Sucks about the dead seedling, I have had some bending over issues with seeds before, I tend to stake them with toothpicks until they can stand well on there own. I also will not necessarily have any fan blowing on them at all, from what I understand just having a vibration in the room will cause the stalks to thicken as well, as long as the pots are getting some of that vibration.

With your open area I would not be too concerned with in ventilation, you need fresh air, but your area is big, and will take a while before you need to be extracting air.

I would not worry to much about your plants, some will live, some will die, but you can always make more. Growing weed does not require much work, and you have like 4 to 5 months to do the work in. Take your time and enjoy the experience, I find it very soothing working with my plants.

OMG. :badday:

Why are my stems so weak? I turned my fan on for 30min today to cool off the room, since I added the 400w HPS. Not even blowing directly at the plants, and now Plant #1 fell over. I don't want it to die like the other!

How the hell do I get it back up? It's been a DAY now and it's not raising on it's own. :'( I set up my HPS and raised it so maybe it'll come up. If not, I'm going to prop it up and just dry out the stem while it's standing so it gets strong in that position. Is it bad to prop it up? I'll wait for an answer before I do.

As you can see, it's laying down.

hey bro

put more potting soil around the plants so they stand up straight or u could re pot them... i had the same problem i just add more soil... they are not goin to stand up on there own u have to do it...

PS Love the walmart fan mine works great to and dont put the fan on them till there a little bigger
and yes cab stands for cabinet... but what size walkin do you have..

also

you will have to adjust the light according so that the plants do not stretch alot but now that u got the hps u can keep it farther away just dont get it to close becouse HPS are FUCKIGN HOT and you dont want to burn them..

Also you might want to invest in a Mix Spectrum HPS bulb or conversion bulb for the vegetation stage...

forgive me for not remembering but are u doing 12/12 all the way through or 18/6

Omg 420grower to the rescue! thanks dude, seriously. I was worried i was going to lose 2 plants in a row! I think it was from not planting to seed deep enough + too much fan. THANKFULLY I planted the last two deeper than the first two, but if I have that problem again I'm just adding some more soil. That fixed it in one second :D

It's back upright, thanks again.

#3 and #4 were both planted on 6/18/07.

This is #3, growing really fast for some reason. #4 is still yet to pop out.

The grow space is 4ft x 3ft, and 5ft tall, but the closet is bigger as you can see.

I found this guide and I'm gonna try to stick to it.

The heat is already really apparent. My room outside the closet is even hot because of it already. I'm keeping the fan on the top of the room so that it doesn't blow the plants at all, but keeps air circulating. Once they get a bit bigger i'll have it blowing down there moreso.

Alright, I'll try and upgrade if possible since I've heard a lot of people say that it is worth it.

Grocery list:
MH Conversion Bulb
Two bottoms for the plant containers
Heavy-duty grounded timer.
Cheap watering tool (getting tired of pouring out of water bottles :p)

18/6 for veg and then moving to 12/12 for flower

 thanks for stopping by

Okay, this is weird. Do you see what's going on with this one?
When it was first popping out of the soil I knew something was wrong with one side of it, i was going to post but i thought it might go away....but it hasn't.

Lol, thanks dude. You seem to calm me down whenever I'm freaking out about stuff. It seems like it's starting to stretch out some day by day, so I'll keep cool. The main thing I'm wondering about is how the next set of leaves are going to grow, or if they even will.

Anyway, the next update won't be for another week or so...so we should know by then.

I always take stretched seedlings and put more soil up around their 'necks' this sometimes requires transplanting them into a bigger container, then dumping in a little soil to hold them up. Go find a twig outside and get some floss/thread and loosely tie it up... its not a big deal but I wouldn't just leave it...looks like a mutant to me...

They're all looking healthy. Starting tomorrow I am now going to start them on Fox Farm's nutrient schedule, according to their chart.

:woohoo::woohoo:
PS, I received all the seeds I mentioned earlier!
(AK48, Blue Mystic, Haze, Master Kush, Northern Lights, Papaya, Snow White, Super Skunk, White Rhino, White Widow)

hi Random99
looks like you are making execellent progress!

Congrats on saving that second stretcher!

I would recommend the Enhanced spectrum bulb before you get a MH conv.
You can use it the whole time, and your buds will love you for it.
Cheers!

Haha i know exactly what you mean about them being your children, i totally feel that way already and i'm not even that into it yet. i just wanna see them get big! omg it's going to be so hard if i have to kill some because they are male :( but heh that's the way it goes

i also smoke for anxiety and some anger issues (along with back pain, but that's another story). it sucks having to take a medicine consistently, but if i do, i'd rather it be marijuana. but as of lately it's getting so bad i think i'm also going to have to get something for the days that it gets more severe.

they have medical marijuana available here in nevada, was anxiety your reason for being on it? i wasn't sure if they would take psychological reasons or not.

anyway check back! peace  :joint:

 Thanks! I already bought and set up the MH conv. bulb a few days ago. It's so much whiter than the yellow HPS. But that's what I'm gonna stick with for my grow setup

few questions

  • [*]Any guesses on how long I should keep these specific ones in veg?

[*]What's average for veg, like 30-40 days?

[*]And then another 30-40 for flower usually?

[*]Should the bottom leaves start to wilt like this? (this is the biggest plant) (click for fullsize)

[*]Is this the first sign of sex? (click for fullsize) How much longer til I know for sure?

[*]When it's time to switch it to flower, what do I do? Is there a "dark period", and if so, for how long? Anything else I should know?

[*]When watering with the Fox Farm nutrients, should I use a spray bottle also and spray the leaves, or only use it for watering the soil? Should I not even spray water on the leaves?

[*]I ask that question because the biggest plant has a couple yellow dots on it, which I'm thinking might be from spraying the leaves once or twice with the nutrient mix. I've been watering it only with water for the past two days but the spots are still there. Any advice? Pics below

thanks in advance for any help :)

here's one more of the big one for size comparison

Hey, I'm on my first grow as well. Got some Apollo 11 in the soil out back. Man, you're taproots were alot bigger than mine were. I guess I should've let mine germ a little bit longer, because they still haven't popped through the soil. I'm giving them till the end of the week, then I might have to start all over again. That sucks. You're plants are looking well, though. I can't diagnose the yellowing on the leaves for you, as I'm still a noob, but I think it might have something to do with Nitrogen. Wait for a seasoned grower to tell you, and if I'm right, cool! And if I'm wrong, well then I learned something, huh? Good luck!

# Any guesses on how long I should keep these specific ones in veg?
they will double in height in flowering so you need to make sure you have room. and you need to remember that they will need bigger pots too.

# What's average for veg, like 30-40 days?
depends on circumstances

# And then another 30-40 for flower usually?
flowering time is pretty uniform, depending on the strain. probably 50 days for an Indica, and up to 80+days for a hardcore sativa...your avarage cross goes for 65 days...you need a magnifying glass to tell when the trichomes start turning for the best time to harvest. jock horror will probably take 70-80 days if you get a nice sativa pheno.
# Should the bottom leaves start to wilt like this?
yeah they do that...the plant has used up all of it's "baby fat". Perfectly normal.

# Is this the first sign of sex?
Nope. no signs yet...how much longer depends on the strain, two weeks into flowering you should have some definite signs.
some plants show preflowers in veg, some don't.

# When it's time to switch it to flower, what do I do? Is there a "dark period", and if so, for how long? Anything else I should know?
aww geeze..
You can switch to flower any time you want...the longer you wait in veg the bigger your plant(s) will get. all you have to do to induce flowering is switch your photo period to 12/12. The 12 hours of uninterupted darkness is the key.
During the darkness the plant builds up a hormone that tells it to flower once it reaches a certian level (12 hours)
Thats how they know when to flower out in the wild (days are longer in the summer, shorter twards the fall) shorter days=longer nights...

# When watering with the Fox Farm nutrients, should I use a spray bottle also and spray the leaves, or only use it for watering the soil? Should I not even spray water on the leaves?
You can spray the leaves, but you should do it when the HID lamps are off, otherwise all of the little drops act like magnifying glasses and burn little spots on your plants. You should not spray your plants directly during flowering because your buds will grow mold/mildew, esp if you have high humidity.

Holy crap ,thanks for the really quick reply  Everything you said seems correct, :D, thanks, ESPECIALLY about that spray bottle thing and the magnifying. That totally makes sense...so yeah...i wont be doing that anymore.

I believe you answered everything, except:

# Any guesses on how long I should keep these specific ones in veg?
they will double in height in flowering so you need to make sure you have room. and you need to remember that they will need bigger pots too.

Do you have a guess on how much longer these plants should veg? And if you don't have a guess for this exact instance, could you give me an average for vegging in general? I know it completely depends on circumstances, i'm not that dumb lol, but I just want to have a number in my head so I know around where I should be stopping, etc. Of course I'll mainly go by what I think. :) i just can't remember what the guides i have read said heh. i wonder why lol.

Also, do you truly think I'll need bigger pots? I mean...two of them are in 5gal (not positive, but i'm pretty sure) and then the other is 3gal i believe. I have about 6ft tall grow space, you think that'll be enough for the height aspect?

Thanks again for being so helpful

ok..so 6 ft tall grow space -18 inches for clearance your light, and -12 inches for yor soil level.
so that makes 2.5 feet of used vertical space so 6-2.5=3.5 feet or 42 inches for your plants

42/2 =21 inches
so half of the height of your total 42 inches is 21 inches so you should switch to 12/12 after your plants reach 21 inches tall in veg(from soil level).

5 gallon pots sound sufficient for this.
