Ahoy Mates,

Quick question, whats the advantage of inbreeding a supposedly pure landrace strain?

Best

there may be specific phenotypes within the landrace line that you prefer to make more common or dominant, such as decreased flowering time or more branching or specific odors/tastes or intensity of high, etc.

Ahoy

Yes, that is correct, but in this case whats the mission?. Are you stabilizing the ONE strain? (the malawi?)

Am asking cause am busy with the same plans. To stabilize a herming landrace cross.

1 strain about 4 phenos. Just dont have the space for 50 plant run to choose some nice ones.

hi malawi lovers

hi malawi lovers

Hi ona, the structure is mostly natural, the only thing I did was to remove the apex (around 15 cm of plant material) after a failed folding exp.
I believe starting them under t5 allowed the plant to develop side branching without stretching like crazy on the way up. I did not have other lighting to exp on the side but sounds logical to me.
Anyhow let me tell you that this strain has some strong branching genes. I have another m girl in the room and she has the same general shape.

Tangwena,, Since I have other varieties in the room I kept the 12/12 schedule. When S skunk and holy grail kush will be harvested I might go to 11/13 and then 10/14 for the last weeks if needed.

I've had some great experiences with Malawi and would gladly recommend them to anyone! At the moment I am working on reversing a Malawi fem to cross with Lemon Kush from Female Seeds. My hope is that the Malawis vigor and potency will carry through while cutting down on flowering time and maybe odor as well.

This is not a stinky strain and makes up for any losses elsewhere, with great potency.

I'll beg to differ on this one. In my experience Malawi has been a high odor strain, but not in a conventional skunky or fuel-like way. Just very oily, hashy and pungent. Especially in flower or immediately after watering.

The Malawi I have grown over the years have all STUNK, to high hell. Smelled almost like a giant glass of juice, juice made from a juicer with veggie and fruits combined. Like fermented carrot sweet funk. Always had the filters running full chat with the Malawi in the rooms.

Good looking plants! Great thread!

I have had woody and fruity plants and none have been an odor problem.
They don't stink up a room like any other stinky strain I have grown.
If you put your nose into the bud, of course it will stink and should.
I will keep looking for these super stinky plants you are talking about.

I grow for potency and not just stinky plants.

To each their own.

I just found one plant yesterday that has been showing a couple of pollen sacks developing, so I thought this one was male. Then yesterday I saw some calyx with pistils. Not in the same spots, in different areas.

Was thinking of losing it. Still need to watch it and see what happens.
