenos?

My malawi is picking up stem now. i got her in her 75 gallon hole and shes loving these 85F temps we are having. she got really skinny leaves already! cant wait till croptober for this lady.

Hey SativaLighting i also upped the sizes of my holes this year. my smallest is 45 gallon so im exspecting big bitches. they tell me the bigger the roots the bigger the fruits so we shall see. i use to just plant in 2.0 Cf holes. its hard work guerilla growing and packing in as much soil as i did this year but we will see how she turns out.

Thank you all for keep sharing your beautiful Malawi flowers
It's a pleasure to see such great results from many different growers.

I'm very happy with current state of Malawi breeding, the line easily produces very vigorous and high yielding sativas with very high flower/leaf ratio, very dense flowers, very high resin production and extreme potency coming from the old and new Malawi Killer parental plants .... until the point that i'm considering not to inbred more the line and keep it like that in the current release (for regular and feminized).

Malawi regular stock is about to finish, there's a bit of Malawi fem left to face the outdoor season.
We will reproduce Malawi again in the second half of the year.

Hi dubi!

Did ACE get all their strains tested by Fundacion Canna?
I started going through the strains for each thread but got a little tired of searching to be honest.

Would love to go through all the lab analysis and compare strains to each other in the process.
If you got more strains analyzed I would suggest a thread posting all these analysis results for easy access. Or maybe release them on your website?

I for one would love that and it would also improve my regard of ACE as a reputable and serious breeder even more. I think it could only help.
I'm generally speaking a bit frustrated by the lack of cannabinoid and terpene profiles released by breeders. Very rare to find any info like that at all and I imagine it is easy to get your strains analyzed for breeders in this day and age.

Any plans on terpene profile analysis for your strains in the future? I would assume Fundacion Canna is equipped to do that too?

Cheers and greetings

Hi bigbadbiddy,

Yes, we are in the process to analyze all our parental plants for cannabinoid and terpene profile. The results are being published at our website (in the strain pictures and blog) and here in a thread dedicated to this matter:

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=323725

Lately i have a bit more of time so i will upload all the results with comments as soon as i can.

thank YOU for offering such passionately raised genetics, Dubi. it has been a pleasure growing Malawi so far, the green and purple phenos are absolutely wonderful. she is already creating elaborate bouquets unlike ive ever smelled before. a sativa does particularly shine in my climate and i will be growing malawi from now on. time to sample the rest of the catalogue. perhaps zamaldelica. panama. i would like some happy and some trippy weed to compliment....however im going to tale the malawi. heres to a blessed year. praise jah

I have 2 Malawi's in veg just lost my sole Zamaldelica due to low level in the rez but will run those in due time. The Malawi are not very branchy so far but just topped both of them.

Tribe, the malawis are a little slow out of the gate but apparently i have some of the shorter phenotypes. they have responded well to a topping and the smaller one was ravaged when younger by caterpillars. i'm glad it's bounced back and its special, it has a very powerful aroma coming from the stem already! good luck on your selection, these are lovely plants. i am very sorry to hear for your loss with the zamaldelica. i wish to grow this strain eventually.

Hello! I have two fem malawis this year. One of them had health problems when very young, so she took time to recover and did not grew as much as the other, anyway she managed to get 1 m tall. As El niño was being to hard on them, I had to flower them indoors, under 600w. As climate is getting better, I use to take them outside during sun time. They both turned to be quite long, at 8 and a half weeks of flowering they look really far from being ready yet. I took sime pictures today. Do you have any advise on the pheno? They look pretty similar so I'd guess they are both the same pheno.

Cheers!

you know, im glad you mentioned this because for a few days i considered that i derped it with too much of "X" nutrient. that Malawi shares some traits with my Purple Malawi #2 but the leaf traits are exclusive to Malawi, not the purple.

im very excited to sample Malawi, the pheno that got mauled by caterpillars has a very strong aroma coming from it and it hasnt even shown sex yet. getting such wonderful gene expression from only germinating 4 seeds is very nice. breeders pack next, for sure

thanks @dubi for the hard work on Malawi, my first batch of standard seed grew well and found a few fantastically deadly plants to clone. I'm so impressed I'm planning a larger seed selection round. Getting ready to order, but have a couple of questions.

Is there any significant difference between the Malawi standard and Malawi fem genetics ? Different parents ? Should I get both fem and standard seed ?

I'm also hoping to find a male that would most likely pass on the potency of the killer Malawi. Are there any common marker traits associated with the killer pheno ?
