a ppk for a 6 plant limit

Question for everybody running the 7 gal feed dish on top of a 3.5 gal bucket: How secure are the feed dishes just sitting on top of the buckets?

I am about to set up another 60 PPK sites. I currently use the 70 qt muck buckets for the bottom container and the 7 gal feed dishes sit right inside the muck buckets. I can save a considerable amount of money going with 3.5 gal buckets over the muck buckets, however, I am concerned about the stability of the feed dish just sitting on the bucket. I'm not a "bull in a china shop" so to speak, but i would be lying if I told you guys I have never bumped the buckets at all.

Im not the biggest expert on this subject but have ran a few cycles with 7gal on 3.5s. the wick/drain does a pretty good job of holding it in place. Not to mention that u obviously will be growing a pretty large plant when using that design, so u will be adding some sort of extra structure to train to, or tying branches to something, that will help stabilize the plant in place.

Imo, u can bump it n be ok. but if u hit it hard enough u can knock it over. once the plants large enough to tie, u wont be knocking it over.

Check out some of av8ors recent pics of his set ups. Pretty large grow situation, incorporating the 7 gal on 3.5s. that said, im sure the 7 gal in the muck tub is certainly more stable.

Hey Ram - check out my early photos in my album for some ideas.

I use 5gal buckets but I use their *lids* also, and don't just set them on the bucket. So I would think you could get a lid for the 3.5gal and cut a hole in the top, once the tub with plant/water is sitting on that it should not dislocate easily, short of being knocked over by some extreme force. So you shouldn't need to worry about the tub sloshing side to side or becoming tilted.

Plus as MM points out, they are often tied to a trellis or latice to support them. Even without the supports the weight of the 7gal tub filled with wet turface is somewhat substantial and should not move easily - would guess that the tub is 20-30lbs wet with plant.

Ugh, root aphids. That's what I get for getting a clone in coco from a stranger. I'm going to try dunking the plant in H2O2 and SM-90 and hanging some sticky traps. Not much to do 3 weeks into flower but ride it out. If anyone has suggestions I'm all ears.

Root aphids! My favorite! Not to worry, boss. Honestly, hot water for 20 minutes is the single most effective killer of root aphids I've seen yet. Orthene and riptide definitely do it if you have no other choice, but drenching/soaking the root ball for 20 minutes in 120-125℉ water worked best for me. I followed that with a root bennies and then right back to normal feed schedule.

Oh....as a possible technique, I adjust the thermostat on my hot water heater to get 125 ℉ water. Pop the root ball out of the bucket and put it in one without holes in the bottom.

I'll give that a try. I think I'll just screw a plug into the bottom of the tailpipe and fill the actual container instead.
Any advice on what root supplements you'd recommend?

Oh, here's last week's update as well. I tied down the plant to open the center so the light coverage is better. You need everything you can get with a 250w light! I'm really impressed with the growth out of this Jackberry F2.

i am running 3 gallon roughneck totes stacked.there is no adjusting the air gap.it is about 3 to 3 1/2 inches.that is around 12 inches tall total

that is to say each 3 gallon tote is 6" tall: 2 x 6" = 12".. can you put up a link for them, looked, cant find them that size. but sometimes I cant see the forest thru the trees.

the tote is 7 inches but due to the recess it only ends up being a little 12 inches tall stacked.

Roughneck Storage Box - 3 gal : (#2213)
Size: 15.8" L x 10.3" W x 7" H
.home depot and menards both stockthem.menards is a little cheaper

The hot water bath seems to have done the trick. I doubt I killed them all, but I think they're under control for now. Thanks, av8or!
Here's the start of week 5.

Welp, plant's dead. I guess 120 degree water for 5 minutes was too much. The picture above is from about 24 hours after the hot water, but looking at that picture now I can see the leaves starting to curl. I'll do better about sterilizing any outside grow media in the future to keep this from even being necessary in the first place.

if it was my plant and I wasn't ready to reload just yet, I'd keep the plant in the tent, in the pot and just keep the light on it and keep watering it... but maybe just water only and just see what happens.

A majority of the roots may be damaged... but there may be some that are still hanging on. The buds are fine. The stalk is fine. The plant will translocate nutes and moisture at all cost to keep the bud going to give it a chance to survive and reproduce.

That's nature, survive and reproduce. You'll still get something and probably more than you think you will at this moment.

Some of us cut food completely at say, week 5 of a 9-week flower period.

OK guys, its been a couple months since I have peeked in on you ppk guys. So I'm poking around in here and discover that you have switched to perlite, halos, ditched the res. and some other changes. So which thread do I read up on this? Thanks.

Yes, GR, the PPK HAS evolved/morphed into producing crazy sized plants. The PPK brothers 'that have the space' have taken it to a new level. It used to be a simple process producing 1-2 lb plants that has grown into 'some' talkin 4 lb plants, indoors and I'm betting they'll do it.. (GL, brother). but with less space, a rez & a control for each PPK isn't feasible. I grow ina small tent and still use the simple, old school, ppk processes: 1 volume rez, 1 control rez (float valve) and 1 pump rez. with JacksPro+CA w turface only. Which do you use? It all, pretty much, will take you to the golden harvest. These guys are good.

Sweet! Are there any grow journals where I can get up to speed on the changes? I'm getting ready to start renovations on a building, and I'm trying to decide on a grow technique. I currently run under current, and I'm not sure I want to use it in the new area.

Rayson, lI'd be searching PPK here at ICMAG. Delta9nsx started the PPK in the thread 'Passive Plant Killer' (PPK, although all the pics are gone!), av8tor threads follows D9.

Currently the thread 'McPPK' has good and most recent directions too. There are others that carry on with the PPK. Conceptually the PPK seems complex but in reality, once set up, there is little to do in comparison to other styles of growing. GL.

Hey fellow PPK'ers! I bought a new place and have been working feverishly to get it build up. Sorry for the leave of absence! I'll be back soon to start an entirely new thread titled, "A PPK FOR A 6 POUND LIMIT."

The bud pic is of a plant I harvested two weeks ago. She pulled 4.5 pounds dried down to 10% with no stems even. I sent the whole plant to the extractor so I didn't want stems in my bud! If I would have harvested for flower instead of wax, I probably wouldn't seen her tip the scales at 5 pounds dry.

The veg pic is my next attempt. She's a little neglected as she was temporarily vegged in a tool room in the new shop while I build her a 12x12x10' room. I'm installing a hood over the top of the plant today. Just got her moved into the room last night. I'll give her a few days to bounce back, then I'll hack up her insides and flipadelphia.

Oregon has a six pound limit on flowering plants indoors. I'm hoping to reach that limit with this plant.

Oh, she's a chemdog x haze.
