Holdin you got some beautiful girls there. dont worry bro, just keep up the good work. if you gotta pull the tallest, do it sooner then later next time i recommend scrog. best way to do it i tihnk. hey by the way i got a 150 hps, doing lowryders. one of my LR has only 3 leaves!!!` is she one those things...mutants, lol sorry stoned....
Thanks bro. Like I said I really wish I'd at least LST'd/Topped all three of them. I'd been very busy with work and pretty much just "let them grow." Besides one of them, which was topped and slightly LST'd, but I ended up just letting that one go to try to maintain an even canopy. I really think that the lack of light is what caused them to stretch so much. They were all about 18 inches when flowered, and I think after they stretched about 4-5 inches they were just stretching for more and more light. Are AK's notorious for stretching? Like I said I've got 2 sativa phenos, that have stretched LESS than the indicia pheno.

Even if I have to pull the tall indica pheno, I've got clones of all three plants rooting right now that I'm going to throw into flowering after a short veg. It'll be my first run with clones. Stoked.

Also I'm really hesitant to pull the indica pheno because she's got some pink-ish purple on the edge and underside of the leaves. But, we'll see what happens.

Do you think maybe I should just trim some undergrowth and go for the colas? Or maybe I could just tie the tall bitch down. But then I wouldn't have that even canopy. Or I could tie them all down. I don't know.

coard boardts - that cabinet is awesome looking.
weed4life - I'm thinking of doing a lowryder run under my 150 in my u-2 cabinet - I think the 3 leaf one is called a trifolate.

holdin - looking good - If i was you I'd go for a supersimple scrog - very easy cheap and in one step things will be back under control - it may seem a little harsh at first but you're plants will recover even if the stem kinks a little - scrog 'em now in another few weeks it will be too late. IMO scrog is easier then tieing down cause you just push the screen down and all the shoots get held down.

well here's my new c-25 cabinet - got the 150 in there right now but will put a 400 in there soon and the 150 will go back to the old cabinet for veg and preflower and maybe a run of lowryder.

the nigerian nightmare harvest ...
thought i should share with you a pic of my (first) harvest . i dont have a practiced eye for this but i am guessing at roughly 1 oz. ? plus i have at least 1/8 more already in jars. in spite of all the mistakes i made this ONE plant still gave me all this . i am really very pleased, because with more practice and knowledge i can easily see getting 2oz. per plant out of my set-up, probably even more.
my equipment and supply purchases totalled about $350.00 , a little more than the price of an ounce, so my gear is almost paid for; future grows will cost next to nothing .
good times .

That looks like over a zone, unless its extremely airy. I'd say at least a zone and a half, being moderately airy.

sugabear- I've also been thinking about the scrog. I have a screen already built but I'd have to figure out a quick and cheap way to mount the bitch. I'm broke as fuck right now otherwise I'd just buy a larger light. I actually merked off one of the bitches earlier... the tall lanky indica. Took 6 good clones off of her. 2 clones of the plant are almost rooted. Then 2 of each of the other plants. When I get paid... more light! More plants, more light, more herb.

Does anyone know the easiest way to mount a screen of this porportion? I was thinking hanging it, I don't see another easy way.

green grow - congradulations brother that looks like more than an ounce to me too - as you said the setup is now mostly paid for and from here on out it's all sticky gravy!

holdin'

I was suggesting you go for the super simple scrog technique - metal coat hangers and twistie ties. I just went looking for a link and can't find one - which is so hard for me to believe - oh well next time I sit down and make one I'll take some pictures and do a DIY. so here's the deal

take a metal coat hanger (like the kind from the drycleaner) form it into a square and cut the hook off.
then use twistie tie material or wire or whatever you used to make the one you have in the picture and do 4 going across one way and then another four the other way weaved through the first four
then take four skewers, dowels, chopsticks, what have you and some duct tape - attach these to the corners of your square coathanger screen and then tape them to the side of the planters. I use metal skewers as they have a nice loop at the end, but they cost $1.98 for four and you need four for each planter.

So the main advantage to the super simple scrog method is that the screens are modular and attached to the planters - this way you can move your plants around - take them out for watering, pruning, inspecting, what not.

If you go with one big screen for the cabinet then you are stuck now you have to figure out some way to get underneath and water the plants - I'm not saying it can't be done - it's just a big pain in the ass. I've seen people who do a single big screen and they end up having to make a long (width of the screen) spouted water jug to get water to the back plants.

Here's a few pictures from my grows of super simple scrog screens to give you an idea what they look like. I'll be posting the DIY on monday or tuesday or something when I make the screens.

p.s. - if you did decide to use that screen you have I would use shelf brackets to mount it.

God, I just love it when a plan comes together.

Sug, nice looking job on the C-25. Two quick questions....First, looking at the picture I can't seem to follow the air flow from the growing chamber thru the fan and scrubber. Just how have you got it hooked up? And second, are you planning to paint the rear panel or cover it with reflective material?

Holdin, at this point I don't see too much to trim off. I'm of a mind to say let them go and see what you get. While I'm no SCROG or LST expert, I think they may already be a bit too developed to start the process now. Keep in mind that the first few grows are really a learning expreience.

green grow, It gives a whole new meaning to "having your plate full". Congrats on a nice first harvest. I would have been proud if my first attempt looked that nice. If you're like most of us, I'm guessing that you got as much pleasure from watching and helping them grow as you will from the finished product. I see clean buds, I hope you are you also saving your trim for either hash or butter/olive oil production.

pipedream, I cut a hole in the shelf with a 4" hole saw the ducting from the scrubber goes to a flange that is mounted over the hole. so the air flow is through the four 2" intakes down the center of the floor of the cabinet, through the scrubber, through the duct, through the flange and 4" diameter hole in the shelf, into the upper utility chamber, into the intake of the blower, and out a 4" diameter hole in the back of the cabinet. I've got weather stripping or caulk around all of the joints and the shelf to keep the air from short cutting around the scrubber. I may switch the scrubber to be on the back with the blower pushing through it if I find that I want the extra room in the grow chamber.

I also just recieved a three pack of those 4" diameter darkroom louver vents that someone posted a link to on page 53 that will be going in shortly. right now with the 265cfm dayton blowing out the back I need both hands to pull the doors open and a foot bracing against the bottom of the cabinet because the suction is sooo strong so more intakes are in order.

Green~ your plate looks good enough to eat....remember always clean your plate befor leaving the table!
suga~ how about putting a mini scrubber attaching it to the dayton so as it pulls the air from the big chamber to the small chamber where your fan is(keepin it all inside the box). I did one but its on the outside of my box.

trikomeking - I considered ducting the scrubber to the fan but there wasn't room. the one I have is a professional made one I purchased at the hydro store and it works awesome going on a year now. If I do anything I'll attach it to the back.

Lets get started...

Lets get started...

Hey everyone
I stumbled across the 150w HPS Club the other day and it was totally cool to find a whole group of people growing with this beast of a lamp. I have seen some really neat pictures from you guys and I appreciate all the tips and triks you guys have come up with. Im a newbie grower and I hope to start my second crop of all time soon (waiting on Northernberry seeds from Peakseeds.com - 30$!). I have recently thrown together a grow compartment in my closet using a 6X8 tarp, thumbtacks, and good old duct tape (Ill post some pics as soon as everything is setup with lights and ventilation. I have included some pics here of my modded security 150w, and pics of my first bud. Thats all for now, happy growing! :abduct:

I finally got the chance to take a few pics of my current grow. I have 3 sour deisel on their 2nd week of flower. These were flowered at 3weeks and not my usual 4 (just tryin new things with this grow).
I decided to take the pepsi challenge with northern lights vs. sweet tooth. On the veg side there are 3 sour des 3 weeks, 2 nl, and 2 sweet tooth both are at 2 weeks. The sweet tooth is currently ahead of the nl. pics will up soon!

For an update on my happenings...

I gave the plants a good trimming... got rid of some useless growth on the bottom. I've decided I'm just going to let these plants go. Probably get some CFL for some added side lighting. I've decided I'm going to stay with the 150w for a while, at least until I move out and get a place where I can cut holes for some proper ventilation. Fucking townhouses.

It's alright if I don't yeild huge on this grow. 2 ounces be great. Last grow I pulled 2 zones off of one plant, with some bagseed. When it comes to the AK's yeild in general I've heard people go both ways. But I've got 6 clones rooting as we speak, and 7 more freshly cut. Definitely have some fun with them in the coming time.

Here they are... these pictures are actually before the trim. Kinda lazy right now. Budssssss are forming. Woo.

and....

"will stand for fresh cuts"

howdy y'all - datfire - good to see you, it's been a while - yeah I was thinking of a 250 but the 400 was only $2 more so I went for it. got it from a place called htgsupply and they were just down right awesome. I ordered the htgsupply special ballast and they ran out so they sent me an agrostar ballast instead (about $30 more) at no cost to me. The order was delayed due to a glitch in their system and they sent me an extra bulb to make up for it. so check them out, a 250 will run just over $100 complete with remote ballast, bulb, socket and cord set, and a bat wing reflector. I priced out the individual parts and really couldn't do much better building it myself.

anyways the 150 still lives on in my veg cabinet.

I did end up moving the filter to the back of the cabinet as I found I needed more holes in the shelf to keep air flowing freely.

take care and good growing all - everythings looking good for everyone.

So I haven't talked about my grow in a while, the plant that had the crutch didn't make it, sadly. It's been about two weeks from seed for them now, and they're looking alright. I've definitely got one that's more sativa, and one that's more indica. (I'm growing bagseed)

The sativa one looks alright, no major problems. The more indica one is looking a little rough. The leaves are yellowing very slightly around the edges. Both of the plants have a droop in their leaves, it looks like a mix between underwatering and overwatering, but they look the same a few hours after I water as they do a few days after I water, so I'm not sure what it is. My camera is on loan to a friend til next Sunday, so I won't have any pictures for about 10 days. I think I'll give them two more weeks and then flip on the HPS and go 12/12.
