Capitalism is an economic system where private businesses own and control production factors. A free market capitalist economy, also known as laissez-faire capitalism, is a type of capitalist economy where the government has little to no involvement in regulating the marketplace. In a free market, the forces of supply and demand regulate production, labor, and prices, and companies sell goods and services at the highest prices consumers are willing to pay.”
"In a free market, the forces of supply and demand regulate production, labor, and prices, and companies sell goods and services at the highest prices consumers are willing to pay.”

and this is precisely why presidents have little control over inflation. for example, the president in a free market, democratic economy, cannot just tell the corporations to make less profit.

i'm sure the ceo's of the supermarket chains are playing golf together! as george carlin said, they quietly understand what's good for them. they don't need an overt conspiracy.

inflation is permanent, it has always been there. it's the rate of inflation that matters. 2% is the target rate.

people claiming they paid lower prices for goods and services in the past are correct but the reality is that you will never see those prices again just because of inflation. the current inflationary spiral we've been suffering through began in the trump admin during covid and both turmp and biden have been struggling to bring it down.

the reason people are suffering is not because of inflation but because their wages have not risen at a pace to keep up with inflation.

um... I'm still waiting for the fuel surcharges to be rolled back on every single item right down to candy bars that went up overnight during the Bush administration and never came down once the gas prices receded.

you know... under republicans

Trump kicked off the inflation when he injected trillions into the money supply. After that it’s price fixing by corporations. Neither of those causes are free market capitalism.

yes, and the trillions came from where? the pockets of the taxpayers, in the form of a 50% increase in the public debt. he raised the national debt from 14 trillion to 21 trillion in just 4 years.

good one! my wife works for a large non-profit medical services organization. because they are non-profit they have excellent employee benefits. one of them is an automatic 3% annual increase in pay to help offset the effects of inflation.

how many greedy corporations offer that to their rank and file employees?
Mine does. But it hasn't helped when inflation has been outpacing that pay raise every year by 2-3%.

how could anyone think that the mind of this mentally disorganized, chaotic mess of a man would be a good choice for president?

the cars produced by germany after ww2 were not part of any hitlerite or nazi effort. the car became popular internationally because dr ferdinand porsche designed a very reliable, inexpensive car. a good design for the times. and millions were produced post war.

"Volkswagen produced 21,529,464 Type 1, or Volkswagen Beetle, models globally over 65 years, from 1949–2003. The final model was built in Puebla, Mexico on July 30, 2003. To mark the occasion, Volkswagen sold 3,000 of the Beetles as "Última Edición" (Final Edition).

The Beetle's production run is the longest of any single generation of car, and its total production is the highest of any car on a single platform. The Beetle has been featured in many movies, and has been a symbol of the Summer of Love, a propaganda tool for fascism, and a champion of the hot-rodding community."

so, your logic is that all the owners of these 21,529,464 vehicles are fascist? really?
Loved the Herbie movies as a kid, my favourite was “Herbie takes on the third reich.”

If our tax dollars were not used to:

benefit corporations
have the biggest military
exploit other nations
provide aid to other nations
bail out corporations when they fail

we could:

feed the hungry
provide healthcare to all
provide quality education (including secondary)
house all the homeless
address mental health properly
address drug addiction properly
invest in technology to advance alternative energy sources

Peace and prosperity it too difficult, I suppose. Someone argue why advancing the "we could" column would not make America great for once.

none of this will be handed over freely nor will it happen by voting.

the cost of real change is paid in blood.

maybe change can be effected by patient and logical education over time instead of sudden change requiring bloodshed? look at the quality of the converts either way. by using education and logic you get long term convertees that will continue the philosophical change. by using violence and forcing people to convert you create long-term resentment and short term convertees. people don't like being forced!

may i submit to you that the people espousing violence are the ones who can't win a debate with logic.

the weekend, child labor laws, 8 hour workday, countless labor, social, and cultural advances have come at the cost of human lives and bloodshed. i don't care about winning debates or converting people. if you are against providing health care to all people or housing all people you are simply a bad human being.
