this might very well be a pic up on the iron range, that might even be our friend Herbophile behind all that frost....... :dunno:

damn!!! we got some strong wind warnings for today/tomorrow, maybe some power outages due to fallen trees coming this way. I've gotta swap out the 30weight oil for synthetic if I'm gonna run my generator in this cold weather, balls.

thankfully I'm not in the Red River Valley, they'll be seeing gusts of up to 55mph from the south, it's those unusually high winds from an odd direction (like from the south) that knocks down trees that are used to being pushed primarily from W & NW. We're getting gusts up to 30mph, and again that's from the south until it shifts direction later.

20F right now w/18mph winds, it feels like 5F w/windchill factoring.

You did start your generator a couple times last summer right? lol

I had to run it twice last year in warmer weather, both times during 2 hour scheduled blackouts for line repairs. We had a longer 5 hour outage that I'd decided to leave the house during, fuck the genny, I went & chilled for a couple of hours in Perkins and then did some shopping before heading home. As I was driving north to go home I passed all the line crew trucks heading home on their way south, I knew the power was restored to my place seeing them.

oh, btw, I use a propane generator, fuel never goes bad nor gums up the carb, although I do miss having my gasoline beast of a genny on hand; it never failed me even with old fuel in it, always hi-test & always with stabilizer in it as well.

When you depend on power equipment for times of keeping quality of life going you learn how to maintain even the smallest of items you own.

You know damn well how cold weather f***ks with everything.

Arctic air straight from Siberia getting ready to unload on upper midwest, then east, then south over the next few days. Almost all of February is going to be really cold and major snowfall, especially east, mid atlantic. Good luck guys

we mostly have some single digit(+) temps coming up according to my NOAA status right now, but we'll get nightly lows way below zero, still a walk in the park for us up here.

however, when we get the combination of these 3 Canadian fronts unloading on us it spells big trouble in Minnesota & elsewhere: the Manitoba Mauler, the Alberta Clipper & Saskatchewan Screamers. -40F ~ -50F before any windchill factoring.

We had an actual -60F (Tower, MN) back in Feb of '96, @ my home it was -54F.......

You guys always get nailed hard.
You have to admit, Manitoba Mauler, Alberta Clipper & Saskatchewan Screamers would be great names for strains. And lets not forget the Chinook! lol

Fuck I'm trademarking those today. :tiphat:

we've got some wicked cold coming, next few nights gonna have actual temps -20F & colder, windchills of -40F & beyond, again only @ night...

we're promised daytime highs of 6F, 9F & 5F, good ice fishing weather :)

the roads on the ice are so clearly plowed that my Buick has no problem getting to the 2 ice castle rigs I have been granted access to.

took my old dog shears and ran them 'cross my mug last night, my face feels liberated although I usually wait 'til spring to do it, bet that beard weighed better than a pound.

It broke 60 here today and the temptation is strong but we may have more winter coming.
