Cool! We need rain, some areas in this region are in moderate drought still.

May want to open your car door before it freezes shut too bad. Get out there and scrape it down to cut down on the ice before it all freezes up. Sometimes when it flash freezes after rain I can not get my truck door open, it takes a while and a lot of force.
Hot water poured on the door openings?

Theres a lot of drifting snow, it may be an illusion. Things like condensation and precipitation happen on larger scales from what I understand. Definitely some blowing snow today 40 mph gust constant.

- 8F and -35 windchill at 10 am

Need to look and see if we broke a record.

Winter storm in US and Canada causes power outages for over a million
More than one million people are without power in several states as a powerful Arctic winter storm sweeps through the US and Canada.
The storm has brought damaging winds and freezing temperatures that can quickly lead to frostbite.
Much of Canada and the US are under winter weather alerts that stretch from coast-to-coast and as far south as the US-Mexico border.
Major airports have cancelled thousands of flights as the storm intensifies.

As of Friday morning, more than 1,130,000 people from Texas to Maine were left in the dark, as the intense winds brought damage to power lines across the eastern US.
Power outages have also been reported in Canada, affecting 260,000 people in the provinces of Quebec and Ontario.

The US National Weather Service said that over 200 million people - or roughly 60% of the US population - are under some form of winter weather advisory.
Much of Canada, from British Columbia to Newfoundland, is also under extreme cold and winter storm warnings.
Several school boards in Ontario, including Toronto, have cancelled classes. The airline WestJet has also cancelled flights on Friday due to "prolonged and extreme weather events" across Canada.
This storm is set to bring the iciest Christmas in decades, say forecasters, even affecting the sunshine state of Florida.
The National Weather Service (NWS) said temperatures of -50F (-45C) and -70F were possible by the end of this week in some parts of the country.
They warned that even in major metro areas, like the city of Des Moines, Iowa, frostbite will be a major danger.

I had to use 2x4s to prop the attached garage door against the frame. It's facing west and is 9'x7' flat surface pushing in. Still leaking along the sides a bit and even between the panels with the gusting. I need to rig up a big H brace to use during these trying times like this. It's the major air leak of the house.

You can get seals for the outside and I think that would be good enough. I had to push down on one side of my garage door, it wasn't seated against the ground. I have a furnace in my garage so it keeps it nice and warm in there!

Just went out on a drive at the park, the blowing snow is fun to watch. I was chasing it with the truck.

5pm -2F 39 mph , windchill -27 F

got virtually no snow, but plenty of cold. then, it got colder... now it's damned cold, for here anyway. wind will cut you in half...i like my fireplace! :good: we've not had the power go out but 3 times, and that was from the planned rolling blackout TVA ran earlier.

Thats a good description! I wish I had a fireplace. I could have one installed. My town is is a suburb and headquarters to a power company and they get power restored pretty quick usually. Got to keep that heater going today! It helped to heat the house a little baking the roast for 12 hours.

I got seals and they are new but at 0F they are stiff and withdrawn. And the wind pushes against the door, the roller axles are pitched in.

I was looking at this for maybe summer upgrade. About $220.

Thanks for sharing that, I bookmarked it. I always have crickets in my garage and I see light around the edge to. Looks like a great design to keep the garage warm.

Today. Some sort of station error on the wind there for that spike to 0.

We're at -17 f. or so at the moment, and the forecast has improved a little bit for Christmas Eve day and Christmas Day; previously had us enduring colder weather.

We'll be trying to start the 2-stroke snowmobile tonight, in order for me to put in a packed track down into the woods at the lower property, so I can take my freighter snowmobile there tomorrow with a sled behind it on a harder track, and retrieve spruce wood and spruce poles for the bon fire for Christmas Day, when my older son comes out for an outdoor, roasty-toasty bon fire meal of wild-caught U-15 sea scallops and wild-caught U-15 Patagonia shrimp in a cheese sauce with veggies over chick pea pasta rotini.
