Final pictures of 2007 season!

Final pictures of 2007 season!

Well, its time to wrap up the grow journal, this grow started on Feb 14th, 2007 , and its been a long road since. Like usual, I learned all kinds of new things, through trial and error.

As I have said, this was the worst season for mold I have had yet, I can't say I remember having so much dark, wet weather in Sept/Oct before. My first signs of mold started 2 weeks before normal, and being the stubborn grower I am, I tried to let the crop go as long as possible despite the mold.

I would have been better off harvesting a week or two early, I may have avoided the losses I did get, and the pain in the ass it is to find and cut all the mold out. Live and learn......

Final HM#3 pics, just prior to harvest, October 11-

The day I decided to start wholesale cutting of the crop was when I entered the plot and found many of the larger plants bent over or broken from the weight of rain water in their buds, and also quite a few mold spots.

One of the more colorfull OR95s this year-

My star plant, by this time i had harvested about 2 oz already-

This plant is also a favorite of mine, she has a Grapefruit flavor and smell that is pleasent. The smoke is not as stony as some of the OR95s, but enjoyable none the less. I will grow it next year.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

This year will be the last year I plant my grows in such a fashion that I have to make trips to water twice a week. I enjoy doing it, but when I have several plots planted as far out as I like to plant it doesn't leave much time to spend with freinds and family, so I will be seriously putting a effort into natural or auto-matic irrigation next season.

The search helicopters changed up on me this year, in the past they have mostly just searched the areas around homes, barns, and vegetable gardens, near where people live.
This year they mostly concentrated on seaching valleys, and the uninhabited countryside, they actually spent more time looking in the woods and hills.
This is due to the increasing frequency of Mexican cartel grows, huge plantations of 1000-10,000 plants. They have more funding from the feds to search for these grows, and now the copters look everywhere. But I escaped due to my small plots hidden in niches in the woods.

Outdoor drying
I decided this year to try hanging some of my plants outdoors, as Julian suggested in his thread. I brought them inside and let them drip dry the rain from their buds for a day or two and then they were hung in a place outdoors where the rain could not fall on them.

Two weeks went by, and the plants were still moist and limp, after checking closer I found new mold growing, not Bud rot type mold though. This was more like the mold that grows on newspaper that sat out in the rain for several weeks when the paper boy missed his mark. Four nice plants are now beyond my tolerence for mold and will used for oil down the road. Shit, I knew better!!

I don't doubt that this method works in places with lower humidity and warmer temps in the harvest season, but it is definatly something I would advise growers to experiment with for themselves before commiting to much bud to it, unless you like to smoke mold.

Anyways, thanks to all who stopped by, you are the reason I am here!

hey bc , shame to hear u lost some herb to the dreaded mould , i find when i have to pick herb after rain ,, i will always use the gas element to get the excess water off them .. once they are hanging in the tent ,, a few hours with the gas stove on really helps ..
as long as it s done right ,, u cant really tell they have been picked in the rain ...
if not u will end up with surface mould almost everytime ,, its a bugger ...

Another great year BC! Have always loved the colors the OR95's put out. But I had also lost close to a 1/2 lb doing the outdoor dry this year I noticed the fuzzy mold and moved them indoors quickley but the mold spread fast and I lost all of the outdoor dry bud. Live and learn I guess. I still came out with plenty to last me till next harvest and that's all that matters too me. Can't wait to watch next years run.

Sorry to hear about the mold issues. I have dried outside a few years and in the end some of it gets mold. This year I dried outside in a non-heated structure. Much like a tent it was just some shelter from any rain but not humidity or temperature changes. I only had one small group of bud show any mold. It was because I did not have the buds separated properly.
I believe it is possible to dry outside but think some type of shelter(tent, etc) is needed. I am not convinced (through experience) that you can dry a couple of elbows out side with no problems. I know it can be done but the weather must be right and I do not like taking that type of chance. 5 months of baby-sitting just to have all your work go to mold because the weatherman was wrong. I mean they are never wrong, right?

BC your scientific approach to documenting your grow and discovering new watering techniques has always made your posts very informative reading, so I offer congratulations for pulling off another year of ultra-stealth growing with zero discoveries in the face of spreading swarms of choppers, and I sure do look forward to following your future adventures in 'erbland.

PS. I think even the most pacifist of our ICMag readers will approve of the low key visibility of that side-arm in your self portrait. It comes accross as just another piece of mandatory gear in bear and cougar country, and certainly won't raise any eyebrows as did the picture posted by that guy who posed beside his grow in a John Wayne stance with his finger on the trigger of a Remmington 870 pump.

Happy Hollidays Dude, and may the battle of the mold be won next season.

Gorgeous!

I guess we live and we learn. Thankfully, the rest of us will never wonder about that advice and consider using it again. Hopefully we get to see some more shots of those beauties while you enjoy them ;-)

*lifts bong in air*

To a good season, and may there be many more!

Don't get me wrong guys, the mold left me plenty of bud, it was a pretty good year for me, I'm happy and optimistic for next year!

Deft-Yeah, she is pretty and I like the smell. They are very vigorous plants.

wallyduck, Guyute54, hamstring, EasyBakeIndica - Yeah, these 4 plants came inside for a couple of days, and were hung in a 80F room before they were moved, there was no rain water left in them, they were actually starting to dry.
The problem is I had a average humidity close to 80% and temps that ranged between 40-55F most of October, the air was just too wet to absorb the moisture quick enough.

Swamp Thang- Thank you very much! But I think you must be mistaking my fanny pack/camera case for a gun??

I need to get my eyes tested BC. A hip holster just seemed like it would be part of standard attire for the wilderness you roam, so I saw one in the picture where there wasn't one.

Good thing I never try anything more potent than weed, or I'd be fending off imaginary bats like Hunter S. Thomson.

caligreen- I'm not exactly sure what the whole crop weighs, I avoid having scales around for legal reasons, but I am sure there is more than a few Oz more than I need all together.
I'll try ang get a few of them weighed up a little down the road, for the sake of science.

Captain Skunk- Hey man! Good to see you, I hope you had/have a happy holidays too!

Cheers to another happy season. There were a lot of trials and tribulations played out in our outdoor season this year but it's nice to see someone with some happy results. I would give you +rep but I don't have enough posts here yet :joint:

On the outdoor drying......... I just couldn't see that working here....... ever. But you gotta try. When someone says its possible you have to at least try it to find out that it doesn't apply, so not a huge loss..... but I appreciate that you took the time and effort.

Anyways, great diary and happy sampling.... if I had my way I would be in the hills and trenches not the halls and garages. :muahaha:

:respect:

All ok with that cold weather out there? Feel sorry for you guys. Southern New England is having some excellent weather right now. I wish it on you guys as well.

Your climate sounds very similar to mine out here, what with the temps and the lack of rain. I'm gonna watch your 08 season closely to hopefully pick up more pointers along the way. As if I haven't gotten enough info from you already!
