Well pump

Well pump

Reading through your thread I noticed the well pump discussion. I used to install water systems for houses and nurseries. The number one way to kill a pump is to cycle it on and off. The bigger tank will help but it's best to use enough water when watering to keep the pump running to avoid the on-off cycling. The storage tanks are a good idea for a back up but their main purpose is to create a cushion otherwise when the pump turned on or off it would creat whats called water hammer. Which kind of shocks the pipes. We sometimes installed 2500 to 5000 gallon storage tanks for people with bad wells that only produced a gallon or two per minute. You can then run a booster pump off that to increase pressure if needed. Just a thought I thought I'd share after reading if you didn't know already. Your grow looks great, very healthy looking plants.

Sorry I meant to write the pressure tank 119 gallon in the one which is primarily for a cushion not the storage tanks which store water.

I actually have a 100 gallon pressure tank that gets water from 2500 storage tank fed via a booster pump. I am actually adding a second larger pressure tank to avoid on off cycling on the booster pump. Is this feasible?

The 100 gallon pressure tanks actually hold less water because a lot of the tank is air. A tank with 1000 or 2000 gallons could may create enough pressure in itself especially if you garden is down hill with no pump at all. It's like the water towers you see in the city. You could pump the water up into it and run by gravity. If you wanted to have constant pressure there are pumps designed with a control box which will keep your water running at a steady pressure as long as you don"t exceed the gallons per minute your pump can pump. From what I know it's been a long time since I was a pumpman the extra tank wont stop the cycling you need to run enough water that the tank doesn't reach its shut off pressure therefore it will keep running. It may be hard to do that with your watering style so a constant pressure pump would be best where it ramps up and down slowly according to your water usage.

The Good Medicine is flowering the most and the rest of the garden is not far behind it. it seems about the same as last year on the flowering timing. its gonna be a hot next few days on the hill, close to 100F. next week or so it will be time to throw up some trellis. always shit to do.. spent couple hours today dirt biking in the forest.. working hard and playing harder

I really like a dirt bike….got a 04 yz250 and I ride it far less then I'd like. Once upon a time I was a very fast moto racer and now I'm just an old man. Really enjoy the ride though, like a reset button
