I believe you brother! My situation is that i step all over them and im on tripods. Plus i use disconnects to check insividual aie gaps and take plants in/out as well as i flush also. Run perpetually also for the most part. So my situation may be more dynamic in terms of dirupting them. Mine are so close together... dunno tho. Def not saying you are wrong or that approach is at all wrong. For my little 4 site room the hardware cost still adds up so what im doing is mos def the costly route.
I dont have to consider scale or other factors like you do either so i def not saying that. So far its working well i do have to use a shammy to soak up the little bit that spills during a change out or switch to flush.

my 3 set ups now are in individual 4 foot by 4 foot by 6 foot cabinets.each has its own res its own 40 gallon drum to fill the res with the float and its own 465 gph pump and timer.the totes are inside a cabinet and the hoses do go through holes cut in the plywood so there are elevation changes but have run flawless for the most part for over 7 crops now.my set up has no way to change the airgap with the 3 gallon roughneck totes since the tote is only a little over 6 inches tall.
the neoprene hoses are directly in the res and the 3 gal roughneck totes with the holes cut using the step drill bit.none of the 3 gallon totes and hose connection have leaked but after draining and cleaning after a run,i have problems with air lock ups in the drain hoses.
i have had 2 reservoirs leak, one after i leaned on it while repairing something next to it.i had to silicone around the hose and hole to finish the run.it slowed the leak so after run i replaced it.
i had someone do some wiring by one of the cabinets and that caused a leak after he stepped on a few of the hoses at the res.
the air lock ups after flushing and cleaning have been my biggest pain in the ass.
my new room i am building is going to be set up for 1 plant a week.it is going to be 12 by 12 by not quite 7 feet high.
each plant will be tied to a vertical rack.i will be trying some new led cob lights i built lighting vertical.if that doesnt please me then i will go back to weed donuts around 2 600 hps stacked also on vertical racks.
since i am trying something new,i like the individual system i asked about due to ease of cleaning and ease of rearranging if i am not happy with the new design.
having one tote to remove from the grow with no hoses to disconnect except for the float valve supply sounds like i will be able to clean better and have almost no chance of leaks to happen.

I've often daydreamed about that movie, Honey I Shrunk The Kids, wishing I could shrink down really small and then go do battle with broad mites, root aphids, etc.. This morning I was opening one of the bay doors at a grow facility of mine and saw this black shadow scurry across the wall. Mind you, I've never actually seen a black widow outside of a jar or container, but there was no mistaking this bitch.

A buddy has a couple he keeps as pets so she's being RE-homed instead of executed. Black widows scare me half to death. Spent 5 days in the hospital last year with a staph infection that nearly took my finger. Doc said it was a spider bite of the non-venomous variety. Imagine how jacked I would be from a black widow!

Anyhow, since I'm too scared to shrink myself down and do glorious battle with a seemingly formidable opponent, I'll just drive her over to my buddy's house. I think he's got an extra grasshopper waiting.

Oh the joys of gardening.

crazy, man. i've only seen a few widows in person and the first one scared me. we were in my buddy's vw van, one of those old school ones, and it literally dropped down and hung right in front of my face. made me jump! you're right, there is no mistaking the red hour glass.

I'd take a low-G pushover in a teeter-totter any day over dealing with the contents of that jar!

some people are highly sensitive to the different spider venoms. i know of one young 20'ish yr old healthy male who died from a brown recluse. Apparently its not very pretty nor fun, nor is it necessarily quick....

i've had at least one bad bite of something where the flesh at the site went pretty dark but never necrotic or anything, got to be about a quarter size or so but that was it and it got better.

Av8or - I'm in Australia and spiders scare the fuck out of me! That's why I ALWAYS keep my growroom as clean as possible. Not out of good habits or OCD-ness - just pure fear of anything with eight legs getting anywhere near me. Speaking of eight legs, I'd rather listen to One-Direction than even look at a photo of a spider.

McKush - you talking about the biowave harmonic thingamie?
Some studies were done in NZ with tomatoes not too long ago and they actually seem quite legit. Could all be unicorn farts though. Who knows?

Anyway, I just wanted to show off my latest PPK build!
My PVC manifold I made last run looked nice but was too rigid and unyielding and I wasn't able to get to my plants properly for training/maintenance.
Here is my latest build/manifold where I used some nice soft and squishy 19mm poly-pipe to build the manifold (with plenty of excess for moving plants around the space!):

Cheers!

Hiya Globs - lol no, i know the thing you are talking about. I meant D9s geo domes.

Your newer set up looks good. Should help if you need to slide the sites around or pull them back as they grow and enlarge

What type of fitting did you use for inserting the flexible poly into the buckets?

Tire valve veteran here checking in here.

Can someone please post links to individual posts in which I can see and understand how to recreate the latest (post-tire valve) version of PPK?

howdy!

i have grown a 22.5 oz plant in a 3.5 bucket with 2.5 gal of medium. if you use a 3.5 in a 5 you will have sufficient depth to operate with most pumps and your idea to raise them relative to the pump chamber will work fine. this will not work using a 3.5 in a 3.5 as it will not leave you much depth after the "air gap".

Hello D9,

When you say "a 3.5 in 5" are you talking about a 3.5 with a tailpiece ON TOP of a 5 with a cover on it? I am trying to quickly catch up on about 3 years worth of innovations here and I see that you introduced a full pulse version in which one bucket appears to sit inside of another.

and i strongly recommend the 5/8" neoprene hose to 13/16" hole connection. i know it looks stupidly flimsy and leak prone on camera but i swear they don't leak. hundreds of them now. once you install one you will realize how hard they would be to even kick loose.

i hope i have answered your questions and welcome aboard!

And this replaces the old tire valves? No grommets or anything to hold the hose in place?

hey buddy! i was wondering where you went!

yep, a 3.5 gal inside a 5 gal works great for medium sized plants, say up to about a lb and a half. a regular 1.5" plumbing tailpiece.

this works with the pulse feed not the flood.

also, if you go into various hardware stores in the garden hose dept you will see either goodyear or continental black 5/8" id rubber hose. not vinyl.

drill a precise 13/16" hole with a step bit. cut the hose at a sharp angle so it sticks mostly throught the hole and then pull it the rest of the way in with some channel-locks or something. it fits so tight that it doesn't leak. and because it's 5/8" it will never clog.

it's black neoprene rubber just like uniseals.

it's a big labor saver and speeds up construction. best of all it's CHEAP!!!

50' for around 30 bucks. no fittings no glues.

good to hear from you again!

High 9.. hope all is well in Deltaland.. 9, I did do the 3.5 inside the 5 gallon bucket but had only a (as I remember) 2 inch long, maybe 3" wick (1.5"diam) which left me with a very small GAP.. and many roots in the rez. Ive since gone to 3.5 inside a 7 gallon bucket to obtain the space need for a 3.5"-4" GAP. As I said above using those WP fittings w 1/2" tubing has worked but the 5/8" hose seems a good alternative for the future. Easier to source than the tubing and cheaper.. TKS again.:tiphat:

hey buddy! i was wondering where you went!

I've been out of the game for a couple of years, laying low and now am on the market for a rental in which to grow again. It's always fun to check into your threads. I love the PPK cloning tubs and the DIY humidifier.

This sounds like a great innovation. Thank you! Very good to talk to you too.

Hey guys, I am just about built out on a 4 site ppk. I am using 3.5 gallon square buckets stacked on top of each other for the plant sites. Unfortunately I was a little over anxious and I put 3" tail pieces on my top buckets when I should have used 2".

My question is can I get away with the 3" tail pieces or should I get new top buckets and install 2" tail pieces. With my setup I have the ability to run a max air gap of 6" and my media depth is going to be be around 9".

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
