Truck Battery to the trickle charger. Picked up thermo/housing combo for Truck at part house. Gonna wait to warm up little before attempting to replace as everything plastic wants to shatter. My reAr wiper snapped. Driver side mirror smoked by fed ex guy I’m sure. Snapped only one plastic hose clip earlier when I Disassembled to find I couldn’t replace the thermostat only. Did good job making no mess. Will be trickier to contain mess when I actually pull it all apart. I am virgin to this kinda cold. Gusts of 50 mph-14 real feel.

Warmed to -18 f a while ago. Put the spark-checking device on the very-carefully manipulated stiff plug wires and plugs, and voila!! Plenty of light there.

Dry carbs and maybe stuck needles/seats and floats in the dual carbs were the likely culprits, but with some returning of my core strength after being screwed up by multiple surgeries the last couple years, and some Irish tenacity and stubbornness, pulling the cord over and over, the carbs got fuel from last year's 2-stroke mix in the mostly full tank, likely contending with fuel residue related varnish in the previously mostly-dry carbs, and she fired right up, smoking us right out with too rich of a mix to the point of thinking we now need to keep a close eye on each other (some exaggeration there).

Bon fire tomorrow, provided the winds stay away, and so far they're not in our area. Coolness.

Growing indoors I am all about filters. I have a propane tank and burner, and am using the heat strips too. Fuck this cold air.

-2 to -6 around denver and less than a foot of snow, -9 in the mountains around golden on thursday, nothing close to record breaking, except maybe the rate and amount of drop in temperature, the wind gusts were worse before the storm came in

-21 f. an hour and a half ago. Mild breeze; no serious winds yet.

Need to prep food for the late lunch bonfire dish and clear snow from the spruce, aspen, and trash wood in anticipation that the winds also take Christmas off.

It's a sieved, pressed hash day, whether my throat's in agreement or not.

That, and a bottle of Italian Prosecco, currently chilling, for toasting while roasting around the bonfire.

NOAA/NWS calling for a high today of -14 f. We'll see which of us is the optimst, and which is the bullshitter, eh? I'll be playing the role of the optimist for now. "There's just got to be a pony -some place- underneath all of this horse shit!!"

Wondering what its going to be like in mid January. Forecast for high winds and heavy snow out west in the 8-14 day outlook. I'm wondering if its another arctic jet stream setting up. We are foreceast to have a couple days of mid 50's F so it may swing back in here cold again. Seems to be the pattern!

Several days of rain will be setting up here with the arrival of the warm weather. Will help bring us out of the drought, so thats good!

Looks like early March type weather here for the next ten days with about an inch of rain too. 50Fs to mid 30Fs for lows.

My heater finally cycled off today. 20F and no wind currently but we got some snow.

Never reached -14 f. yesterday; thermometer sat at -20 f for the duration of the visit.

-9 f this morning on our front porch, with a fresh 1" of more fine particulate snow to be moved before it's turned into hard-pack.. In town, the airport (NOAA/NWS) is at -2 f., and UAF is at -1 f.

Moderately decent weather and temps forecast for the week, all slightly below 0 f. Though for now, they're calling for +10 f. for New Year's Day. We'll see. Anything more than 24-hours out at this point is a Ouija Board production.

didn't quite get up to freezing today, high 20s i think. got three sinks, two toilets, and 4 water spigots. got one sink that won't drain. every married man here knows which one it is, too. the one in the bathroom where my wife gets dressed & does the make-up deal. not sure if roof vent is clogged/frozen or what. got vinegar, baking soda, and boiling water poured into it at moment... if it's (vent) just frozen, tomorrow should solve it, upper 40s.

22F with little wind, downright warm this afternoon! There may be tree roots in your waste water drain, could use a rotorooter to clean out your line and put in a cup of copper sulfate into your cleanout opening every 2-4 weeks. Hope you get it figured out!

Holding at -9 f. still.

Thankfully, a La Nina winter has a whole 'nother meaning here now than it did 40+ years ago.

I have a long clay tile for the main drain. About 300 foot long. Twice I've hired rotorooter out with their drain cam. For a ~$100 you can really see the problem and map out the drain in the yard if need be.

-5 f. this A.M. at 7:30.

S'posed to be similarly mild through the week, though they have us above 0 for at least 2 days' highs, but have pushed back the +10 f. initially forecast for Sunday/New Year's Day, to Monday, the day after. And as stated earlier, anything that far out is apt to be nearly total BS anyway.

Fireworks in town at the University's West Ridge New Year's Eve, a tradition typically involving a pretty impressive show, so the mild weather, what ever the temp, will make sitting in a camp chair that much more comfortable.

Glad to hear you guys will be able to celebrate the new year without it being too cold! Seems kind of cold, but I guess its not if you are used to subzero temperatures all winter!

51 F with a 33 mph wind at 6:55 AM out west of town at the garden!

58F here! Just a week ago we were getting ready to be hit with an arctic jet stream.

I'm feeding black oil sunflowers too along with whole corn. Thankful to be able to get them by the 50 lb bag at the local Orchard Country Store. :smoke:

Got a couple squirrels with skin issues where they have a patch of fur missing. They made it through the cold like that! Saw a dead red finch by the creek today, not sure what the cause of death was, but the freeze probably had something to do with it. Saw a dead robin last year during the cold spell.

-5 f. this AM about 7:15 or so.

S'posed to rise to about +3 to +5 f. today, but we've been getting robbed of our thermal inversion lately. I keep threatening to file for a reduction on our property taxes for that, but I'm not sure they'll listen.

"I used to have a thermal inversion in the Winter, and now I don't. I'd like a refund, please."
