jaxx - i keep my ballast in an electrical junction box mounted to the back of my cabinet. the cab back is wood and while the ballast does get too hot to touch there isn't any danger of ignition.

rasta - i use the general hydro floranova nutrients which are organic based plus floraliscous and my buds taste as good as any organic soil grown ones

I've been using the three-part BC Grow/Bloom/Boost nutrients in my DWC's for a good number of years now with great results. And, just a quart of each has lasted a decent amount of time. I'm not all that concerned with regards to the Organic/Non-Organic debate. While organics are easier on the plant and harder to really screw up, the fact of the matter is that any plant can only absorb the salts it needs in one form. If you present both macro and micro requirements to them organically, it must first go through a biological break-down process before they can avail themselves of them. Non-organics are already in this state. Also not all things organic are good for you, remember arsinic is 100% organic as are many other deadly substances. I think that the ture advantage to organics is not in growing, but in the fact that their production doesn't destroy the earth. Of course all of this is JMHO based on reading, and I still tend to choose organic veggies when shopping.

Last note: For ease of operation and storage, I will be discontinuing my use of the BC nutes and moving to a one-part micro-powdered alternative.

Howdy Folks.

Rasta... It's an organic semi soilless moonshine mix. I'm thinkin of switching to DWC as well. Having to water everyday with soil kinda sucks. DWC you can leave for a week if you are comfortable with everything else in your grow. (Timers, fans, bubblers, bla bla)

My Nutrients are Mother Earth Super Tea, BioBizz Grow and Bloom, Floralicious Plus and Grotek Bud Fuel. All certified organic.

I agree all things organic are not always good for you. Most Herbs are a poison for instance. Yes even Parsley. It's a matter of how much poison our body can naturaly consume of it. When herbs are used as a medicine it's using the poison in a good way.

Part of the reason I use organic is also because of the production process as well.

and lets be honest...there is a mental stigma that goes with organic isn't there? being able to say...nothing chemical went into this...add that to ...this bud has never touched a plastic baggie, only a glass jar and then add that to...this bud has been in this jar for 6 months....mmmmmmmm

that said...I'll be switching to DWC at some point soon....this dog needs a road trip.

Peace 150 watters

Ahh the old organic vs chem debate. I don't think there is any difference if the weed is grown well. I'm running some quality AN Sensi Bloom nutes this grow and just taste tested some popcorn buds. They are comparable to some underflushed buds I grew a while back. I'm gonna have some nice shit once they are done and flushed properly. I really like the Sensi products, they are still salt based but in the right proportion.

rasta - Its amazing how well these plants can grow themselves with no help from us. Hell, they've been doing it for thousands of years outdoors. In fact, they really need little attention and very little food. We as growers tend to overthink everything we do with them and overfeed them as well. Why? Because we want to get every last gram of bud development that we possibly can. We are forcing them into an unnatural state. Untill any system is dialed in and the grower knows just what to expect from specific nutrients and other system parameters, the best thing he or she can do is to take their time and make changes in "baby steps". This is even more important when it come to feeding. They can survive very well with just a drop of food. In fact, if you use a premade potting soil like Scotts, Peters, or Miracle Grow, there is enough food in the soil from the manufacturer to last for a couple of months. I don't know about you, but I grew up in a home with lots of house plants around. Every week, my Mom would walk around with a watering can, and give them a drink of plain water right from the kitchen sink. Maybe twice a year she would throw a bit of fertilizer in the water. As I recall, none of her plants ever died or looked sickly. In fact, the Snake plant I have in my home was taken from one that was originally her mother's. Hard to believe, but its easily 60 years old. I know I'm a bit long-winded here, but all I'm trying to say is: Go Slow, Little Changes, Don't Overfeed, and Don't spend a bunch of money on nutes and additives. The less expensive ones will do fine till you have a good feel for things.

Of course, all of this is JMHO. Wishing you only the best! PD

I’ve gone the Mills Pride route with a 430 HPS but ended up with heat issues and a hefty electrical bill each month. Electric bill with 430watt (increased ventilation, supplemental lighting) was on average $120/month. With the 150 the bill never goes beyond $55-65/month (entire electric bill BTW). I did a tent for a while as well but it lacked stealth. I got tired of the “what’s that big black thing in the corner?” I got hooked on OG and in particular the 150 club. I was amazed at what guys were pulling with such a small light and decided to give it a go. I see it in Mighty Johns, Sugar Bears and many others here as well. Granted, the 430 produced more bud but I’m really in this for personal use and to be very honest, the 150 supplies more than I can possibly smoke and I smoke almost every day.
