500 Gallon Raised Beds in the Foothills 2015

I am just saying that with you thinking your organic when buying in all that media is kinda silly. Up the OM in the soil and you will have better performance, cover it with polythene and it will grow with much less water..

Pictures mean nothing.. Sorry to offend you but your saying your organic but your not growing organically, period..

Learn how cultivate and not just grow a plant and things will improve on the soil tests and you will find the pH settle and the leaf samples will be showing the difference between your nursed soil and the re-amended.. Just start with 1 bed and see what is what, it can't hurt.. Have 2 beds tested see if i am talking shit or if your growing like a douche...

Your plants are really nice but with better soil would be bigger and full of luster. I would aim for 12-20% om content.. You might achieve this by topdressing fan leaves under plastic as the season continues I do not know.. Get it tested. It won't hurt.. As for using straw your test says your N is low as they can't test accurately for this as it is mobile..

I can tell you that mulching with a lignified matter like barley straw or hay will likely cause drawdown and significantly reduce the N causing the plants to not fill the bed and use all the media nutriment what is wasteful..Also next season you will have different levels because of the plants not rapeing the soil by deep into flower..

Do a brix test and see if your over 12 I doubt it... Not with that pH you won't be.. But Meh you got pictures

i see you talkin but you aint sayin shit. Back it up or get the fuck out! No one asked for your bitch opinion.:tiphat:

Beautiful plants! It's amazing you can grow such beautiful plants in such shit soil. You must be usin' black magic.:witch
Dude talkin' about crap soil and he may have a point numbers wise. Of course numbers mean something and soil science does have a lot to offer but it ain't everything. Sometimes nature kinda knows what it's doing and can make it work almost regardless what the numbers say. That beautiful Cali. sun is a wonderful thing along with some sweet water. Works wonders.
Obviously the plants are happy now. He said that later in flower you may run into a little trouble; maybe. He probably has a point about building soil and it probably is the most correct way to go and may be better long term. We don't know what your native soil is like so it may take tons of amendments anyway to get it going. All speculation.
He might also help his case if he would learn the primary school lesson taught in a kids movie, Mary Poppins.
A spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down, in the most delightful way. In other words in you have some info. to offer and you offer it in a respectful and kind way, it will be accepted or at least considered, more often than not. Also the person you're talking to won't be offended.
When you tell a guy who is growing some big beautiful plants that he has crap soil and he's using shitty gardening practices, which is obviously not the case with such healthy looking plants, then any possibly good advice is going to be instantly rejected because you were offensive. So when do offer info. in a jerky fashion you've wasted your time. Do smart guys waste their time? For a guy who is supposedly so smart, to not know something so elementary in dealing with people, makes you wonder how smart he really is.
The guy needs to get out of his head, use his heart a little more and realize he's dealing with people and guess what genius, people don't like it when you offend them. How's that for rocket science.:asskick:
Keep on growin' your big, beautiful plants in your shitty soil, with your shitty gardening practices Stanky and we'll keep on enjoying them. At least most of us will.

it comes in 5ft rolls and we use bailing wire to connect em. they are double stacked so 10ft cages
Thanks simple as it is that was puzzling me. Are you going to do second/third layer with remesh or switch to netting as the get bigger?? ( I mean obviously they probably aren't going to get any bigger because your rookie soil is so stupid and your plants most likely already have the AIDS )
Did you do any of the Skywalker crosses?? The Sky Lotus and RedEye Jedi are the most aggressive in my yard. Every one of my sky lotus is almost 7'. The majority of my blueberry hashplants are way more bushy then I had expected. Loaded with sites tho

i am going to do one more layer of remesh inside the pot and as wide as possible touching the inside edges of the bed. (6x6ft)

What are the pros and cons of digging out a whole and lining it with mixed soil versus the raised beds? I have the opportunity to put all my vegging plants outside for the first time. It's on a hillside near the house and I was thinking about digging out a trough and planting them all in the same combined bed dug out of the ground versus a whole raised bed. I was trying to keep them as low as possible and also the most simple setup. I would like to shy away from a greenhouse for simplicity and could possibly get more fancy next year. What are your thoughts? Sorry if I'm thread jacking, I just like your setup and know you know your bidness.

i dont have any experience with holes but I think the only "con" would be if your native soil has bad drainage, then the holes might be more vulnerable to overwatering. Also most people don't have a backhoe.

I agree and Also ill add that it depends on your situation. I have seen folks do it with great results in place with good drainage, no competing native roots. The bigger the hole the more work but better results.

Hey WDI!

you might see if you can put in something like a french drain if your on a hill side. you would just need to dig out a trench towards the downward side of the hill. <--- providing the hill is steep, if gentle slope then this would never help you. no practical experience here so take it with a grain
